It’s that time again! Are you ready for Texas weather?

Texas weather is more unpredictable than the NCAA basketball tournament, but with a little preparation, you can avoid March Madness and have clear skies for you and your family during severe weather season.

Most importantly, prepare for severe weather BEFORE it strikes. Know what to do before, during, and after a severe weather event Do you have a plan in place with your family? Do you have emergency supplies in place at home, work, and in the car? Do you have multiple ways to receive alerts?

MAKE A PLAN

Have a list of all emergency contacts and other important information in your email or some other place you can access it remotely if need be. How will your family reach each other? Where will you meet if you are separated? Where will you go if you need to evacuate? Make a plan with your family and make sure everyone knows the important information.

EDUCATE YOURSELF

Do you know the difference between a watch and warning? A WATCH means all ingredients for severe weather are present. A WARNING means a severe weather event is actively happening.

If you hear the outdoor warning sirens, they could be activated for several reasons: high winds, large hail, or a tornado. It is important to note that these sirens ARE NOT designed to be heard indoors, so it’s crucial to have multiple ways to get alerts in the case of severe weather. The City of Willow Park has its own alert system with a registration link on the home page of our website

HAVE AN EMERGENCY KIT

Are you prepared to go without water or power in the event of an emergency? Having backup supplies at the ready can make a huge difference.

Start your kit with the following supplies:

Clean water for drinking and sanitation

Non-perishable food

Battery-powered or hand crank weather radio

Flashlight

First aid kit

FOR MORE INFORMATION

Visit ready.gov to view a full list of recommended emergency supplies, a template for a family emergency plan, and further reading about severe weather and how to protect your family. Remember, the best protection you can provide is to be prepared.

The area, which will be called the “Trinity Track,” will have berms, armored trail, bridges and other elements suitable for kids and beginners. There will be an additional 3,000 or so feet of single track trail at the park to help beginners build their skills for the more difficult mountain bike trails.

WHAT YOUR DONATIONS WILL DO

Provide a facility for kids and beginners to learn fundamentals of mountain biking

Create a recreational trail amenity for Kings Gate Park

Build a beginner-level trail

Provide trail markers and EMT locations for emergency personnel

Build a trail head kiosk with a map and rules listing
