Carlisle Wide Plank Floors worked with design and construction teams all over the country to create a customized flooring solution for a nationwide retail store design for an internationally recognized electronic brand.
Challenges
#1. PROVIDE A CUSTOM WOOD FLOORING GRADE THAT WOULD MEET THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE DESIGN TEAM.
ACHIEVED: The design aesthetic they wanted to achieve was a customized premium select grade that required the planks to be 100% clear and void of any surface knots regardless of size, burls and mineral streaks that are naturally found and usually celebrated in this species of wood. Our craftsmen inspected every board several times to ensure it met these strict requirements and the high standards the client expected.
#2. PROVIDE CUSTOM WIDTHS AND LENGTHS FOR A CLEAN, REFINED LOOK.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle provided all 5½" solid white maple flooring to meet the flooring specification requirements. Carlisle hand cut all white maple flooring in only three custom lengths to meet the flooring specification requirements.
#3. PROVIDE A 5/8" THICK PRODUCT.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle custom milled the product to 5/8" thick to meet the product design specification requirements.
#4. PROVIDE DELIVERY OPTIONS TO NATIONWIDE LOCATIONS.
ACHIEVED: The Carlisle Commercial Group created enhanced inventory and production management processes to provide just in time delivery to over 80 stores nationwide.
#5. DUPLICATE THE FLOOR DESIGN FOR MULTIPLE STORES.
ACHIEVED: Due to Carlisle’s custom manufacturing capabilities, we were able to create a specific grade of flooring just for the Electronics Retail Store project, and deliver a consistent quality and aesthetic for all retail locations.

YORK CITY
Carlisle Wide Plank Floors worked with the design team at this internationally recognized fashion brand to create a custom wood flooring solution for an upscale retail store in New York City.
Challenges
#1. PROVIDE A PATTERN AND PLANK FLOOR DESIGN FOR THE STORE.
ACHIEVED: Due to Carlisle’s custom capabilities, we were able to produce one flooring design in two styles — plank and chevron pattern floor, allowing the design team to maintain a cohesive feel, while still dividing unique areas, of the store.
#2. INSTALL A SOLID WOOD FLOOR TO CONCRETE.
ACHIEVED: This solid wood floor was glued direct to a concrete slab. Due to Carlisle’s selective procurement and proprietary SlowCraft® process our solid wood can be installed direct to a concrete slab, when using proper preparation and installation methods.
#3. PROVIDE A DURABLE WOOD FLOOR FOR A RETAIL LOCATION.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle’s northern grown Hickory flooring is the hardest wood floor from North America. It provided a solid, stable and durable surface to withstand the foot traffic for this busy retail location.
#4. DEVELOPED A CUSTOM COLOR THROUGH EXTENSIVE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
ACHIEVED: The design team had a very specific vision in mind for their retail location. The Carlisle Custom Shop created a custom color to meet this vision through extensive testing and product development of proprietary stains and finish systems.
#5. PROVIDE MATCHING STAIR COMPONENTS.
ACHIEVED: The Carlisle Custom Shop created matching stair components which created a seamless transition between all levels of the store for a cohesive look.
COSMETICS RETAIL STORE
SANTA MONICA, CA
Carlisle Wide Plank Floors worked with the design team on the project to create a unique wide plank floor design for this retail location. It would inspire over 40 similar retail locations as part of a 3-year nationwide growth plan.
Challenges:
#1. WORK WITH A TIGHT DEADLINE.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle’s enhanced production and supply management systems allowed us to expedite the order, and provide on time delivery of the prefinished floor, with only half of our typical production time available.
#2. PROVIDE A WIDE PLANK SOLID WOOD FLOOR THAT COULD BE INSTALLED TO A CONCRETE SLAB.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle provided All 10" wide plank Ash Flooring, in solid construction, that could be glued direct to a concrete slab. #3. MINIMIZE HEIGHT AND TRANSITIONS.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle custom milled the product to 5/8" thick to minimize height and transition issues.
#4. PROVIDE A PREFINISHED WOOD FLOOR TO REDUCE INSTALL TIME.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle delivered a prefinished floor so there was no finishing required on the site.
#5. PROVIDE A WOOD FLOOR SOLUTION THAT IS DURABLE AND EASY TO REFINISH FOR A COMMERCIAL APPLICATION.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle Custom Coat® prefinished floors, can be refinished in a matter of hours, and there is no sanding required. The wear layer of the flooring is also thick enough that the floor can be sanded up to 3 times if needed. Carlisle’s northern grown Ash flooring is extremely durable, sought after for baseball bats. It provided a solid, stable and durable surface to withstand the foot traffic for this busy retail location.

