Walnut Hills High School

Walnut Hills’ diversity compared to that of other local schools Allie Berding, ‘16 Avery Samuels, ‘16 The Chatterbox gathered data to compare diversity of both race and gender between Walnut Hills and other high schools in the Cincinnati area: The Summit Country Day School, Withrow University High School and Clark Montessori High School.

Walnut’s student population is more diverse than those of the other schools compared with a population that is 57% white, 30% black, 2% Asian, 1% Hispanic and 3% multiracial. It is 53% female and 47% male.

Walnut’s diversity is prevalent among its clubs and other organizations within the school. “From going to an almost all-white school growing up, Walnut is completely different…Academically you get people from all different kinds of backgrounds who often times see things differently than you do, and that lets you see things from a different perspective,” SENIOR Martin Myaka said. “[Diversity] provides a comfort knowing you can freely speak your mind without feeling like people are going to judge you for it.”
