WITH LADYWEDSTERIA the tea

Greetings Lovers,

There is always something amiss at a wedding, a fact we must all begrudgingly accept. From a bridesmaid neglecting to steam her dress, a groomsman adorning his boutonniere upside down, to the so-called “dripless” candles betraying their name, these minor mishaps are part and parcel of the grand affair Annoying as they may be, they seldom mar the essence of the celebration Yet, some misfortunes are more grievous than others, as was the case with our dear bride, Kristen Gather around, for here lies a tale brimming with the juiciest details and cautionary lessons for all future brides

Kristen, with her heart steadfast on matrimony, patiently prolonged her engagement to await a beautiful April wedding Envisioning a perfect spring day, she dreamt of a ceremony beneath a majestic oak tree by a serene pond, followed by a reception under a sky adorned with twinkle lights. Quite the picturesque scene, wouldn't you agree? However, one must remember the old adage: "April showers bring May flowers " Alas, rain it did, and with it came unforeseen complications, particularly as her chosen venue lacked a contingency plan for such weather

Imagine Kristen’s dismay upon receiving a call the Monday preceding her Saturday wedding, warning of imminent rain and declaring the venue unusable due to the absence of an indoor alternative The very notion! Naturally, Kristen was enveloped in panic With less than a week to find a new venue in one of the busiest wedding months, her prospects were bleak. After numerous frantic calls, the only available option was her rather unremarkable home church, and even that was only available on Friday.

Compounding her distress, the venue required a decision by Wednesday, but the caterer needed an answer by Tuesday Then, a glimmer of hope: on Tuesday, the venue informed her the rain was now expected in the afternoon, allowing for a Saturday morning wedding at 11 AM Far from ideal, but preferable to the alternative

Photos By Brittanie Wichael Photography

Kristen now faced the Herculean task of notifying all her vendors and 250 guests of the new time. From calling and texting to social media blasts, the days leading up to the wedding were a frenzy of communication Despite her best efforts, some guests inevitably missed the memo

The wedding day itself, though devoid of rain during the ceremony, was far from the idyllic vision Kristen had cherished The early hour necessitated a 5 AM start for bridal preparations, and the 11 AM reception lacked the vibrancy of an evening celebration Nevertheless, a good number of guests attended, and there was dancing and merriment, albeit subdued. The first raindrop fortuitously fell just as Kristen and her new husband departed in their getaway car a perfect, if ironic, ending.

While the day concluded with Kristen marrying at her desired venue, it was a far cry from her dream The stress and chaos left her wishing she had opted for an elopement, a sentiment she now fervently shares with other brides-tobe.

So, what lesson must you, dear reader, take from Kristen’s ordeal? Above all, ensure your venue has a robust rain plan, regardless of the season Do not settle for a makeshift arrangement Moreover, keep your vendors informed of any backup plans to avoid last-minute chaos Remember, with adequate preparation, rain need not dampen your wedding day

WITH COLLEENGAGNON badass beauty

As a bridal makeup artist in North Alabama for the last 13 years, I’ve seen everything from classic looks to more modern looks with rhinestone accessories. When it comes to your wedding day makeup, there are tons of options, and styles are always changing so it can be a little bit overwhelming to settle on the look that is perfect for you. Don’t let all those options overwhelm you though! There are a few simple steps we can take to get to that perfect look that is just for you

First, we need to find your artist Thank God we have the internet, that never ending tool that keeps all the information we could ever want at out fingertips! You can always start with a simple online search to find local artists in or around your area There are so many talented artists in our area, so it’s important to know what exactly you are looking for.

Look for an artist’s style preference As you look through their portfolio online pay attention to their foundation blend and color application Consider what you normally wear every day and what you have envisioned for yourself on your wedding day. Some brides want to look the same on their wedding day as they do daily, and that is totally okay It’s so important to stay within your comfort zone Other brides may want to do the complete opposite on their wedding day and go full glam. Either way, there is artist that will meet the goals you’ve set for yourself

Haven’t found an artist near you that you feel like you can mesh well with? That’s okay You can always search in larger cities near you. Most artists are used to packing up their studios and going on location, 15 minutes away or hours away Just be prepared for the travel and possible lodging costs associated with a vendor a little further out.

