SHEEP SHOP PLUGGED

Taking one’s ram to get “plugged” is the highlight of every successful sheep hunt. The act itself is simple, sometimes a bit inconvenient, but somehow, we all find the time to seek out the proper authority within the time required to register our prize into the logs of wild sheep conservation. It’s an honor and a duty. Since the late 1970s, the Wild Sheep Foundation has made and then provided these aluminum-machined horn plugs with their stamped serial numbers free of charge to state, provincial, territorial, tribal, and First Nation wildlife agencies. WSF’s horn plug program has grown globally and will soon be instituted in Central Asia wild sheep conservation and hunting programs. As an example, horn plugs were first used by the Wyoming Game & Fish Department in 1977 to register and issue unique serial numbers to legally harvested rams or those found as pick-ups that could be lawfully possessed. As an extension of wild sheep management efforts, horn plugs have also come to represent a means by which managers can measure and take samples of individual rams through a now mandatory inspection and plugging process. In many jurisdictions, horn plugs have helped with wildlife law enforcement in a situation where a plugged ram materializes out of nowhere, with no idea of ownership or history. WSF is pleased to offer these unique Horn Plug Rocks Glasses as a tribute to this special part of wild sheep hunting, conservation, and management, as well as another tradition of successful and even unsuccessful sheep hunts, a dram our favorite distilled spirits.
