Futuristic Wearable Technology
OVERVIEW
Part of a small team creating a brand new Dyson category, generating new concepts and looking ahead to future eco-systems. Here, the focus is on one small part of this - comfort.
PROBLEM
648g for a set of headphones is heavy. How do you make them comfortable?
SOLUTION
1. Understand what causes discomfort.
2. Generate objective methodologies to accelerate the iterative design process.
3. Test theories and prove designs with user trials.

Novel pressure rig using Tekscan sensors enables early objective evaluation of ergonomic concepts.
1936 sensors at a 2.5mm pitch arranged over a 115mm x 115mm area create high resolution data.
ERGONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
‘Hot spots’ and ‘feels heavy’ are symptoms of poorly distributed headband force; a warnining sign during trials. Each prototype was trialled with 30 participants. 60 minute duration with a questionnaire every 20 minutes.
CORE CONCEPTS
A storage unit, transport rack and maintenance stand in one device
PROBLEM
Modern living space in urban environments is reducing. Keen cyclists struggle because of everything they need to support their lifestyle
