TEDDIES FOR DONATION ‘IN TUNE’ WITH SCHOOL MUSIC DEPARTMENT’S NEEDS LOVING CARE Further presentations of certificates and cheques to mark the 100,00 teddies distributed under the Teddies For Loving Care Scheme have been made in Barnsley and Huddersfield.

Brethren of Forest of Knaresborough Masonic Lodge No 7452 have shown they are ‘in tune’ with the needs of the community by presenting King James’ School with £1,000 to buy new musical instruments. Members learned of the need for new instruments when the school choir led a Christmas carol concert after the Lodge’s December meeting. So impressed were the Lodge members with the young singers, that they asked music teacher, Rachel Derbyshire, if there was anything they could do to help support the school’s music department. In response to a plea for help buying new musical instruments, the Lodge applied for a grant of £1,000 from the PGM’s Fund. Steve Arthington, Master of Forest of Knaresborough Lodge, said, “Freemasonry is at the heart of many local communities and Knaresborough is a classic example of this. We are delighted to be able to support King James’s School in the purchase of new musical instruments which will benefit many pupils over the coming years. Rachel and the students gave up their own time late one December evening and professionally entertained us with traditional and contemporary musical pieces, demonstrating skill and a lot of hard work. They performed with confidence and ability and the good news is that have agreed to come back again.” •Pictured (l to r) are Steve Arthington, Master, Marie Quemerais, student, Philip Angel, Forest of Knaresborough Lodge, Rachel Derbyshire, music teacher and Carl Sugden, King James’s Head Teacher.

LESSONS AT KIRKBURTON SCHOOL GET MORE EXCITING Lessons at a Kirklees school have become more exciting, thanks to the Provincial Grand Master’s Fund. The Beaumont Lodge No 2035, which meets in Kirkburton, successfully applied to the PGM’s Fund for a grant of £1,300 to help with the purchase of hitech teaching equipment for Kirkburton First School. The school, which is more than 300 years old and has 139 pupils aged between four and ten, has recently been extended thanks to a successful £30,000 fund-raising drive and this additional money has been used to buy an electronic white board. Malcolm Hellawell, Master of Beaumont Lodge said, “This is a much-loved school at the very heart of the community and we are delighted that our application for funding was successful.” Kirkburton First School head teacher, Trisha Brooke said, “I would like to say a big thank you to the members of the Beaumont Lodge for nominating us for this grant. We are very lucky to have this wonderful new extension, and the money from the Freemasons will be used to help us buy computer equipment which will greatly assist our teachers and pupils in their lessons.” Pic: Head teacher Trisha Brooke and members of the school council with Malcolm Hellawell and Alan Pridmore.
