What is Vaginal Cancer ? The term vaginal cancer describes cancers that arise in the vagina, the muscular passage running from the cervix to the vulva. Most vaginal cancers develop in the thin layer of cells lining the inside of the vagina, but more rarely cancer can develop in glands in the lining of the vagina. Almost half of all vaginal cancers (48%) occur in women over the age of 70, and the highest rates are seen in women aged 90 and over.
