It’s simple math - wider and longer planks create fewer seams and joints, which dramatically simplifies the effect and allows the beauty of the wood to stand out. Planks are available up to 20” wide with average lengths up to 11’.
Carlisle craftsmanship incorporates time-honored techniques to bring to light the natural beauty and character of each flooring plank. As many as two dozen pairs of hands will touch each plank during its journey from rough timber to a work of art.
Our wood is strategically procured from regions of the country where each species grows best, because the quality of a floorboard starts with the quality of the tree.
We take boards from the center (or heart) of the tree, which features more heartwood and vertical grain - characteristics that are important to the stability of a wide plank floor and mean less warping and cupping over time.
Every Carlisle floor is crafted individually - a practice unheard of in the wood flooring industry today. Mass production of commodity flooring has robbed wood flooring of its natural beauty. At Carlisle, our goal is to reestablish the “art of wood”.

What is wide plank flooring? Compared to the typical strip width of 2-1/4” to 3” offered in most of today’s mass-produced wood flooring, a 6” wide board would definitely be considered wide. On the other hand, you can find pine flooring boards as wide as 30” in homes along the Eastern Seaboard that were built 200 years ago.
