Greg Smith’s Small Town SEO Business Guide Introduction In the online world of Search Engine Optimization, everyone is hypothetically looking at SEO from the same perspective.

No one is thinking of ways to implement SEO, in ways that’re unique and outside the box.

In ways that will help you derive an income, to help you support your family.

The 2014 SEO industry is similar to a flock of sheep, following one leader, that being Google.

It’s sad that we don’t have more intelligent Search Optimization experts, within the SEO industry, but the truth is, we don’t.

Everyone is copying everyone else.

No one is unique and that’s why everyone struggles to attract a massive size following.

I’m Referring To The Big SEO Guru’s Too. That’s right, you read it correctly, they’re each doing nothing more than copying one another and they’re each getting the same results.

Google+ is a great example to watch as the big SEO guru’s, all flock together as a clique.

Like a herd of animals, all following one another.

Where’s The Beef?

In the summer of 2004 there was a young intern, a young motivated fella, who’s really similar to a lot of dedicated online marketers, people just like you and I.

His name was Jeremy Stoppleman.

I would like to tell you a quick story about this Jeremy character, and how he got started working online.

I Believe His Story Might Inspire You. Jeremy had an idea that he wanted to create a unique, local business that was great enough to capture word­of­mouth.

He knew that any business great enough to capture word­of­mouth, had no other option but to succeed.

Jeremy Was Destined To Succeed.

He knew that starting out LOCALLY was in his best interest, because starting out LOCALLY isn’t as competitive and offered him a much better chance at becoming someone.

He knew he might just have a chance, if he remained local.

But first things first, he didn’t yet own a domain name or a website.

How Did Jeremy Get Started Online?

Jeremy had the idea to create a similar directory, something similar to Yellow Pages.

Jeremy was more intrigued by Local businesses who needed local visibility, and reviews from local consumers. Jeremy was dedicated to what he wanted and was driven to achieve his goals, one way or the other.

Jeremy and his friends and his family all pulled together and created an email reviews system, one that they could all use together.

They used it among themselves. They kept it among their own little group.

Eventually discovering that no one really needed another online directory, considering that Yellow Pageswas already available.

It Didn’t Take A Genius To Figure That Out! That is, until Jeremy discovered how much in demand local businesses required local consumer reviews, and .Jeremy purchased a domain name, Something Pretty Similar To Yellow Pages, Jeremy’s new domain was something along the lines of Yelp.Com

Here’s What Happened Next Jeremy dug in deep, all four tires and begin his climb up the mountain.

He built his site and got everything all setup, just like you do, when you’re building a new site.

Yelp Started To Gain Some Traction In His LOCAL Town First, Eventually Spreading Into Other Nearby, Local Towns.

People started becoming excited about seeing local reviews, about local businesses.

Less Than One Year Later, Jeremy’s Site Started To EXPLODE In Popularity.

Jeremy started slowly growing that audience, across different towns.

Guess What Hapened Next?

Their small site started to grow nation wide.

Investors Started Pouring Millions Into This Small Directory Site.

Google made Yelp an offer to buy their site for 500 million dollars.

He Kept At It, The First Year, The Site Dragged Ass, Just Like Any Other Site, In Its First Year Online.

Soon after this offer was made, Jeremy received a phone call from another tech CEO, who told him to Stay Independent And Do Not Sell Out To Google! ­Who was the CEO who told him to turn down the offer?

Steve Jobs — The Former CEO Of Apple.

And so, Jeremy turned down Google’s $500,000,000.00 (five hundred million dollars) offer.

Only For Yahoo To Come In And Offer $1,000,000,000.00 (1 Billion Dollars) For The Local Directory Site.

Once again, they turned the offer down…

This small directory and review site became a Publicly Traded Company in 2011…

Where Is Jeremy At Today?

Due to Jeremy never giving up and working very (gut wrenching) hard to achieve his online, business goals, today Yelp Is A Multi­Billion Dollar Corporation And Owns Businesses All Over The World.

My Small Town SEO Business Guide to Big Wins and Steady Profits In my Small Town SEO Business Guide, I’m going to show each of you Jeremy’s out there, how you too can achieve the goals you want, when you remain locally and dedicated to what you believe in.

Here’s The Idea Were Going To Follow: Were going to target a local business niche and were going to build a local directory and target that local niche only.

Imagine your small, home town having a local website directory, where consumers can go to find and or write reviews on local Doctors, local Baby sitters, Local Mechanics, Local Chiropractors, etc.

I have a friend who’s been doing something pretty similar to this, and he let me in on what he was doing.

Local Directories Like These Are So Damn Easy To Rank. It’s so easy it’s fun!

The local terms don’t even exist, so when you attempt to rank for them, the rankings come basically overnight.

You don’t pitch (via email or by actually visiting the local business) the local businesses, until your beautiful, content filled local directory is positioned on page one of Google, for the businesses targeted terms.

These TOP LOCAL based, Google Rankings are hot, and local consumers are already adapt to writing reviews.

Local businesses enjoy being featured at the top of local directories such as these.

I’ve been charging $299.00 a month, for inclusion in my local directory.

The friend I mentioned to you, he charges $497.00 monthly.

We can thank Jeremy and many others for breeding this into the minds of our modern­day consumers.

When you list your business on these BIG directories, such as Yelp, Yellow Pages, etc your business is among hundreds of thousands of others. Likely to never be found by potential clients and consumers.

These local directories, provide a much greater benefit. Local’s who know what they’re looking for, won’t have a problem finding it.

Why I Love This Local SEO Strategy Remember in my story above, when I was telling you about how Yelp got started?

Yelp didn’t become successful, already a HUGE, Established local directory.

In fact, Yelp isn’t local anymore.

Greed and curiosity took that from Jeremy.

The point I’m making here though, is that Yelp started out and originally become successful as a local business directory. (THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND!!)

There’s nothing there, to replace what Yelp was, when Yelp first started. (Where The Success Began!!)

If this opportunity was a snake, it would have already bitten you on the ass.

The Local SEO Process You Must Follow First thing is first, you’re going to have to find yourself a Local Business Directory WordPress Theme.

I recommend hiring someone to build you a custom theme and then package it up, as a product and sell it many times over, after you’re done with it.

I’ve been using the Directory Portal WordPress Theme by Themeforest. It’s a beautiful local directory template.

The Small Town Local SEO Guide’s SEO Process I strongly advise for you to let the domain/website set for a few days, even a few weeks or months (if applicable) before starting an SEO campaign.

If you don’t want to wait, and or don’t have the resources to wait, then that’s fine.

Some of you may already have some local domains, that’ve been sitting and aging for a while, all our situations are different.

I highly recommend that you stay far away from any automated link building tools, when implementing this strategy.

An extreme link building campaign, will kill a non­competitive Local SEO campaign, like the one’s were going after here.

Getting Started To begin, you want to make sure to follow a solid on­site SEO optimization strategy.

Once you’ve properly setup the on­site SEO, then you’re free to start the linking process, which will bewhat I like to refer to as a soft linking campaign.

SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE..

Start off by building some social bookmarks and doing some RSS link building, manually if possible.

I have had great results hiring a Virtual Assistant (VA) to manage my soft link building campaigns.

If done right, it should only take you about 1­2 weeks to get your local business directory onto the first page of Google.

Remember, there’s absolutely no competition, there’s no one fighting to out­rank you.

Be Creative Being creative in your SEO implementation, is the most powerful SEO strategy you’ll ever be strapped with.

The mind is a very powerful thing and when used, to think outside the box, there’s no telling what you can come up with.
