Celebrating Forty Years of God’s Faithfulness
WORLD HORIZONS
Celebrating 40 Years of International Ministry We are a global community of more than 400 members drawn from nearly 40 nations and serving in nearly 40 nations. We are a prayer-based, prophetic, pioneering, and pastoral mission movement focused on some of the world’s least-reached communities. As we celebrate 40 years it is our continued desire to serve on behalf of those not yet prayed for, workers not yet sent, and churches not yet established. Since the 1990s World Horizons USA has been sending and supporting team members to serve with World Horizons’ international teams and projects. During those years several specific focuses have developed. France, the African Sahel, the Eastern Mediterranean and Central Asia have been among them. In addition, newer projects such as Al Massira, Business as Mission and the Liverpool Bridge2 Center, and the support of our Venezuelan colleagues have been emphasized. As we celebrate what God has done, we present this portfolio of ministries to share our story and our gratitude. “The light of Christ keeps shining in the dark, and the darkness has never put it out.” – John 1:5 (CEV)

As we celebrate forty years of international ministry, we want to thank you for your support. 40 Years of Testimony
Entering our fifth decade World Horizons will continue to recruit, train, send, and support pioneers from the nations to the nations for ministries that include church planting, business, arts, schools, adventure, compassion, mission training, and the development of emerging mission movements. We invite you to look through this portfolio and get a glimpse of the scope of our work. As you do so, please pray for the men, women, and children around the world who live beyond the present reach of good news. Ask the Lord to use these projects to demonstrate His compassion and create opportunities for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Big Bidache House World Horizons was established in France in 1982. Evangelism, Discipleship and Church-planting activities have always been a part of the ministry. Over the last decade ministry has been established in the South-West, in the Basque region, an area still considered under-evangelized. The Huguet family have lived in the village of Bidache for six years. Over 800 people have passed through their home for one reason or another. Phil and I both love hospitality, writes Helen, In God’s timing we came across a big house, in a Basque village. As a mom of four, my time and attention is always pulled in different directions. So, instead of being called away from the home, we have decided to open it
up so that others can come and be at home with us. That way everyone, even the kids, can participate in the calling of our family. The focus of the Big Bidache House is fourfold: HOME, representing four values: Hospitality, Opportunity, Missions and Encouragement. The pandemic slowed life down, but did not remove Opportunities. Instead of Thanksgiving dinner for sixty, the family delivered Hospitality bags as an Encouragement to the community. At Christmas delivering cookies to the local authorities and shop-workers became the Mission. Helen concludes: When I first came to the Basque country, I had a vision of a harbor. Boats come to be restored or restocked. Some come for refuge and others for a quick visit. I like to see our house in that way.

Surf Church, Hossegor
Powell and Audrey Harrison live in Hossegor. They pastor Surf Church, an outreach to the transient surfing community of the South-West. For several years they endeavored to start small groups within the congregation. Using Discovery Bible Study, the format was switched and within weeks was seeing fruit. One of Powell’s students started attending a small group and was soon participating in discussion, putting biblical truth into practice in her life, and returning with a good report. The Harrisons trained others in Surf Church to use the DBS method and quickly launched three new online groups. Their community went from one group to four using this inductive study. In 2018 Audrey and others published the Surf Bible, containing testimonies from Christian surfers. One of the Bibles reached a surfer who lived nearby. Over the years following the failure of his surf school his life had descended into substance abuse. He read the testimonies of Jesus changing lives and called Surf Church not knowing the Harrisons had anything to do with the publication of the Surf Bible. During a pandemic lockdown Powell connected him with one of the Discovery groups. He has now been faithfully connecting with the group for months, getting off drugs, and more recently stating that he needs to be baptized. Discipleship is taking place through the small group context. www.worldhorizonsusa.org

Church Planting
Journeying south across Africa’s Sahara Desert World Horizons’ teams have pioneered in the Sahel region since the late 1980s. Fruitful ministries have been established with a focus on proclaiming Christ among least-reached tribal groups such as the Fulani, Tuareg, and Dzerma. PROJECT JAVELIN is a mobile outreach team first established in 1988 and relaunched in 2013. Its goal is to share the gospel in rural areas where there is no church. Pastor Jonas, the team leader writes: In each village or town we saw a good response to the gospel, with usually hundreds of people attending the evening open air meetings. Many heard the good news for the first time and many commitments to Christ were made during each week. Five new churches were started in 2019. Another church-planting initiative is The EKIBALA PROJECT, deriving its name from the Greek word Ekballo, meaning to send out. The project supports pastors to plant churches in a specific region. Over twelve years despite Islamist militancy more than 60 churches have been birthed, with more than 1,200 new believers. In addition to supporting church-planters with a basic stipend, motorcycles have been provided to assist evangelists to visit multiple villages.

Development
World Horizons’ work is not solely planting church through proclamation. Other ministries help to develop communities. The ACACIA PARTNERSHIP is focused on the Fulani, a nomadic and cattle-herding people. Acacia works through local believers to take God’s blessing to their communities, through education, clean water, dental care, and other expressions of the love of Christ. A local pastor reported: Among the refugees, there are two who have trusted Christ, because they saw the Christians were persecuted, killed, and driven away, but still were helping their Muslim neighbors. Seeing the power of God and the compassion of the Christians, they have converted. Meanwhile, the ANURA SCHOOL serves one of the major cities of the Sahel. It has provided elementary education since the early 2000s and serves over 350 children, mostly from families living below the poverty line. The goal is to witness to Christ through a quality, low-cost Christian education, providing a transformative environment for children. A clinic provides first aid in cases of accidents, conducts malaria testing and provides ultrasound services. Additionally, the school is the only elementary school in the nation to have a library.