This is something to consider when creating your budget Some artists charge $200 while others charge $500 or more, depending on their package options It is absolutely okay to inquire and decide you want to go in another direction if an artist doesn’t fit your budget. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Communication is key!

These responsibilities can vary, so it's essential to communicate openly with the bride and groom to understand their expectations and preferences

Above all, enjoy the celebration and have fun while supporting the groom on his special day, creating lasting memories together Be sure to celebrate responsibly so that the focus can stay on the wedding couple and you are a positive reflection of the kinds of friends they chose to be part of their special day

NON-LOCAL WEDDING PARTY

Reliability transcends geographical proximity While having local members can simplify logistics, don't discount individuals who live far away However, it's crucial to acknowledge the potential pitfalls of distant wedding party members, particularly concerning expenses

When selecting members who reside far away, communication is key Discuss expectations upfront, including travel costs, accommodation arrangements, and time commitments While it's customary for couples to cover certain expenses for their wedding party, such as attire and transportation on the day of the wedding, it's reasonable to expect shared responsibility for additional costs associated with travel and accommodation

Keep in mind that it isn't cheap to accept a proposal to be in someone's wedding To ease the financial burdens placed on the wedding party members, couples can explore various options, such as providing discounted room blocks at local hotels or assisting with travel expenses or other costs where feasible Additionally, incorporating virtual participation can be a thoughtful gesture for distant wedding party members, allowing them to be involved in pre-wedding festivities despite physical distance

Moreover, embracing technology can enhance communication and coordination among wedding party members, regardless of their location Utilize video calls, group chats, and shared digital calendars to stay connected and informed throughout the planning process

Ultimately, the strength of your wedding party lies not in their proximity but in their unwavering support and reliability Choose individuals who will stand by you through every step of the journey By prioritizing open communication, you'll assemble a wedding party that not only enhances your big day but also enriches the entire wedding experience

FALL INSPIRED FIREPLACES AT

NEWEST VENUE

OAK PLACE by the hearth

HARLEY FORRESTER & SAMANTHA SANFORD YOUNG

Is there anything more romantic than a fireplace in the fall and winter? We certainly don’t think so Luckily for all the lovers who have recently been engaged, the newest venue in North Alabama boasts of not one, but seven fireplaces The Venue at Oak Place, located in the heart of Huntsville, Alabama is a historical estate that has been transformed into a hub for entertaining and hospitality It’s old world charm and highly skilled staff are sure to intrigue many new couples as they begin the wedding planning process

The Venue at Oak Place was built in 1840 by Huntsville architect George Steele and was originally called the Steele-Fowler House During the Civil War, Oak Place became the headquarters for Union troops and General Joe Walker as military camps were established in Huntsville. The house was transformed into East Huntsville Baptist Church in 1960 and was not renovated until 1980 While the Venue at Oak Place has a long and interesting background, we am most excited for the future! Everyone who has been a part of the revamp has put so much love and care into the house, and it shows The Venue at Oak Place offers large spaces to accommodate all of your guests, while also being simple enough for a couple to transform it into exactly what they are looking for.

“Watch

out Huntsville, there’s a new venue in town.”

-Harley Forrester

To this day, you can still feel the Greek Revival style Steele pulled inspiration from throughout the house. Unlike other homes of it’s time, The Venue at Oak Place boasts a split-level interior, pocket doors, and an English basement This stunning three story venue offers multiple staircases to show off veils and wedding dress trains beautifully The house is wedding ready, but also offers ample space for any celebration to take place. The parking lot is close by, making it a great location for a late-night snack food truck or a coffee bar

When talking to Lauren Kimbrel , the General Manager of Oak Place, you immediately understand how much she loves the historic home and its future Weddings are a time of celebration, and any celebration at the Venue at Oak Place is sure to be mesmerizing. The opportunities are endless for Oak Place and we can’t wait to see all the beautiful events they host!

BRIGITTEWHALEY skin deep

As you have already figured out, there are so many things on the wedding prep to-do list, but one of the priority items on that list should be taking care of yourself. The biggest organ of our body is our skin, and it is constantly protecting us and holding us together, so it is only right that we do the same for it

Your wedding day will most likely be filled with photo ops, so you are going to want to have skin that is healthy and radiates the beauty it holds together. One of the best ways to do that is to educate yourself about taking care of your skin Our friend, Brigitte Whaley of Tru Aesthetics is our go to girl for all things skin care, and has agreed to generously spill the tea on all things skin prep for wedding days

Brigitte, what led you to become an aesthetician?

