Wheeling Park District Mission Statement

“To uphold our tradition as the provider of choice for parks and recreation in our community.”

WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP 2026!

Welcome to the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program!

This program is designed to help participants develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and job-readiness skills while gaining hands-on experience supporting camp staff and CITs.

While CITs may participate in camp activities and special events, their primary role is to learn through observation, responsibility, and hands-on support. CITs are expected to follow all camp rules and adhere to the CIT Code of Conduct, which emphasizes respect, appropriate behavior, teamwork, and safety at all times.

Please note that the CIT program is a leadership development opportunity and a privilege. CITs will be held to higher expectations than standard CITs, as their behavior directly impacts the safety, experience, and success of the camp environment.

We look forward to a positive and rewarding experience for your camper this summer. CITsPlease note that the majority of camp activities take place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, CITs will be relocated to a designated indoor space to continue activities safely. where the fun can continue safely.

Bethany Koudelka, Recreation Services Manager, oversees all day camp programs. Our Camp Director and Camp Leaders are on-site each day and are always happy to help with questions or support throughout the camp day.

GETTING READY FOR CAMP

ePACT MEDICAL/EMERGENCY PAPERWORK

We partner with ePACT to service CITs and staff. ePACT offers a health record system that allows parents to complete and store camper health information electronically. The security and privacy of health information is important to us. Families must complete all medical and emergency information electronically through ePACT prior to the start of camp.

Please note: If this information is not completed, your camper will NOT be able to attend camp. Families must reach out to ePACT directly for assistance with ePACT paperwork; guest services staff cannot assist. We recommend that all authorized adults “opt-in” to text messages on ePACT. This is how last-minute updates (such as rainy day drop-off/pick up) will be communicated

WHAT TO WEAR

Please keep in mind that CITs spend the majority of their day outside and may get messy while participating in outdoor play, water games, and projects. CITs should arrive each day wearing comfortable, durable weather-appropriate play clothing. Clothing that can be layered on and off is recommended to help CITs stay comfortable as weather conditions change. For safety reasons, CITs must wear gym shoes at all times. Crocs, sandals, and other opentoed or backless shoes are not permitted. Articles of clothing, backpacks, or other items that are determined to be offensive or disruptive may be taken away or changed based on the discretion of the Recreation Services Manager.

Each CIT receives one camp shirt with registration. CITs attending field trips must wear their WPD Camp shirt on all designated trip days. Campers may not be checked in for trip days unless they are wearing their designated camp shirt. Walkers who arrive on site without a camp shirt will be brought to the office and a guardian will be contacted. Pending inventory availability, an additional camp shirt may be purchased.
