YOUR LEARNING
POWERHOUSE: NOVEMBER 2025
Future Energy Zone - Powering a Sustainable Tomorrow
We’re proud to introduce our Future Energy Zone - Sustainable Technologies Space: a cutting-edge facility designed to lead the region in green skills development, innovation, and real-world application of low-carbon technologies.
As the construction and building services industries rapidly evolve in response to climate change and net zero targets, our new space puts us at the forefront of technical education and workforce development.
This facility ensures you’re ready for the future. As more sustainable technologies are integrated into our Construction, Engineering, and Building Services programmes, learners will gain early exposure to the systems shaping the future of modern buildings. This unique added value ensures our students graduate with a technical edge, aligned to industry needs and environmental responsibility.
The Future Energy Zone is not just a space - it’s a catalyst for change. By embedding sustainability across our curriculum and providing access to the latest technologies, we’re equipping learners at all stages of their career with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of future homes and workplaces.
LEIGH CAMPUS EXPANDS ANIMAL MANAGEMENT
This new centre includes a scenario-based learning environment with industrystandard equipment to develop the skills you need in animal care roles.
This includes: animal boarding, veterinary care, animal pet shop, and an aquatics centre.
The facility also includes multimodel spaces for practical and theory T Level course sessions.
VIRTUAL REALITY SPACE, THE CAVE (CAVE AUGMENTED VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT)
This shared immersive space goes beyond a virtual reality headset, allowing groups of learners to be immersed in a scene, or view 360 degree content together, using wall and floor projection.
You can become immersed in authentic workplace environments, such as a busy hospital ward. In addition, Health & Social Care learners can explore immersive and interactive 3D models of human anatomy.
Using 3D and motion tracking technology, the CAVE allows learners to move around a 3D landscape or model. Computing or Engineering students can bring their own projects to life, experiencing their newly developed content, with wall and floor projection to fully immerse themselves in their own production.

ENGLISH LITERATURE

You’ll also study a wide range of novel extracts from different genres and literary traditions.
PLAYS: Theatre, from its roots in storytelling and poetry, remains a powerful art form. We study Othello and Translations, focusing on themes like identity, politics, and relationships. You’ll examine how these plays work on stage and why their cultural impact lasts.
POETRY: You’ll explore poems about love from different styles since 1900, including modernist, traditional, post-modernist, and confessional works. You’ll also study the contemporary collection Skirrid Hill by Owen Sheers. Using a historical approach, you’ll deepen your understanding and develop your critical thinking skills.
ASSESSMENT: Most exams are ‘open book’, so you can use texts during tests. Your interpretation matters more than memorising quotes, and our classes help you develop your own ideas.
