NO REST FOR FORMER RULER

Having retired from the office of Assistant PGM, one might have expected D Stuart Cummins to enjoy a bit of a break from front-line Masonry. Not so, as just a month prior to his retirement Stuart was Installed as First Principal of St. Laurence Chapter No 2330, Pudsey. The Convocation was very well attended, there being present a total of 56 Companions, and was honoured by the presence of the Deputy Grand Superintendent, James S Gray. In addition, Stuart enjoyed the support of colleagues amongst the Rulers of the Craft, in the persons of the RW Provincial Grand Master, David S Pratt; Deputy PGM, John Rushworth and Assistant PGM, Anthony W Llewellyn. • Pictured (l to r) are: James S Gray, Deputy Grand Superintendent, with the three Principals; J B Howe (H), D. SECOND 60-YEAR JUBILEE CERTIFICATE Roy Malcolm Wellock last year celebrated sixty years as a member of Craft Masonry, as reported in the Autumn edition of White Rose Masonic News. January this year marked sixty years since Roy was Exalted into Connaught Chapter No 1018, Otley and at a meeting of the Chapter in February, Roy was joined by over sixty Companions for an evening of celebration at Westbourne House. The ME Grand Superintendent Stewart G Carley discussed with Roy his time as a Royal Arch Mason, before presenting him with a 60-year Jubilee Certificate. Roy’s masonic career has seen many achievements, one of which was serving from 1983 to 1998 as Provincial Grand Secretary / Scribe E and he was promoted to Past Assistant Grand Sojourner in Supreme Grand Chapter in 1999. ROBERT BOWS OUT WITH A BIG SURPRISE

The February meeting of Harrogate and Claro Lodge No 1001 was a special occasion for Robert W Bowhill PJGD, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies. Robert, who retired as ProvGDC at the Provincial Meeting after six years dedicated service, had been persuaded to take the Chair for a Passing Ceremony and unbeknown to him, the Provincial Rulers; Senior Officers; Deputy DCs and ADCs who had worked with Robert during his years in office, had been invited to acknowledge his impending retirement. The Provincial Grand Master, David S Pratt having sent his apologies, the gavel was offered by the Master, Ernie Heron-Taylor, to John B Gledhill APGM who declined it graciously. However, no sooner had Robert taken the Chair to conduct the ceremony, there was a Report and to Robert’s surprise, the PGM was announced and he joined the Brethren to witness Robert conduct an impeccable ceremony in which Ashley George Thompson was Passed in true style. In the bar and at the festive board which followed, Robert’s colleagues were able to wish him well in his retirement and to thank him for the support he had given them over the last six years. • Photo (l to r) Gary Clark DepProvGDC, Robert Bowhill ProvGDC, David S Pratt PGM and Mark Croft DepProvGDC.
