How to change ink in HP Envy 4511 Ink cartridges are used in inkjet printers. Each cartridge contains one or more reservoirs that are filled with ink and this ink is deposited onto paper during printing. You will have to replace the cartridge when the ink out light flashes or the when the Status monitor notifies you that the cartridge is empty. Replace an ink cartridge that is out of ink as indicated by the blinking lights on your HP Envy 4511 printer's control panel. Make sure that genuine HP ink cartridges are used as HP does not guarantee the printer's performance for non-HP cartridges. HP lately designs cartridges that contain a chip, so non-HP or remanufactured cartridges cannot be used by HP printers. •
First, power on the printer.

Open the ink cartridge access door.

The carriage will move to the center of the printer. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue to the next step.

Do not move the print head by hand; otherwise, you may damage your product. The flat white cable that is present inside the printer should not be touched.

Leave your old cartridges in the printer until you are ready to replace them to prevent the print head nozzles from drying out. Until you are ready to install the ink do not open the ink cartridge packages.

Cartridges are vacuum packed to maintain reliability. Press down on the cartridge you need to replace to release it. If a cartridge is low or expended, the print head moves that cartridge to the indicator position.

Press the stop button again to check for additional low or expended cartridges.

The print head moves to the replacement position when all cartridges have been identified. If no cartridges are low or expended, the print head does not move.

If you want to replace a cartridge before it is low or expended, press the stop button for 6 seconds. The print head moves to the replacement position.

Remove the cartridge from the printer and set it aside for recycling. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging.

Use the pull tab to remove the plastic tape from the cartridge.
