Looking for a fun way to network with local businesses and secure new leads? Join the Whittier Chamber at the Shop Local Showcase on Wednesday, July 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Whittwood Town Center. All community members are invited to come stroll through this free outdoor table-top expo and network with businesses from both the Chamber and the Whittwood Mall. “Last year’s Fall Business Showcase was a huge success with over 50 vendors participating and 500 guests in attendance,” stated Chamber Chairwoman Bonnie Watje of ACRO Printing, Inc. “We think moving the event to the summer and incorporating more community services will surely make this one of the biggest local events of the summer. Whether you are a business person or a resident, this is one community event you do not want to miss!” The Whittwood Town Center, with its ample parking, central location, awesome food court and fabulous shops, is the perfect location for the Shop Local Showcase. The event is set to take place in the parking lot between Sears and 24 Hr. Fitness. Participating in the Shop Local Showcase is simple!

1) Decide what type of table you want to reserve: a. $110 - table, 2 chairs, linen and table top sign b. $160 - table, 2 chairs, linen, table top sign and canopy 2) Reserve your table by calling the Chamber office at (562) 698-9554 or by visiting the Chamber Mall at www.whittierchamber.com 3) Start designing your table by putting together marketing materials and products that “showcase” your business… don’t forget to include a plan to collect contact information from interested customers and clients 4) Invite clients, employees and friends to visit your table at the Shop Local Showcase, which is free and open to the public The Shop Local Showcase is a perfect venue to brand your business to the community while promoting your goods and services. Summer concert series offers music under the stars Whittier’s ever-popular Summer Concerts in the Park series will begin in July. A wonderful variety of musical entertainment, designed to appeal to all ages and musical tastes, is scheduled to begin Monday, July 9. Concerts will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, July 9 through August 13 at Central Park, located at the corner of Washington Avenue and Bailey Street in Uptown Whittier, and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, July 12 through August 16 at Parnell Park, 15390 Lambert Road. The free concerts are sponsored by the Whittier Cultural Arts and Parks & Recreation Commissions, Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. Seating is festival-style and concertgoers may bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfort while they enjoy music under the stars. Those attending

the concerts are reminded that pets, barbeques and alcoholic beverages are not allowed. This year’s concert schedule includes returning favorites, as well as several new acts. “This year’s summer concerts truly offer something for everyone,” said Fran Shields, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services. “Don’t let this summer pass by without spending an evening picnicking in the park with family and friends while listening to quality musical entertainment. Better yet,

Majority Leader Charles Calderon recently named Whittier Chamber member The Traveling Traveler Business of the Year for the 58th Assembly District. Calderon’s Field Representative Mike Hollan presented a certificate to owner and Whittier Chamber Board member Gary Lee Martinez, who will be celebrating 20 years in business later this month, during the Chamber’s recent Wake Up Whittier networking breakfast.
