SPRING BANQUETS 3

NEW YEAR NEW MEMBERS

Colorguard welcomed nearly everyone who auditioned, accepting 56 of the 65 students. Clinics ran Monday through Wednesday, where students separated into groups of three and practiced a 30 second routine that the seniors arranged. “In the beginning, I was [trying out] for my friend, the second [day] it turned out to be very fun and on the third, I turned out to be doing it for myself,” said freshman AAYA AHMED. “I like that I don’t have to be good at a certain thing to particularly try out for it.” “Whether I did a million mistakes or zero mistakes, I just gave it my all and smiled.” With the team doubled compared to this year’s 28 members, colorguard hopes to emphasize the importance of cooperation and unity. “Without team bonding or friendship we wouldn’t even be a team ’colorguard’. We would be strangers, so in order to not become strangers we would need to bond lots more next year since we have 56 members,” said returning sophomore SHARON KIM.

Colorguard held their annual tryouts, but this year, they accepted twice the number of members this year. Each member learned a new routine and performed it for the audition.

Publications, JV boys’ basketball, and V boys’ soccer held their annual banquet, seeing everyone for the last time before the seniors leave. It’s that time of the year again--members come together to celebrate, make memories and say goodbye to the seniors. While at the publications banquet, freshman JEFFREY TRAN took the time to appreciate the seniors. “I really enjoyed going to the Publications banquet because it was an exciting night to celebrate all our hard work and accomplishments of the year,” said Tran. “After leaving, I really realized how much I’m going to miss the seniors. I’ve had such a privilege to get to know them and especially learn from them. The seniors have inspired me to continue to strive in Publications. Whether I see amazing columns written or a creative design made, it pushes me to become more like them.” The soccer team’s banquet gave sophomore BOBBY TAFOYA a chance to reflect on the season and himself, giving him motivation to do better next year. “I really want to end the season better than I did this year, because towards the end when we were starting to lose more games than we had

been, it didn’t look too good for CIF. Much like the rest of the team, I gave up and didn’t really fight for that last spot in CIF, and we really should have,” said Tafoya. “I really should have kept on trying harder, and it showed because even the last two games I didn’t play. Next year, I really want to end the season stronger, as strong as I did at the start of the season.” Despite losing the seniors, freshman BRANDON KOAY believes that the basketball teams will be able to carry on and win. “[The seniors] are a talented group, and I wish them the best, but we can do it without them. But, we’re gonna miss them,” said Koay. “The basketball team will definitely lose a lot in size. It’ll be like a revamp of everything since there’s a bunch of seniors leaving. It’s definitely going to be a change on the team, but we’ll make adjustments. Our teamwork and our leadership has to be better. All our leaders just left, but we’re going to regroup. We’re going to get back on to it, and we’re going to win again.”

“I only use blue pens. It’s my favorite color. Also, it adds color to my paper, which makes it easier to study.”

4 Junior CINDY LO presents at the informational Robotics meeting in order to recruit new members for the next year. “We talked about who we were, what we did, and what awards we won. We’re not that well known for people to just know who we are and this meeting will hopefully interest them in joining,” said Lo. 5 During her solo performance for “Limitless,” dance captian senior HILLARY TANG dances to “Pretty Hurts” by Beyonce. “I feel invincible and passionate each time I express my sentiment in my solo,” said Tang.
