Working in Partnership

We ensure that staff, tutors and parents work together in a way that supports your independence. There are several parent consultation evenings throughout the year to discuss progress but also to provide information about careers, higher education and financial grants.

Paid Work Opportunities

Throughout the year there will be opportunities for students to work for the school in paid employment, such as school duties and Summer School.

Sixth Form Common Room

The Sixth Form Common Room has been designed by students as a place to socialise, relax and allow group discussion. There is also a designated area only for Sixth Form students in the Hub canteen.

Supervised Sixth Form Study Area

Each directed study session is staffed by qualified teachers who support students during these sessions. Students find that they ask staff to support through discussions on essay structure, time management, revision plans, revision strategies and research skills. The study area also has computer access during term time from 7.00am to 6.00pm.

Library

The library has an extensive collection of literature, textbooks and research material available. Students can use the library for group and individual study, and there is a quiet space for those looking for a peaceful place to work or read. Clubs taking place throughout the week range from Chess Club to Manga Club, and can help students take a break from the rigours of study. Sixth Form students looking to increase their work experience are encouraged to volunteer in the library running clubs and programmes, helping younger students develop their language skills by assisting in Library Lessons, and performing the day-to-day tasks that help the library run smoothly.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

There are various leadership opportunities available to students in the Sixth Form at Clarion. We have a successful Sixth Form Leadership Team made up of Chair, Vice-chair and Secretary. The Leadership Team are also part of the Student Voice (School Council) team at Clarion, meeting regularly to discuss the students’ views on how to make the school an even better place to study.

The Leadership Team work closely together on projects and events around the school. This includes being tour guides for Open Evening, weekend and holiday events, such as the Year 7 Welcome Evening and school shows. They also assist with events that take place during the school day, such as the Macmillan Coffee Morning, Barnet Headteachers meeting and school fundraising events. The list is extensive and students are more than willing to give up their time to help a worthy cause. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in organising and events as well as demonstrating leadership to the wider school.

Students often join the Sixth Form bursting with ideas and Clarion Sixth Form allows them to explore these ideas and take creative risks. We are delighted to a have a group of students who are organising an Anti-Bullying scheme for younger students as well as students who are supporting students with behavioural needs.

We have recently begun a mentoring scheme with students from Year 12 mentoring students in Year 7 and 8. Year 12 students received intensive training to prepare them for this exciting and rewarding opportunity. Leadership opportunities include our volunteer program, mentor program and student-led assemblies which are all also experiences that can provide leadership accreditation. All of these fantastic opportunities can be written about in their personal statement to make them stand out from the rest.

We strive to make Clarion a better place and strongly feel that our students are at the heart of making that happen.

JOINING CLARION

After completing our Sixth Form induction day where we run workshops to support students with the tools to start their Year 12 journey in the best way possible, our new students for 2024 provided this feedback on their experience:

The teachers in my subjects have been very wonderful and welcoming, they seem to be very good in their field and are very confident in me and my whole class. I have recommended this Sixth Form to a couple friends and they are enjoying it as well.

“ “ “ “ “ “ “ “ “ “ “ “

The induction workshop was motivating and has changed my views. Insightful.

I found the workshop eye opening, allowing me to actually give a thought about what I want to achieve, also giving me motivation to manage my time so I can achieve my goals.

The workshop has also motivated me towards my goals. I have established a growth and determined mindset.

I have gained a clear understanding when it comes to where I see myself being in the future. I know exactly what I have to do to get myself to those places and stages in my life.

The workshop helped me to plan for the future and organise my thoughts and goals for the future, so I have a more clear idea of how to work towards it. It also helped with motivation for the upcoming years.
