Nature Lab Engineering Challenge: The Power of Water

ENGINEERING CHALLENGE: The Power of Water In Nature Lab this week we explored some different ways that water has shaped the Adirondacks that we know and love today.

Your Challenge: Design Draw, and Build a structure that can stand up to the erosive power of a simulated rainstorm.

MATERIALS: Feel free to use any human-made or natural materials in your design.

NOTE: Please make sure you have permission and don't harm any plants or animals as you gather material.

Time for Some Engineering!

STEP 1 - Create a Blueprint: Draw and Label your Design on the back of this sheet STEP 2 - Predictions: How do you expect your structure to change when you introduce a rainstorm?

STEP 3 - Time To Test: Pour some water on your structure and observe what happens.

Make sure to not interfere with the experiment! That means no touching or saving your structure if it falls apart as you test.

STEP 4 - Reflections: What happened? How would you change your design if you test it again?

BONUS CHALLENGE: Improve your design and test it again! Can you make it even more resilient?

NOTE: Make sure you use a location that can get wet!
