CLASS NOTES CHESTER CAMPUS

1975

Widener football legend Billy "White Shoes" Johnson ’75 was named to Yardbarker’s list of the 25 most eccentric NFL players of all time.

1980

Ed Moldaver ’80 and his son, Daniel, rang the NASDAQ opening bell on Sept. 18, 2025.

1988

Joseph E. Hoffman ’88 has joined the board of directors at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health (UM UCH) and its hospitals. Hoffman has been appointed to serve as vice chair of UM UCH and the hospital board finance committees.

Widener trustee Susan Larkin ’88, has been named as one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2025 women of influence. Larkin serves as executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Independence Health Group.

1989

Mark Mummert ’89 has been named chief operating officer at Albemarle Corporation, a specialty chemical manufacturing company based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Steve Boehning ’89 has been reappointed as vice chair of the Florida Inland Navigation District by Florida governor Ron DeSantis. Boehning has served in this role since 2021.

1993

Luke O'Boyle ’93 has been appointed as general manager for Windsor, a private sporting and residential community located in Vero Beach, Florida.

1994

Melissa Nicolas ’94 has been named director of the women’s, gender, and sexuality studies program at Washington State University. She also serves as a member of the English faculty.

1995

Donita Sturgis ’95 has been named a professional of the year for 2025 by Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide. Sturgis is currently CEO of Anchor’s Hope LLC.

1996

Peter Garzia ’96 and his wife, Jennifer Garzia ’98, met with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson in Washington D.C. as part of “We The Patients Week” hosted by Patients Rising in June, 2025. They advocated for continued access to Medicaid and Medicaid reform and shared the story of their son who lives with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare and complex genetic disorder.

1997

Pat Clark ’97 has been named director of student activities at Unionville High School.

William Mattern ’97 has been appointed president and CEO of Sharon Bank.

1999

Steve Zohrabian ’99 ’02 has been appointed executive vice president of XTI Aircraft Co., a subsidiary of XTI Aerospace Inc. Zohrabian will lead development of XTI Aircraft’s family of VTOL aircraft.

2004

Samuel Kieffer ’04 has been named CEO of the National Association of Wheat Growers. He brings more than 20 years of experience in agricultural leadership and farm policy knowledge to the role.

2010

Chris Poston ’10 has been appointed senior vice president of asset management for residential investment and development firm Trilogy Investment Co.

2011

Eric Chrencik ’11 has been named a shareholder for RMF Engineering, a leader in full-service mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering.

2012

Christina Ring ’12 was named nurse practitioner of the year at the Central Penn Business Journal's Health Care Heroes Awards & Summit for her work as a nurse practitioner at Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.

2013

Elisha Boney, ’13 published her new book “Resilience Unveiled: My Journey through Trauma, Betrayal, and Self-discovery.”

2015

Tyler Rank ’15, a chiropractor at Spine and Wellness Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, led chiropractic screenings and consultations as part of a sports chiropractic health screening and education day hosted by the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association at the Pennsylvania State Capitol.

2019

Dakarai Daniel ’19 and Andrew Proctor ’19 were part of a team that took home an Emmy at the 67th Capital Emmy Awards for their pre-game video shown at the Washington Commanders’ stadium before the players take the field.

2021

Shawn Dutkiewicz ’21 has been appointed superintendent of schools for the Octorara Area School District.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTS

NICK PULOS ’85, CATHY PULOS ’84, AND JIM HIRSCHMANN ’82

Widener alumnus, Nick Pulos ’85, stands in front of two plaques in an entry portal at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California recognizing Widener University and honoring Hall of Fame coach Bill Manlove, who led the Pioneers to two NCAA Division III national championships. Widener alumna and board of trustees member Cathy Pulos ’84, who took the photos, was also on site as the couple attended the October 4 Penn State at UCLA football game. Nick Pulos was a member of the 1981 championship team, helping Widener win its second national title in five years.

This recognition was made possible by Widener alumnus and board of trustees member Jim Hirschmann ’82, a team captain of the 1981 championship team and a member of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation board of directors, which he served as chairman during the time of the renovations. Hirschmann’s support of the Rose Bowl led to this special recognition for Manlove and Widener. The signs are at tunnel #20 – Hirschmann’s uniform number at Widener. NOTE: Plans are in place to correct the national championship dates.

