Hi there! My name is Whitney and I’d like to thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio. My projects consist of mixed media, experimental techniques, physical and digital finishes. Four of my projects were created in uni and some I continued to develop after I finished my studies.
I have three years experience as an in-house Artworker. I have included some of my work in the final pages of my digital portfolio. Within both of these roles as an Artworker I have followed brand guidelines, liaison with marketing teams and developed ideas amongst the design/artwork team. I learnt a wide range of skills within both role and I continue to expand my skills further.
This is just a small amount of information about me but I have a lot to offer. I enjoy experimenting with different mediums, bringing new concepts to the table, doing in-depth researching and learning how to promote a message successfully to the target audience.
Again thank you again for take the time!
THE N WORD
An historical editorial mixed media concertina, that displays the connection between the use of the N word and how it has developed along with African-American history.
Creative process;
The idea behind this project was to highlight the evolution of the N word and to highlight, how it’s coexisted alongside racism within America. I wanted to inform my classmates on a different angle within history. It also gave me a chance to research more into my ethnic identity. I would go onto explore this further in my dissertation.
The imagery used was build up of, historical posters or newspaper articles. I wanted to take the time to experiment with collage and present the images in my own way.
Along with this editorial publication it is accompanied by an audio tape and typography posters that mirror the evolution of the N word.
ACID SURVIVORS UK
Highlighting identity but from a survivors productive. As a result, acid attacks have such a great impact on peoples lives that the idea was to create more of a positive message using typography & imagery.
Creative Process;
When researching this project, I found that; Many of the survivors felt like their identities were lost and didn’t recognises themselves. I wanted to create something positive by distort negative words using water marks.
Along with three posters and leaflet, a website was build to go alongside the project.
ALBERTA SICKLE CELL FOUNDATION
A re-brand for a sickle cell charity. As sickle cell isn’t hugely known, the branding and promotional items were created to brig awareness to the disease and the charity.
Creative Process;
I selected to re-brand a sickle charity as I wanted to bring more awareness too the disease. The thought process behind the imagery was to create something bold but clean without relaying heavily on photographs.
DISABILITY ACCESS
A charity sub-brand for Disability Right UK. The editorials act as small field guides to inform people about every day issues that might be overlooked by the general public, i.e. bathroom access or doorway access for someone that might have a larger wheelchair.
I spent time experimenting with the imagery in Photo-shop and layering. While doing this project, I also experimented with a screen printing technique.
Creative Process;
In-House Design
These are examples of in-house projects from my previous employers and a lot of these ideas were finalised by the marketing teams.
These designs were created for a few of the exhibition shows and were agreed by those marketing teams at the time. I found a healthy balance between communicating with the teams and designing want they wanted.

In-House Design

Creative Process;
My in-house designs were my first projects after leaving the University of Plymouth and for me it was all about following directions and adding some creative input.
Artwork Packaging
These are examples of in-house packaging designs that I was apart of. I’ve also provided a break down of the layers to build the artwork.
Creative Process;
Following any changes that might have been requested from the quality analyst team, a PDF would be annotated and then sent back to me. Once further changes were made by me, a PDF was then sent back to a quality analyst team. After all further checks were completed, it would go to the client to confirm the final approval and then sent to the printers.
Creative Process;
Layout for a lot of the e-cigarettes followed an overall template and was approved by the creative artworker of the team or the project manager, this would follow with an approval message.
The above image was sent back to me because the colour (indicated in red) on one of the varnish layer wasn’t flooding all of the areas of the layer. This would mean e that the image would not print correctly.
CHANGE: A layer with the Pantone missing was applied on top and the opacity was brought down to 1% . This meant it is picked up when going to print.

Logo update to fit space
The above changes that were made for the artwork were; updated image from retouch, breaking automation link to make BOP improvements and changes to FOP text.
This is an example of a brief I received from the project manager. The changes were made on the above image to bleed the black bar to meet the cutter. It gives an example of how small techniques were solved.
