South London places we love: Brixton,London Brixton is booming. The area is seeing gentrification on a grand scale-becoming one of the hottest areas to rent and buy in London.
Brixton-London Why? Many would put it down to the influence of Brixton Village Market, with its host of trendy shops, stylish bars and fantastic restaurants. In 2010 the owners of the Market offered start-up businesses the chance of several months’ free rent. Fast forward to today; Brixton attracts people from all over town who are keen to sample some of the best new cooking in a buzzing location. Our favourites include Mama Lan for the best fried chicken in London, Nanban for fantastic Japanese fusion food from the winner of Master chef Tim Anderson, and don’t miss Kricket for fabulous South Indian delights. But Brixton is so much more than just a foodie destination. Spaces like the Black Cultural Archives celebrate Brixton’s rich history, as a large percentage of its population is made up of London’s Afro-Caribbean community, who run some of the best shops, cafes and venues in the capital. It’s a big draw for music fans too, with Brixton Academy playing host to a diverse selection of bands and solo artists.
