Thank you for your continuing to support Africa Fire Mission work. Because of our supporters we are able to provide quality training and development to the fire service in Africa and to support the growth of community fire prevention programs!
In 2022 we were able to launch the Tochi and José fire prevention show which reached over 13 million children and their parents on Akili Kids Network. If you haven’t watched the show yet - check it out on our YouTube channel!
2022 brought opportunities to continue to expand our work. This year we began a partnership with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria and supported their lifesaving research by conducting a fire safety assessment of their infrastructure in Abuja, Nigeria and providing fire safety training to their staff.
In Malawi, we trained 75% of the firefighters in fire tactics and fire prevention. We trained over 450 firefighters and EMT’s in Kenya with 24 AFM instructors and 43 local instructors. Our local partners, volunteers and funders make this possible!
We are seeing transformation in lives of firefighters, in the fire service, and in communities where we work. Development takes time, but as we celebrate 10 years of service, multiplication is happening, infrastructure is being developed and people are seeing God’s love through the service of our volunteers.

Here are some more highlights of the impact of 2022:
• There were an estimated 100 million views of the Tochi and José Fire Safety Show on Akili Kids! Network in Kenya.
• We had an 8,180% increase in the number of individuals reached with in person Community Fire Prevention lessons from 2021.
• Our volunteers invested over 11,725 hours to the fire service in Africa.
A value of over $350,000!
In 2023, we remain committed to growing the capacity of the fire service in developing communities. We are excited to continue training and capacity building in Africa and are looking forward to launching 7 new episodes of the Tochi and José Fire Safety show!
Thank you for joining us as we serve.

“ There were so many meaningful situations that happened on my trip to Malawi. I think the biggest one is that we made a difference. We really helped [the firefighters] to get better. We showed them safe ways to do ladder work, good hose management, CPR and vehicle extrication. After two days of training a firefighter came up to me and said ‘thank you for the training, we now can serve our community better’ I know we made a difference! “

“Our competency in terms of response and workmanship [ has improved ]. Our firefighters have been able to respond so effectively to fires and related emergencies. Our rescue techniques have been enhanced through the trainings and we have also been able to get the appropriate equipment because Africa Fire Mission donated Personal Protective Equipment.”

New Opportunities: CONSULTATION
AFM was invited to Nigeria by the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN) in collaboration with the University of Maryland, School of Medicine to help support a safe infrastructure for their staff as they conduct critical research. Four team members worked in Abuja, Nigeria in September to perform fire safety assessment, inspection and evaluation of IHVN’s facilities and to train their staff. We look forward to more opportunities in Africa to support safety initiatives through collaborative consultation.
