Lascaux Caves Paintings

The Lascaux caves painting had a huge influence on the designs of Dior’s 2018 Resort Collection. The Lascaux Caves Paintings are estimated to be up to 20,000 years old cave paintings, found in a complex of caves in the Dordogne region of southwestern France. Maria Grazia Chiuri discovered that Christian Dior was fascinated by Lascaux; his Ovale collection of 1951 featured prints inspired by the paintings. Chiuri riffed on the idea in her own way, she printed on different materials and gave realistic touch on the design as well as mysterious mood.

The Motherpeace Tarot

Tarot card was also one of key look in the Dior’s resort collection 2018, as unspoken message. Tarot images used for a design are called “Motherpeace tarot” and it’s a feminist deck departs from traditional Tarot imagery by featuring just a few male figures. By using tarot cards from the Motherpeace deck, she emphasise her idea of “feminist” through visual metaphor of the concept behind her collection.

GShe studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York, where she learned the techniques of traditional painting. The direction of her artistic practice shifted dramatically four years later when she studied the revolutionary ideas of Arthur Wesley Dow. Dow offered O’Keeffe an alternative to established ways of thinking about art. She experimented with abstraction for two years while she taught art in West Texas. Her look was mannish, minimalistic look and simple styled with some design influence from Traditional Korean clothing. The dresses included Chiuri’s favorite silhouette: square neckline, corseted bodice, A-line midi skirt. Those clean look could be influenced from Georgia as well as some of colour palette of black and white are relatable to Georgia. WThere were also plenty of her signature balletic, sheer embroidered gowns; some came with a sequined handprint motif, while others had primitive-looking embroideries of women and animals.
