In partnership with Commhoist, Wigan Athletic Community Trust delivered an environmental social action project with primary schools encouraging pupils to develop and implement their own ideas of how to improve sustainability in their respective schools and communities, in turn, raising awareness around protecting our planet.
• Eight partner primary schools engaged with the project.
• Over 50 pupils presented their project ideas at the DW Stadium over two heats to a panel of judges.
• Based on the questionnaire results, 100% of pupils reported the project improved their physical and mental wellbeing, they felt inspired and engaged, and it improved their confidence and self-esteem.
• The project inspired these partner schools to create their own ‘Eco-councils’ or ‘Sustainability Stars’ to continue the project even after project completion.
Commhoist Received:
• A pitch side Presentation with Wigan Athletic players to launch the partnership
• Two live bespoke social action events at the DW Stadium
• Media Coverage of the partnership through Community Trust and Club social media, club matchday programme, video content and local news outlets for a combined reach of nearly 800,000 people
• 25 Free Tickets for Commhoist staff to attend a select Wigan Athletic fixture