Carlisle Wide Plank Floors worked with the local showroom owners and a commercial architecture firm to create a custom wood flooring solution for a new dealership and retail store. The floor had to meet a certain aesthetic design requirement and accommodate a direct glue down installation, while also reducing overall cost.
Challenges
#1. MATCH THE QUALITY OF THE BRAND AND THE SHOWROOM.
ACHIEVED: Products like those available from this internationally recognized motorcycle brand, reflect a higher level of quality and craftsmen and have established themselves as a national icon. #2. INSTALL A SOLID WOOD FLOOR TO A CONCRETE SLAB TO MINIMIZE TRANSITION IN DOORWAYS AND ADJACENT TO OTHER HARD SURFACE FLOORING BEING INSTALLED IN THE SPACE.

ACHIEVED: When the overall cost of the desired flooring solution became a concern, Carlisle actively participated in the value engineered process to provide alternative solutions that would still meet the design vision and desired budget, so the customer could maintain the level of quality desired in the final wood flooring selection.

WASHINGTON, DC
Carlisle Wide Plank Floors worked with a design team at a prominent commercial interior design and architecture firm to design a wide plank flooring solution that could be installed in this luxury hotel and restaurant.
Challenges
#1. CREATE A CUSTOM WIDE PLANK FLOOR DESIGN THAT MATCHED THE SCALE OF THE PROPERTY.
ACHIEVED: The grand, open scale of the hotel and restaurant warranted the use of wide plank floors. Carlisle crafted an all 8" wide solid wood floor to meet this design requirements. This created an elegant and simple design aesthetic for this upscale hotel.
#2. INSTALL A SOLID WOOD FLOOR TO CONCRETE.

Carlisle Wide Plank Floors worked closely with the Project Designer to create a custom wide plank flooring solution for this boutique restaurant at new hotel from an internationally recognized hotel group. Carlisle also worked closely with the construction professionals involved to coordinate on-time delivery and to review installation methods for direct to concrete installations.
Challenges
#1. PROVIDE A SOLID WIDE PLANK FLOOR DESIGN.
ACHIEVED: The owners of the restaurant wanted to create a wide plank look but also wanted to use a solid wood floor. Carlisle’s high quality hardwood flooring can be crafted up to 12" wide. We were able to create a solid wood floor that was All 6" wide.
#2. PROVIDE A DISTRESSED WOOD FLOOR SOLUTION THAT WAS NOT TOO RUSTIC.
ACHIEVED: The design team for this project has a very specific design vision which included a hand distressed texture that would give the floor more character, but not make the floor appear too rustic. After extensive product development the Carlisle Custom Shop was able to customize a distressing technique that met these design expectations.
#3. PROVIDE LONG LENGTHS TO MINIMIZE SEAMS.
ACHIEVED: Carlisle wide plank Hickory floors used here were crafted up to 12' long to minimize seams and create a simpler design aesthetic.
#4. PROVIDE A PREFINISHED FLOORING SOLUTION WITH A CUSTOM COLOR.
ACHIEVED: The Design Team for this project had a very specific color in mind for the final floor. Carlisle went through an extensive product development process to develop a custom stain color that met the design requirements, and which could also be refinished by the Carlisle Custom Shop to match the approved color sample
