Be imaginative Explore diverse perspectives and emerge as a creative problem solver At Willamette, you’ll explore multiple disciplines encompassing the social and natural sciences, humanities, and the arts. You’ll learn how to bridge ideas and practices across this wide range of perspectives, approaching problems in innovative ways and finding imaginative solutions. And you’ll put your knowledge to work in internship, service and study abroad opportunities that speak directly to your interests.

Meet your biggest advocates You’ll learn from the best at Willamette. Our professors have won numerous national awards for teaching excellence. Whatever you study, you’ll work alongside caring mentors who take a keen interest in your life and talk to you long after office hours have ended for the day. When you’re ready to apply for a job or graduate school, they’ll write you a recommendation that makes you stand out from the crowd.

Home is where the hearth is Small classes are just the starting point of your academic experience at Willamette. We’ve created spaces known as academic hearths where students and faculty gather to study, talk and eat together. In this close-knit learning community, you’ll engage, you’ll discuss, you’ll debate, you’ll connect — and you’ll thrive.

Everybody knows each other, so there’s a lot of collaboration. And if you want to learn something, Willamette has all the resources you need.” — Brandon Nelson ’19

Find new ground and break it Research comes with the territory at Willamette You don’t have to wait until graduate school to conduct high-level research. Our students are collaborating with professors on innovative studies, presenting their findings at national conferences and enhancing our understanding of the world in an array of academic disciplines. And because we offer more than 75 undergraduate research grants annually, you can get paid to study what you love.

Bringing research to life The research opportunities at Willamette extend beyond our advanced labs. Keeton Nance ’19 boarded a boat and collected water samples to investigate the effects of a little-known form of estrogen on human and aquatic life. His team’s research was published in a leading scientific journal.

Be a difference maker Make an impact on campus and improve lives everywhere Civic engagement lies at the core of a Willamette education, and it begins on campus. You can promote sustainability as a student senator, advocate for reform as a member of the Restorative Justice Coalition or reach out to communities near and far. “Not unto ourselves alone are we born” is more than our school motto. It’s the way we live every day.

Leaders are born here Our commitment to public service extends well beyond graduation. Willamette alumni are working for the greater good as U.S. senators and representatives, governors and justices. They’re also tackling the world’s most pressing issues as scientists, policymakers and social justice advocates.

Caring for her community Aspiring doctor Anna Ayala ’19 is passionate about using her knowledge to help others. She found the perfect outlet as a member of Willamette Emergency Medical Services (WEMS), a student-run, professionally licensed agency that serves the campus community.

What I loved about working for WEMS was that it involved a lot of compassion and empathy. I really learned how to put myself in other people’s shoes.”

9

Plug into the

power of proximity Gain professional experience within minutes of campus Salem is a hub of politics, business, healthcare and research. You can intern for policymakers at the state Capitol, conduct studies at the Oregon State Archives, shadow doctors at Salem Hospital or work side-by-side with state economists. You’ll also be within minutes of companies like Garmin and less than an hour from Portland, where you can put your ideas to work for organizations like Nike, Intel, the Portland Trail Blazers and Oregon Health & Science University.

Promoting a healthier future The Capitol’s proximity to campus drew Adrian Uphoff ’19 to Willamette, but he never imagined he’d be a driving force for universal health care in Oregon before he graduated. As a senior, the 22-year-old legislative aide helped secure passage of a bill to establish a new health care commission.

The minute I came to Willamette, I set foot in the state Capitol. Without that experience, I wouldn’t be in the position I am and doing the things I am today.”

Get the full

college experience

Do what you love and make friends for life Willamette is intellectually challenging, but it’s also a lot of fun. With more than 100 student organizations, 19 NCAA Division III teams and dozens of intramural sports to choose from, you’ll find all kinds of ways to tap your talents and make the most of your time. You can get involved in Greek life, DJ your own show on KWU Radio, celebrate your heritage in one of our multicultural clubs or bring big-time acts to campus for the Willamette Events Board. And when it’s time for a break, you’ll always find good food and great conversation at The Bistro, our studentrun coffeehouse. Wherever you go, the friendships you forge will last long after you’ve graduated.

The best thing Willamette does is foster an environment where people can really connect and make long-lasting relationships. Everyone has their doors open.” — RoShaan Rogers ’18, MBA’19

Lee Pelton Theatre, home to one of the top college theatre programs in the nation. And if you’re artistically inclined, you can showcase your work as a member of a the Willamette Dance Company, a cappella groups like Headband, and other student organizations.

Flying high with the Seahawks When Paimon Jaberi ‘17, MBA’18 was a kid, crisp autumn days were all about the Seattle Seahawks. Now he plays an integral role for the team — not as the linebacker he was during his Bearcat days, but as a business intelligence analyst. Willamette’s dual-degree program put him on the fast track to his MBA, and he never looked back.

Willamette just catapulted me into what I want to do, and I feel the sky is truly the limit.”
