No queues, no trolley rage… Just all the 100% organic food and drink needed for the tastiest Christmas ever.
From slow-grown sprouts and the ultimate roasting potatoes, to Bronze breed turkeys, handmade mince pies, and farmhouse cheeses. We carefully source everything for the very best flavour, from small family farmers and artisan makers who we know and trust.
And it’s all delivered to the front door in time for the big day.
A Riverford Christmas means focusing on the stuff that really matters: spoiling loved ones, making memories, and tucking into outstanding food.
Planning, planting, tending… we’ve put months of love into our festive fruit and veg. We carefully choose the tastiest varieties and slowgrow them for the best flavour. We have boxes suitable for all family sizes and prices start at £15.15 for a small veg box. Here’s what we hope to pack into Christmas boxes this year: leeks, white onions, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, swede, red cabbage, Brussel sprouts, chestnut mushrooms, cauliflower, Calabrese broccoli.
We think that small-scale organic family farms are the most sustainable way of producing food. All of our suppliers look after their soil, livestock and wildlife by farming respectfully and in tune with nature.
We only sell food that we think is truly outstanding, made by people we know and trust.
Veg is in the Tucker family’s genes at Venn Farm, South Devon. Richard and his dad Trevor grow a range of beautiful organic veg, including Savoy cabbage, leeks, purple sprouting broccoli, and the all-important swedes for our Christmas veg boxes. The pair converted their family farm to organic in 2011, and started growing veg for Riverford in 2020.
The Tuckers’ farm is about 400ft above sea level, not far from the famous Slapton Sands beach; you can see the sea from the farm. The land there is described as fairly ‘light’, level, and without a lot of top soil – but the climate seems to suit veg growing, particularly swedes, which are notoriously hard to grow.
“It’s only me and my dad, Trevor, working on the farm now,” says Richard. “He’s 71 and was born in the farmhouse where he is today. He’s never been on holiday and has only been to London twice, that’s as far as he’s been. He’s knowledgeable as hell though, thanks to his dad; my grandad was one of the best farmers in the South Hams.”
“They used to call him ‘green fingers’ because he could grow anything. He was Cornish and came up to Devon before the Second World War in 1923. So actually this year we are celebrating 100 years on the farm.”
With a young family, Richard is hopeful the next generation will want to carry on the farming legacy. But until then, he has the same concerns as any parent: getting enough veg into the children. “I had swede last night for dinner – I’ve got four young kids, so we have it mashed, with a dash of butter and some pepper. Some people fry it in chunks in a frying pan, so I might give that a go at some point, and I also like it in a stew or pasty. But for Christmas it will definitely be mashed.”
Whether feeding a crowd or keeping it simple, we’ve got a brilliant organic centrepiece to stop the show at every Christmas feast. From whole turkeys (we choose traditional Bronze breed birds, for their rich natural flavour), to stuffed turkey joints and duck, sweet Wiltshire gammon, and more.
Organic is the gold stamp of animal welfare; it demands the highest standards of any farming system.
Whether it’s a lean, tender organic beef sirloin, the ultimate celebration joint, or a wonderfully succulent crowd-pleasing joint of gammon, our meat comes from our producer group of small-scale organic farmers, who rear their animals to some of the highest welfare standards around, enjoying an outdoor existence, and reaching maturity naturally.
All expertly prepared in our own butchery.

Frenchbeer Farm, Dartmoor
The Malseed Family run Frenchbeer Farm rearing award-winning organic turkeys that are the show-stopping centre of organic Christmas dinners.
“In 1986 my parents came to the traditional Dartmoor hill farm known as Frenchbeer,” says John, son of Christine and Mike Malseed. “While building up a sheep flock and a beef herd, a few Christmas turkeys were raised to aid cash flow.” The birds proved very popular – and over 30 years later, the Malseeds’ award-winning turkeys are the showstopping centre of organic Christmas dinners across the country.
Frenchbeer Farm sits above Chagford on the north-east of Dartmoor National Park. In total, the Malseeds tend 1200 acres of moorland and upland hills. They still rear suckler cows, hill sheep, geese, some lovely Dartmoor ponies – and two helpful hounds named Jack and Wilf, who can be seen herding flocks across the moor and down the lanes. But the Frenchbeer turkeys really are the stars of the show.
The Malseeds choose Bronze turkeys: a traditional breed that grows slowly but gives a wonderfully rich natural flavour. They’re also some very lucky birds! From the pastures where the organic flock is free to roam, they have a cracking view: looking down over misty fields and woodland, far across the West Devon landscape.

How to make the perfect crispy parsnips, how to season carrots and why crossing Brussels sprouts is a timewasting myth – read our top tips for Christmas veg.
After the sprouts and stuffing, Christmas dinner is all about the roast potatoes. Try roasting them with some robust winter herbs; they love thyme, rosemary, and sage.
If by any chance there are some leftover roasties, they can be put to good use in a thrifty kitchen. They can transform into a clumsy bubble and squeak with a few wilted greens; or, chopped and fried, they’ll form the backbone of a breakfast hash, alongside some onions, mushrooms, spinach, and a fried egg to finish.
Carrots are a perfect partner to most of the festive mulling spices. If roasting, braising, or boiling them, then a shard of cinnamon, a star anise, and a clove or two wouldn’t go amiss – along with a bay leaf and a few slices of clementine for fragrance.
Any leftover carrots can be the backbone of a robust winter salad, with some peppery leaves and a good dressing –try pairing with some chickpeas, pine nuts, and feta. They can be whizzed up
Try roasting parsnips with a pinch of two of cumin and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. If used cautiously, they’ll amplify the earthiness and the sweetness of the parsnips, without dominating the rest of the meal.
Brussels sprouts – the axis upon which the whole feast rotates. It’s best not to cut a little cross in the base; just keep the small ones whole and split the bigger ones in half. They don’t take long to cook; about 4 mins in boiling water, or 8-10 mins in a hot oven to roast them, should be all you need.
Leftovers can always find their way into a Boxing Day bubble and squeak, or be shredded into stir-fries or restorative bowls of broth.
Red cabbage adds a flash of festive colour to the Christmas table. It’s classically slow cooked with plenty of wine, mulling spices, and dark, plummy fruits – but it can also be great raw, finely shredded into any salads or slaws that appear in the days around Christmas.
If there is leftover braised red cabbage, consider a second life as a cold condiment. The spicing has much in common with most chutneys. Try adding a dash of red wine vinegar to give it a pickled edge, and serve it alongside leftover cold cuts, or tuck a little into a roast beef or ham sarnie. A dab in a cheese toastie works too, provided the cheese is strong and sharp.