I have always had a passion for uplifting and helping people become the best version of themselves that they possibly can. Being an esthetician allows me to play a small role of support in the lives of my clients and allows me to show them how wonderful they really are through their skincare

What is the difference between an aesthetician and a dermatologist?

An esthetician, or skin care specialist, provides services geared toward improving the external appearance of your skin. A dermatologist specializes in the health of your skin. Dermatologists are doctors trained to diagnose specific skin conditions and treat them.

Tell us what kind of services are available for clients who are prepping for their wedding day:

Chemical peels, customized facials, hydrafacials, microneedling, lash lift and tint, brow lamination and tint, dermaplane facials, and oncology Facials It is very important to take care of your skin and any one of these treatments will bring about the corrective change you are

Photos By Brittanie Wichael Photography

seeking whether it is hydration, helping fine lines and wrinkles, or treating acne. With any of the facials, the main benefits are to relax the client, exfoliate and cleanse the skin, and follow up with medical grade skincare. A chemical peel is great for removing the top layer/layers of the skin to bring about new, fresh skin cells which will help the skin to glow

Lash and brow lifts and tints are just to add a lift and some color to those areas That service is great for clients who no longer wish to wear mascara or fill in their brows on a daily basis

What is your favorite service to do?

I really enjoy a dermaplane/dermaflash facial. I enjoy removing the hair and seeing clean skin underneath I also enjoy the Hydrafacial as you are able to see what has been removed from the pores

What should clients expect when they come to see you?

Comfort, care, and professionalism My hope is that my clients feel the energy and genuine desire that I have for their well-being. The services and products that I promote are truly geared toward the improvement of the person's skin as well as their level of confidence when facing the world

“The most important thing in the world that a person can invest in is their health and skin care is critical to good overall health. All other aspects of life such as emotion, strength, energy, and mental well being revolve around physical health. Keeping your body in peak shape is essential to a happy life and your skin just happens to be the largest portion of your body.”

YOURSELFExpresso

Weddings have always been occasions for special beverages, and who doesn’t love a good cocktail or mocktail? We certainly do, but one beverage we love equally is a hot cup of coffee, especially on a cool evening in the autumn or winter Lucky for us, coffee is the kind of drink that can be enjoyed in many ways and all year around.

Karma’s Coffee, located in Cullman, Alabama, is tucked into the warehouse district of it’s hometown. This shop is a local favorite hangout spot and the food and drinks are equally favored Karma’s Coffee now offers a mobile coffee bar for special events and weddings, which we think is brilliant

Coffee is a universal beverage that brings people together, offering a comforting and social element to your event Whether it's to complement desserts, provide a refreshing break between dances, or simply to warm up during outdoor festivities, a well-curated coffee service enhances the overall experience

For couples seeking to elevate their wedding festivities, Karma’s Coffee provides a sophisticated alternative to traditional beverage services. From personalized latte art featuring initials or wedding motifs to a menu of signature drinks named after the happy couple, every detail is tailored to reflect the unique love story being celebrated.

As weddings continue to evolve, so too do the ways in which couples choose to celebrate. With its dedication to quality, creativity, and a deep love for both coffee and love itself, this coffee shop has carved out a unique niche in the wedding industry. It's not just about serving coffee; it's about crafting experiences that linger in the hearts and memories of newlyweds and their guests long after the last cup has been enjoyed.

If you are a coffee lover or you are looking for an alternative to alcoholic beverages for your wedding, we highly recommend Karma’s Coffee

Flat lay photos are some of the first photos your photographer will take on your wedding day. Bring things like your invites, a ring box, Save the Dates, vases, and jewelry for them to use to add some personal touches!

Live musicians are a great way to impress your guests and add to the romance of your ceremony! If you are thinking of having a band for your reception, talk to them about adding string instruments to your ceremony instead of booking a separate vendor.

The natural background of the flat lay photos is perfection! When booking wedding vendors, remember they are artists of their craft, so trust their judgement for aesthetic on your wedding day.

Darker moody flowers can pop so well during the fall and winter months! Having floral inspiration photos are always helpful, just remember that your florist cannot guarantee replications of photographs, especially pictures of other florists’ work.
