I can’t imagine life would be enjoyable or your business relationships worthwhile if you weren’t. Mentor: I wouldn’t be the person or teacher I am without the guidance, friendship and support of the late Les Anderson. For five years, he was my mentor in the Elliott School at Wichita State. Director of Creative Services and Community Relations, Sunflower Broadcasting Inc.

Age: 37. Place of birth: Wichita. Career highlight: Covering the Haysville tornado on May 3, 1999. I’ll always remember the date and the details that led up to our continuous coverage. Haysville was the first time I truly understood our responsibility as broadcasters to the communities we serve. The weather information broadcasters provide saves lives. Best business advice: Try to engage everyone so that they feel like they’re the most important person in the world. Mentor: Thane Chastain. He allowed me, and so many others, to explore television and digital production, finding out what we loved about the fields.

What nonprofit boards have you served on? Kansas Hispanic Education & Development Foundation; Wichita Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; American Red Cross Midway Kansas Chapter. What is your Twitter handle? @Justdomisfine. Morning person or night owl? Is there such a thing as a noon person? If not I guess I’ve become more of a morning person over the years. Any tattoos? I have a panther on my forearm, a rose with a hand extending out, a woman in a horseshoe, a heart my with grandma Helen’s name, a ridiculous butterfly, and a panther head with the name of my grandfather Perfecto’s name below. Farthest you’ve traveled from Wichita? Nicosia, Cyprus. What is your dream vacation? Sitting on a beach, with a drink in my hand.

AWESOME

Being creative is a function of my job… so I decided to choose a cliché, “You don’t know a man until you walk a mile in his shoes.” There are things you remember about the people you admire most. For my grandfather it was his tattoos and his shoes. I wish I could wear his shoes but they don’t fit. He was a loyal, hard-working man, mostly construction and then as janitor for USD 259. No matter what he wore, or how hard he worked, his shoes were shined. As a child I would watch him preform his ritual… polish… brush… buff… polish… brush… buff… until they were transformed from something rough and old to bright and new. He was a bit rough, and as a matter of fact, so am I, but he found a way to change. He did things I could never do and it’s probably for the best that I don’t even try. Maybe that’s the reason his shoes don’t fit. I’m not him and that’s the man he wanted me to be.

Vice President and General Counsel, INVISTA Age: 39. Place of birth: Jacksonville, N.C. Spouse: Dara Geoffroy. Children: Hannah, 12; Ellie, 9; Bryer, 6; Whit, 3. Where do you live? Best business advice for others: Take profitable risks, be intellectually honest with yourself, and leverage the knowledge and skills of your team. Focus on the long-term objective and don’t worry about who gets credit. Mentor: My parents, Jeff and Mary Ellen, taught me hard work, commitment, humility, and loyalty. They always supported me, and helped me learn from my mistakes. Favorite book: “The Killer Angels,” by Michael Shaara; All of Tom Clancy’s books with Jack Ryan or John Clark. On my 21st birthday I... plead the 5th. Morning person or night owl? Night owl. But with four young kids, I’m learning to become a morning person, too. What is the farthest you’ve traveled from Wichita? China, Singapore and India. What is your dream vacation? Anywhere with my family that has big beaches, big boats, and big fish.

ASSIDUOUS

I brought a football because the sport of football has played a big role in my life. I learned that hard work, determination, focus, leadership and being a good teammate translate well into professional life. Football also paid for my college education. And most importantly, if it were not for my football scholarship, I would not have met my wife at the University of Richmond. Go Spiders!

Live Aloha.

PASSIONATE

I chose to bring a Rubik’s Cube. It was invented the year I was born, 1974, by a professor. It represents that I am always up for a good challenge, that I am a problem-solver, and I have a colorful personality. It also represents my patience. One time I was working with a client and I asked him to describe his life. He said he was like a messed up Rubik’s cube that never seemed to get put back together. Every twist made solving his problems more difficult. I thought it was a beautiful analogy. For myself, I am not trying to solve every problem. But I enjoy working through challenges and appreciate all of the differences that exist around us.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home…a school…a team. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you...” — “Attitude” by Charles Swindoll.

Golf is an activity I took up after college and is something I do with colleagues as well as for recreation. Overall, even though I am busy with work, these outings have been a way for me through years to stay close with those I care about and build new relationships.

CURIOUS

The Launch Laser is a baseball and softball training product that I invented for my son. He was struggling with the fundamental mechanics of a good swing and I knew if I could create a visual aid that I could simplify the process for him so he could build his confidence. The Launch Laser is a visual training aid that attaches to the knob of a bat, projecting a laser as a reference point on the ground. It helps break down the steps of loading into the launch position and instructing proper swing path and mechanics. You can learn more about Launch Laser at www.launchlaser.com.

My basketball- The game of basketball was very much a part of my life as a child and even now into my adult years. I was blessed with many opportunities because of this sport. My father also taught me so much with the game of basketball. He coached me for many years before middle and high school. He always said the game of basketball will teach you patience, how to work with a team, dedication and work ethic. To perfect your craft, you must practice and invest your heart and soul. My father passed away on Thanksgiving 2007 and I still use those words of wisdom in my life today.

PERSEVERANT

I chose a smiley face balloon and my clarinet to represent humor and music, both of which have gotten me through a lot of “rough patches” in life. I can appreciate most any genre of music from polkas to pop/rock and I am usually humming some song (which probably drives my co-workers nuts!). And you can never go wrong with a good joke!

Procurement Manager, Cargill Age: 39. Place of birth: Louisville, Ky. Where do you live? Mulvane. First job? I started working in 6th grade, at my grade school (St. Elizabeth’s) in Louisville, Kentucky. To say the least, it’s a party!

DYNAMIC

I brought the 3 things that represent my fun time passions. My Mathews Bow, My University of Kentucky Hall of Fame Induction Plaque and my favorite Rodeo Buckle I won. As for the Mathews, I am an avid bow hunter and if you have never watched a Kansas sunrise and listened to all of God’s creatures welcome in a new day from a tree stand, then, you just won’t understand. Outside of hunting, rugby and rodeo have had a major influence in my life. So, to represent these two great sports, I proudly display my U of K Rugby Hall of Fame Induction award and my favorite rodeo (steer wrestling) buckle I won for first place here in Kansas.

Public Relations Society of America-Kansas Chapter; Wichita Professional Communicators; Kansas Professional Communicators; Wichita Jayhawks-KU Alumni Association Chapter. ENERGETIC

I love art, but I’m not very artistic. I can’t draw a good stick figure or even a straight line but my art teacher once asked, “what’s so great about a straight line?” I chose a gold frame, typically found in art museums or art galleries, because although I don’t have much artistic talent, I appreciate art, whether it’s a painting, a photograph, a print, a sculpture. Art is all around us, it moves us, it makes us human. “Because the earth without art is just…eh.”
