The Lino Lakes City Council took the following action at its Jan.23 meeting: • Six fi refi ghters took the oath of public safety service. The fi refi ghters included Westley Thole, Jake Kurtz, Derek Riley and Kent Alley and Mark Hokkanen, who were all hired in 2016, as well as Paul Kartman, who was hired in 2015 and unable to attend the previous swearingin ceremony. Firefi ghters Craig Menne and Bryce Lindahl were not able to be present. • Approved the consent

agenda, including a special event permit for Snow Golf Feb. 18 and 19 at Trappers Bar and Grill. • Approved the promotion of Melissa Hagert to the rank of sergeant in the police division. On Nov. 28, the council approved the promotion of Kyle Leibel from sergeant to deputy director, which created a vacancy. The promotion will take effect Feb. 5. • Approved the hiring of police officer Connor Williams, which brings the police division to the full strength

of 27 sworn staff. Williams graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in criminal justice and currently serves as a community service officer at the airport. He will start Feb. 13. The next council work session will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 in the Community Room at City Hall, followed by the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Shannon Granholm

The Circle Pines City Council took the following action at its Jan. 24 meeting: • Heard from Mayor Dave Bartholomay, who gave an update on the Utilities Commission. He reported at the commission’s Jan. 18 meeting its members approved their budget, which included rate increases. The total gas operations are estimated to cost $253,457 compared to last year's $219,380. The fl at monthly rates increase by $.50 for water, $.50 for sewer and $1.00 for gas; the increase is due to infrastructure improvements, which accompanied the street improvements/reconstruction. • Approved the consent agenda, including past meeting minutes, licenses, fi re disbursements, general fund disbursements and police disbursements. • Appointed members to the boards and commissions. Joe Tart was

appointed to the Park Board, Steve McChesney and Craig Petska were appointed to the Planning Commission and Andy Dahl, Dave Bartholomay and Dwight Benoy were appointed to the Utilities Commission. • Approved a city/utility social media policy. The city did not have one in place previously and it was recommended the city implement one by the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT). Circle Pines currently maintains a website, and Facebook and Twitter accounts. The policy outlines rules of use, personal social media use by employees, data ownership and policy violations. The next Circle Pines City Council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at City Hall. Shannon Granholm