Many people have come … some in hardship, others searching; some for a new start or to be listened to; some to strengthen faith, and others to encounter faith for the first time.
One day I asked a mother if I could pray for her sick daughter. I started praying and the fever left. The child opened her eyes, jumped from her mother’s arms and started running around.
A boy named Ismael had his sight healed after his parents brought him to our prayer meetings. Many of our students have decided to follow the Jesus way when we share at school.

I had become a believer before joining the group studying the Bible but I didn’t know anything about my faith until now. Now I understand how to live my life with Christ.

Refuge
As Syria descended into the chaos of civil war under the activities of Islamic State, refugees from Muslim, Yezidi and Orthodox Christian background poured across the borders. There are presently over four million refugees in the nation. As our team was seeking ways to welcome and serve those who are suffering, the Lord sent two Arab believers who have become part of our community, leading the Refuge ministry. They currently lead regular Bible studies in four provinces, maintaining a consistent discipleship relationship with over one hundred families. The ministry also helps with medication, furniture and other needs of refugee families while organizing skills training, trauma counseling and teaching conferences. Together they are helping to provide hope and future for some of those who have suffered so much in the Middle East. One woman was born to Assyrian Orthodox parents in Iraq but converted to Islam when she married a Muslim man. Later, after her husband died and she fled her homeland, she came to the church looking for relief aid. She joined a discipleship group, and now both she and her daughter have found true faith in Christ and been baptized.

Nafanayl
World Horizons has been discipling national believers and training them for ministry in the Turkic world since 2007. Nafanayl (named for Jesus’ disciple Nathanael) is a six-month monastic and missional ministry training program, in one of the Central Asian Republics. It is training nationals for ministry in the Muslim World. Students from the region and beyond gather as a community, dedicating themselves to a transformed way of living so that they can impact the world. They live out a commitment to God and to one another in an environment that encourages students to grow in knowledge, experience, and character. Katya testifies: I came to Nafanayl with a bunch of garbage in my head. I was depressed and I just wanted to cry when I arrived. I noticed that I was nasty and no different from some people in the Old Testament. I had an outburst because I could not understand why God decided to redeem such vile creatures as us. But now God is transforming me, using the Spiritual Formation classes. I wanted to change myself but only made it worse. Now I am resting and giving everything into God’s hands and I feel His peace.

New ministries have emerged over the last decade. Al Massira, Venezuela to the Nations, and Bridge2 in Liverpool have all grown with significant support from World Horizons USA.
Al Massira
The mission of Al Massira Is to help every believer to share the Gospel with those with least opportunity to know Christ. Through a thirteen-part docufilm it demonstrates the relational character of the true and living God by motivating, training and resourcing both churches and individuals. The name Al Massira is of Arab origin conveying the idea of a journey together with friends. The resource, available in over thirty languages, provides a valuable tool for a group of people to learn Good News together. Over the last 10 years more than 13,000 people have been trained in over sixty-five nations to share their faith. We estimate that over 30,000 people have attended Al Massira groups to learn more about Jesus and his message to mankind.
Venezuela to the Nations
World Horizons has been training Venezuelans for mission service for thirty years. Venezuela to the Nations began in 2018 to support these missionaries to serve among least-reached peoples. Joel A. the program coordinator writes: Due to economic collapse in Venezuela our team members were unable to raise funds locally. Our frustration at seeing this army of Gospel carriers held back led us to prayer. God gave us a strategy to send them to the harvest fields by fund-raising outside of Venezuela on their behalf. We hosted bake sales, made t-shirts, and put on special dinners. As we worked and prayed, the Lord brought the money in. So far, we have been able to send out five Venezuelans. As the Lord provides we will send more.
Bridge2 Center
Liverpool, UK, was a global gateway city long before its European Capital of Culture status in 2008, but its wealth and influence resulted from dark times. The Bridge2 Center is a place for transformation, serving the world’s marginalized. Our team has been working with asylum seekers and refugees since starting an English language program in 2015. Growing from this simple work is a hub of business skills training, art projects and compassion ministry that serves the newcomer and the local community. An Iranian woman who fled persecution was one of our first English students. Today she has a passion to walk with those who also have fled their homes; after experiencing God she has become an integral part of the team.

Mozaik Cultural Center
World Horizons continues to pioneer into our fifth decade. In a city in the Middle East live 1.7 million young people and students. More than 95% have grown up in Muslim homes with no exposure to the Gospel. Many are now searching and exploring Christianity. The Cultural Arts Center is partnered with the local church to create a downtown community around the arts, establishing space for interaction between believers and nonbelievers on the topics of creativity, culture, and spirituality. A permanent location is planned for 2022 hosting activities such as art and craft workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions and English conversation clubs. A fine arts graduate was drawn to research Christianity. On visiting the church, he was moved to tears by the prayers. As he began taking baptism lessons, his wife was so struck by the change in him that she also accepted Christ. Meanwhile, a woman visited, bringing with her a handmade mosaic of Jesus that she had created. She had traveled several hours from her hometown, where no church existed, because she had learned of the nation’s Christian heritage. Although raised Muslim, she felt compelled to “give something back” by forming a cultural connection with Christianity. She donated the mosaic to us, accepted a Bible and later gave a second mosaic to the church.
