Strengthening Leadership Through Practice A Whole Communities Workshop “It’s essential that we understand that taking care of the planet will be done as we take care of ourselves. You know that you can’t really make much of a difference in things until you change yourself”. Alice Walker

As part of our ongoing commitment to deepen the Whole Thinking experience and learning for our alumnae/i and their colleagues in the environmental and social change fields, Center for Whole Communities is offering a 4-day intensive program this summer highlighting awareness practice as a fundamental tool for building leadership capacity. Led by faculty member and Vipassana teacher Jesse Vega-Frey and CWC executive director Ginny McGinn, this program will provide participants with extensive guided sitting and walking meditation periods. There will be also structured and unstructured time for reflection, alone and with others, each day as well as teachings and dialogue practice to explore the connection between our capacity to lead, and our own mindful presence. The mindfulness practice that will be offered is intended to provide a foundation for deeper understanding of the interrelated patterns of mind, heart, and body. It is within these complex patterns that we often find our particular genius in leadership as well as our pitfalls and challenges all of which affect the integrity of our personal and strategic partnerships as well as our own capacity for happiness. The method offered is one in which we seek to understand these patterns - not just change or manipulate them based on our preferences - and through this kind-hearted and diligent investigation develop more wisdom and compassion in relationship to our life and the lives of others.

What form of leadership is being required of us today? How might we strengthen our capacity to take risks, to overcome obstacles, and to change the habits of mind that keep us stuck? The program is appropriate for individuals with any level of experience with awareness practice and requires only the desire to build your capacity for meditation and be in community with other people interested in the inner-workings of leadership.
