I’d like to take this moment and opportunity to welcome you to the inaugural issue of Unique Quarterly. This new and original publication of The Keir Weimer Team of Select Sotheby’s International Realty, was born out of a deep appreciation for the character of this region, and an anxious desire to share this enthusiasm with the world.

Adirondack Winters

By Kristin Dowling Every Adirondack season offers special opportunities and events for all to enjoy. As each season ends, our communities quickly prepare for the next. Many people hold a special love for the winter season and look forward to it all year long.

With its beloved holidays and long school breaks, Winter allows families to pause their day-to-day lives and spend quality time together. Old Forge and the surrounding communities accommodate winter visitors and families with fun, creative, and memorable events.

Old Forge Of course, one of Old Forge’s main attractions is snowmobiling! Every winter, thousands of snowmobile enthusiasts flock to the area to explore its hundreds of miles of pristine trails. Riders and their families glide across beautifully groomed trails, visit their favorite local restaurants, and gather at local bars.

For many Adirondack snowmobilers, winter is the best season of the year. These folks count down the days until the trails open. They check the weather every hour and monitor trail conditions. They relish the first snowfall, the first ride of the season, and the excitement of every bend in the trail.

Every year at this time, Adirondack snowmobilers reconnect with their “winter friends.” They return year after year, but not just for the area’s beautiful vistas and endless miles of adventure. Our visitors return because of the connections they have forged with kindred spirits over years of winter fun!

Old McCauly Mountain Those who don’t prefer snowmobiling enjoy plenty of other activities in Old Forge! This area boasts its very own ski haven, McCauly Mountain. This perpetual local favorite attracts skiers and snowboarders from across the globe with its reasonable rates and breathtaking views.

In addition to natural snowfall, McCauley’s snowmaking and grooming experts create over 100 days of exceptional skiing conditions each year. The area surrounding the mountain offers pristine and delightful cross-country skiing trails.

Adirondack Winters Adirondack Winter Events As the weather gets colder and the winter anticipation grows, our Adirondack communities plan for many traditional winter events. On Thanksgiving weekend, we kicked off the season with our annual Christmas on Main Street event. Visitors enjoy old fashioned horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, caroling, tree lightings, a light parade, the Zoo Mobile, the Moose River farm animals, a book signing, and—of course—pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Christmas on Main Street supports local businesses, puts smiles on faces, and gets everyone into the holiday spirit.

Other winter favorites in Old Forge include Snodeo, which celebrates the opening of the trail system and the snowmobile season. The traditional Winter Carnival celebration takes place at McCauley Mountain and features night skiing and a snow castle competition. In the cozy, nearby lodge, you can enjoy a hearty dinner, cocktails, and live music. The annual Ice Bowl takes place on Fourth Lake and includes a 3-day competitive hockey tournament! Teams from across the region gather to compete for the championship at this thrilling weekend event.

No matter when you visit the Old Forge area, you’ll find weekend winter events that promote community bonding and celebrate winter activities. We look forward to seeing you this season!

North Creek Comes Alive in Winter
