Oratorio and Humperdinck’s “Evening Prayer ” from Hansel and Gretel – especially when the audience joins in with the school choirs. Families and schools aren’t the only ones to benefit from the various activities of the Wiener Symphoniker. Yefim Bronfman, an American pianist with roots in Tashkent, strikes up conversations with apprentices about Piano Concerto No.2 in B-flat major op. 83 by Johannes Brahms – not just at rehearsals but beforehand at their places of work. The dual vocational training system in Austria makes artistic and creative projects a particularly worthwhile undertaking because creative skills offer so many connections to the precision, patience and mastery needed in other professions. arsal visits for music students with their peers in the orchestra – Junge Akademie Wien is the development programme run by the Music Schools of the City of Vienna for professional musicians in training. For the Wiener Symphoniker, the aim is to familiarise students as early as possible and in a variety of ways with the day-to-day work of the orchestra – not least so that the baton of enthusiasm for music is passed on to young people.