TERESA SHELLENBARGER ’95 AND BRENDA ELLIOTT ’12

Teresa Shellenbarger ’95 and Brenda Elliott ’12, graduates of the nursing science doctoral program in the Jack & Nancy Dwyer School of Nursing, have been inducted into the American Academy of Nursing’s prestigious fellowship program.

The American Academy of Nursing is an honorific society and a policy organization comprised of more than 3,000 fellows who represent nursing’s most accomplished leaders in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia. This distinguished honor celebrates nurses for their extraordinary contributions to improve health locally and globally. Those inducted into the program earn the fellow of the American Academy of Nursing credential, the most prestigious recognition in nursing.

Shellenger is the executive director for the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation, and Elliot is an an associate professor and director of the graduate program in nursing at Messiah University.

DELAWARE LAW CLASS NOTES

1978

Lee A. Solomon ’78 has been named a 2025 recipient of the prestigious Medal of Honor by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation. This recognition is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the justice system and the legal profession in New Jersey. Solomon is a retired New Jersey Supreme Court justice and was the first Delaware Law School alumnus to serve on a state Supreme Court.

1986

Richard DiLiberto Jr. ’86 has been reappointed as chairman of the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, a role he has been serving in since 2006.

1987

Larry Bendesky ’87 has been awarded the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association’s Justice Michael A. Musmanno Award. This award is given annually to the person who best exemplifies the same high integrity, scholarship, imagination, courage, and concern for human rights as exhibited by the late Justice Musmanno.

1991

Joseph Maressa Jr. ’91 has been appointed as chairman of the board for South Jersey Ports.

1992

Joel Fishbein ’92 has joined Guggenheim Securities as a senior managing director of technology and investment banking practice.

1993

Hugh O'Neill III ’93 has been made a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Since 1950, the American College of Trial Lawyers has strived to preserve and enhance trial practice, civility, professionalism, and the administration of justice, through support of an independent judiciary, the rule of law, trial by jury, and access to justice.

1994

William Brady ’94 has joined Brockstedt Mandalas Federico LLC as senior counsel.

1995

Christopher Gerber ’95 has joined Lamb McErlane's West Chester office as a partner bringing nearly 30 years of experience to the firm.

Widener board of trustees member Min S. Suh ’95 has joined Eckert Seamans’ Philadelphia office bringing her expertise in employment-based immigration law.

1997

Terrance McDonald ’97 attorney and owner of Terrence J. McDonald, Esquire, P.C., was named to the board of directors at Johnson College.

1999

Jason Banonis ’99 has been elected to the board of governors of the Bowie State University Maguire Academy for Risk Management and Insurance. Banonis currently works as an attorney for Marshall Dennehey.

Karen Vincent ’00, a shareholder in the workers’ compensation department at Capehart Scatchard, recently completed the 2025 BMW Berlin Marathon, raising more than $2,500 for childrens’ charities.

2004

Joseph DeFelice ’04, assistant deputy secretary and regional administrator at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, has been selected as a City & State 40 In Their 40s honoree.

2005

Chris Cabott ’05, CEO of Equity Sports, has been named one of The Hollywood Reporter's top sports lawyers of 2025. The accolade is part of The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural sports power lawyers list, which celebrates attorneys who are driving billion-dollar deals, shaping athlete branding, and influencing the future of sports business.

2006

Nicholas Wachinski ’06, partner at ERG Partners, has been selected as a City & State 40 In Their 40s honoree.

2007

Sonia Augusthy ’07 was publicly sworn in for her first term as judge of the Superior Court of Delaware.

Kristina Watkowski ’07 has been appointed to the Worcester County Circuit Court by Maryland governor Wes Moore.

2013

Timothy Lutes ’13 has been promoted to deputy district attorney in Bucks County.

2014

Brittany Giusini-Tsoflias ’14 has joined Barnes & Thornburg as of counsel in the firm’s Wilmington office.

Vikas Bowry ’14 has joined the cyber team at Constangy’s Philadelphia office as an associate attorney.

2018

Deirdre Lewis ’18 has joined Figure Technology Solutions as vice president of compliance.

