Welcome to the Wills Point Department of College and Career Readiness
The mission of Wills Point ISD is to provide educational excellence for all students, cultivating college, career and workforce readiness, while providing students with choices for a meaningful and successful life. The WPISD College and Career Readiness Students and Parent Roadmap provides a timeline of events and activities beginning with the 5th grade that WPISD offers to students and parents in preparation for life after high school. Students and parents will utilize the guide to identify resources to assist in planning and tracking academic, college, and career pathways. Its our goal at WPISD to collaborate with students and parents in the development of an individualized academic and career plan that will ensure an effective educational experience aligned with personal goals and interests to prepare students for success. . The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the united States It is currently administered by ACT, a nonprofit organzation of the sme name. The ACT test coves four academic skill areas; English, mathematics, reading, and scienfitc reasoning. It also offers an optional direct wrtiing test. The ACT test is designed for the 10th, 11th, and /or12th grade levels to provide schools and siticst with the data necssary to position students for succes after high school
‘ARD’ is an acronym for Admission Review and Deismissal An Ard meeting is a meeting of a group of people who help to determine whether a student is eleigble for special education and develops the individual education program (IEP) for eligble students
Career and Technical Education programs after a seuqence of courses that provides students with coherent and rigorous content CTE content is aligned with challengng academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in current or emerging professions
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a farm completed by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eleigility for student financial aid Students must apply for the FAFSA every academic year for as long as they are enrolled in a college or university Applicants must be citizens of the united states or elgible non- U S citizens , hold a valid social security number and have a high school diploma or equivalent Algonsidee federal grants, loans, and work study aid, the FAFSA is also used to determine eleigibity for state and inistutial scholarhips
Honors classes offer the same curriculum as regular classes but are tailored for high achieving students- covering additional topics or some topics in greater depth
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic occupational succes in the military

Endorsements consist of a related series of courses that are grouped together by interst or skills et They provide students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area Students must select an endosrsement in the ninth grade There are 5 areas students can choose from: Arts and Humanaities, Business and Industry, Multidisciplinary studies, Purlbic Service, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).


National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), is an organization in the United State that administers intercollegiate athletics The NCAA functions as a general legislative and administrative authority for men’s and women's intercollegiate athletics It formulates and enforces the rules of play for various sports and the eligibility criteria for athletes. Both college-bound and continuing student athletes must meet academic standards to participate in NCAA sports. While Division I and Division II schools slightly differ in their minimum standards both require incoming students to complete at least 16 core course in high school and earn a qualifying SAT or ACT test score. These academic requirements include courses in English, math, natural or physical sciences and social sciences.
The PSAT is the first exam in the College Board’s “ SAT Suite of Assessments” and its offered to 8th and 9th graders The purpose of the PSAT 8/9 is to establish a starting point in terms of college and career readiness as students transition to high school.
The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that 10th and 11th graders take in October Like the SAT, it measures the knowledge and skills in reading, writing, and math students learn in the classroom -the same knowledge and skills students need to succeed in college and career. By taking the PSAT/NMSQT as a junior, student may meet the requirements to enter the Nation merit Scholarship program , an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Additionally, the STA, PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 connect students to another $300 million in college scholarships for students across major demographics.
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment ( TSIA or TSIA 2) is the state-mandated placement test (Texas Education Code 51 3062 that Texas public institutions must use to determine a students readiness for college-level courses The results of the assessment, in conjunction with students academic background goals, and interests are used by academic advisors to demine course selection and where students will be most successful
The SAT is an entrance exam use by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions The SAT is a multiple-choice test created and administered by the college Board. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school students readiness for college and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside thigh school GPA, thee classes taken in high school, letters of recommendations from teachers or mentors extracurricular activities, admissions interviews and personal essays
Texas Application for State Financial Aid( TASFA) is used to collect information to help determine eligibility for state financial aid programs that are administered by institutions of higher education in the state of Texas. TASFA is for students who are ineligible for federal aid through FAFSA who are Texas residents, and went to high school for at least three years in the state. These include, but are not limited to , foreign nationals, legal permanent residents, and eligible non citizens. You can only apply for either FAFSA or TASFA not both.
