Message from our Executive Director
Thank you for your continuing to support Africa Fire Mission’s work. You make it possible for us to reach even more first responders through quality trainings. It is exciting to see the development that is happening in the fire services in Africa and I’m grateful that YOU are a part of that growth!
In 2023, the Tochi and José fire prevention show was aired several times daily for children and parents through Akili Kids Network. They are excited to receive more episodes in 2024. Kenya’s firefighters are noticing increased respect from the community – we will continue to stand with them!
In June, we provided training to all 4 of the fire brigades in Malawi. Our team of 8 instructors traveled across Malawi so that all of the firefighters could receive training in fire tactics and fire prevention. We were also able to partner with Stifung Rotary Club of Berlin, Germany and Malawi Goodlife to send more PPE to Malawi!
In August, we were able to send 400 sets of Firefighter PPE to Nigeria in partnership with the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria. IHVN is building a collaborative partnership with FCT Fire Service. Together we are protecting lifesaving research by helping to train and protect the firefighters in Abuja, Nigeria! In January 2024, we sent a team to Abuja provide training and the partnership will continue!
In November, 335 firefighters and EMT’s came together in Kenya with 34 AFM instructors and 15 local instructors. Half of the Kenya counties and 22 other agencies were represented!
Transformation is happening in lives of firefighters and EMT’s, in the fire service and in communities where we work. One of the most exciting outcomes was Kenya National Hospital Burn Center reporting that they have seen a 40% reduction in hospitalizations related to burns in 2022 - 2023! Multiplication is happening, lives are being saved and people are seeing God’s love through the service of our volunteers.
In 2024, we remain committed to growing the capacity of the fire service in developing communities.
• We have already completed a mission to Nigeria and have 3 more team trips planned to Africa in 2024.
• We are partnering with the United States Fire Administration for the first World Fire Congress – ensuring that African countries have a seat at the table.
• Akili Kids network just started airing new episodes of Tochi and José Fire Safety Show and more episodes are in final editing!
Thank you for joining us as we serve.

Africa Fire Mission is a 501(c)3 committed to increasing the sustainable capacity of fire departments in developing communities. We accomplish this through training, empowerment, support, and encouragement.
Train:
We partner with Governments, NGO’s, mission organizations, schools and corporations to provide education and training to firefighters and local communities. We use Community Health Education (CHE) to teach firefighters and community members in developing countries to protect themselves from the dangers of fire.
Empower:
We work to increase the ability of communities in developing countries to respond to disasters and provide relief when disasters occur.
Support:
We provide personal protective equipment and communications tools to fire services throughout developing countries to allow fire departments to operate in a safer and more coordinated manner.
Encourage:
We build the capacity of fire services so that local communities are able to provide sustainable public safety and disaster management services.
Core Values:
+ Partnership + Community Ownership + Development + Transformation
+ Sustainability + Advocacy + Innovation

“Despite crushing poverty all around and working conditions that you and I would normally never tolerate – I have never met a people so eager to learn, so devoted to their communities, so proud to serve and so willing to laugh. I’ve never been prouder to be an American. I’ve never been more humbled to be part of a team. I’ve never been more welcomed by a people and more inspired by their determination. Our trip was a study in contrast: The hopeful and happy nature of a people that have seemingly no reason to be hopeful or happy. The frustration with a fire service that had limited fuel, riot cages on their trucks and virtually no public support – balanced by the wide smile on a firefighter’s face when she proudly expressed; “I am a firefighter!” The Mathare slums and the laughter of its children. Kenya has inspired my eyes and my aching muscles – it also broke my heart.”