2022

Three Delaware Law School Class of 2022 alumni are board members for the Young Lawyers Division of the Atlantic County Bar Association: Dennis M. Tuohy Jr. ’22, Emanuel Sanfilippo III ’22, and Rachel Koutishian ’22. The division was recently recognized with an official resolution from Atlantic City for the group’s outstanding contributions to public service and civic engagement in the areas of community outreach, legal education, and service initiatives.

2024

Dominique Grimes ’24 has been sworn in as a new assistant prosecutor in the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Tahmina Chowdhury ’24 has joined Parker McCay as an associate in the firm’s Mount Laurel, New Jersey office.

Kaitlyn Zirrith ’24 has joined Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP as a litigation associate.

Petro Cohen P.C. has announced the promotion of Kelly Bachich Sheehan ’24 to associate attorney focusing on workers’ compensation.

2025

Vivian Hadian ’25 has joined Norris McLaughlin P.A.’s Allentown office as an associate in the firm's real estate and finance practice group.

1993

Drew Crompton ’93, president of McNees Government Relations, was featured on City & State Pennsylvania’s Fifty Over 50 list, recognizing professionals who have devoted their careers to the betterment of their fields.

Albert Evans ’93 was appointed by Mid Penn Bancorp Inc. to its board of directors.

1995

Peter Gleason ’95, managing principal at 1812 Strategies, was featured on City & State Pennsylvania’s Fifty Over 50 list, recognizing professionals who have devoted their careers to the betterment of their fields.

Scott Coppeto ’95 has joined Winged Keel Group as a director, client relationship manager.

Terrence Sawyer ’95 is featured on The Daily Record’s higher education power list for 2025. Sawyer currently serves as president of Loyola University Maryland.

1996

Chris Marzzacco ’96 was featured in the 32nd edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Scott Miller ’96 published “Christianity and Your Neighbor’s Liberty,” a book of apologetics and a theology of liberty.

Stephanie Doliveira ’96 has joined the board of directors at S&T Bancorp Inc.

1998

Richard Laws ’98 has been appointed as senior executive vice president and chief legal counsel at WesBanco.

Michelle Schultz ’98 was nominated by the Trump administration to serve a second term on the Surface Transportation Board. Schultz has been a member of the board since 2021 and currently serves as vice chair.

2005

Kristen Hamilton ’05 has been sworn in as the 131st president of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. She is the youngest female president in the association’s history and only the eighth woman to hold the position.

2006

Kristen McRee ’06 has been appointed executive director of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission.

2011

Taisha Tolliver-Duran ’11 has been elected to the board of Bloom for Women, an organization which provides sanctuary and a continuum of care to heal, empower, and employ survivors of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

2013

Lucas Csovelak ’13, a partner of Weber Gallagher, has been named 2026 Harrisburg lawyer of the year in the workers’ compensation category by The Best Lawyers in America.

2014

Melissa Chapaska ’14 was appointed pro bono counsel by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The appointment is part of a court program that seeks to provide legal representation to indigent litigants from attorneys who can provide the high-quality appellate advocacy necessary for a court that decides issues of first impression or that are otherwise important to establishing or clarifying Pennsylvania law.

2015

Rebecca Bailey ’15 and Jordan Marzzacco ‘15 have been appointed to the sixth edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America.

2017

Justin Shedron ’17 has joined the city of Cleveland Prosecutors Office as an assistant prosecuting attorney.

2022

Jacqueline Pitts ’22, partner at Holman and Pitts Law, accepted the Business of the Year award from the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce

2024

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR BOB NEVELN

Associate Professor Bob Neveln was a valued member of the computer science and mathematics departments in the College of Arts & Sciences. Neveln joined the Widener faculty in 1987 and was known for his dedication to excellence in the classroom and his commitment to research.

After graduating from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena in 1967, he went on to earn a PhD in mathematics at Northwestern University in 1975. Neveln was a dedicated activist and was impassioned in his opposition to wars of aggression. He met his wife, Buthaina, while on a peace mission in Baghdad. A respected scholar, Neveln was particularly interested in assembly language and authored the book “Linux Assembly Language Programming.” He is remembered by colleagues for his sense of humor, kind heart, strong work ethic, and musical talents.
