Kents Cavern is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain’s best showcaves!
On your visit you’ll go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you’ll be surrounded by 400 million year old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites.

the cave you’ll feel the temperature at a constant 14c. Your tour guide will lead you through the Long Arcade to reveal how the caves were formed 2.5 million years ago and how stalagmite floors formed, sealing in the evidence of Ice Age occupations. It’s been a busy year at Shaldon Wildlife Trust, with lots of new animals for you to come and see! Our margay, a small cat hailing from South America, have a brandnew house so even if they’re lounging around inside, you’ll still be able to see them. If you want to see how acrobatic they can be why not come along and see their fed which is every day at 3pm.
2019 also saw the return of snakes to the zoo, with a savu python joining us. One of the smallest python species, they’re only found on a small group of islands in the Indonesian ocean.
We’ve had one of the best breeding seasons ever in our frog room, breeding 3 species of endangered frogs. From the highly toxic black-legged dart frog to the critically endangered lemur leaf frog. We also began supporting a lemur leaf frog conservation project based out in Costa Rica.
We still run our ever-popular lemur liaisons, meet the meerkats and keeper for the day experiences and have added a new one. Minibeast Madness the perfect experience for anyone you know who loves creepy crawlies. There’s no age limit for this experience so children and adults of all age can get up close with some of our smallest residents.
And don’t forget your tickets are valid all day so you can keep coming back to see our various feeding times. 11am is our lemurs and capuchins, 1pm is when our nocturnal animals including our loris and armadillos get fed and finally we have our margay and civet talk and feeds at 3pm, giving you a chance to see our Owston’s civets, one of the rarest carnivores in the world.
We have events coming up later this year too, our Halloween event is on 26th October, a Funday on 10th November and Santas Grotto 21st and 22nd December!
Home to England’s highest waterfall, descending a staggering 220ft, Canonteign Falls is a breathtaking Devon attraction, and a wonderful day out for all the family.
Canonteign Falls is a hidden gem and one of the most idyllic places to see and explore with children. Perfect for outdoor adventure, our children’s play area and children’s assault course will keep the little ones happy, and our lakeside café, snack bar and gift shop will ensure that your every need is catered for.
In the Teign Valley off of the A3193, follow the brown tourist board signs.
Situated within Dartmoor National Park in the heart of Devon’s Teign Valley, the waterfalls tumble down ancient rock formations to meet the lakes below, offering some of the most spectacular waterfall and ancient bluebell woodland scenery in Devon.
A breathtaking sight, described by one visitor as “one of the most magical places on earth ”, wildlife thrives in the peace and tranquillity that makes the Falls a haven for both adults and children. Well-marked pathways take you on three scenic walks, suitable for varying ages and abilities. Our Victorian fern garden at the top of the Falls is a magical hidden treasure of Victorian landscaping.
We have seven interconnecting lakes. The main Lily Lake has a central island with beautiful purple flowering rhododendrons and provides safe cover for the many Mallard ducks and Canada geese. Clearing of trees has been undertaken at the Falls end of the lake and visitors can now enjoy much enhanced views whilst walking around it. The six lower lakes are linked up with grassy walks and bridges. Planting combinations of fox dogwood, acers, gunnera and pampas grass provide year round texture and colour.
Taking the path leading to the wetlands and lower lakes is one of the most fascinating nature walks in Devon, giving you the opportunity to spot kingfishers, bats, butterflies, wildfowl, and dragonflies. The Canonteign bees have an idyllic corner in the old orchard where they busy away making delicious honey. Honey harvesting is done on site and our fresh honey is on the shop shelves usually within 48 hours of collection from the hives. The Pirate Ship climbing structure within the large play area offers rock hold walls, a fireman`s pole and pull up ramps or children can go below deck and create a den. So gather up your treasure chests “me hearties” and let’s set sail! You can even add to the fun with pirate hats and other related items available from our shop.
Café
Our café offers locally sourced, freshly made selection of delicious salads, open sandwiches, homemade soups and much more. We have a daily specials board with a large variety of additional fayre that always includes a vegan, vegetarian and gluten free option.
And why not enjoy a delicious latte or cappuccino made with freshly ground Italian coffee and a slice of one of our delicious homemade cakes or perhaps a traditional Devon Cream Tea after your walk?
The Gift Shop at Canonteign is situated in the original farm buildings of Canonteign Estate in what was most likely the milking parlour. This season we have a whole new range of stock showcasing unusual and imaginative gifts for all the family, many of which are made locally. These include some stunning new pottery, turned wooden gifts, ornaments, jewellery, pretty scarves and colourful bags, wooden and educational toys, gardening gifts, soaps, ornaments and our new men’s range! Our branded merchandise includes Canonteign Falls tea towels, bags, mugs and prints. We also sell Becky Bettesworth prints, and a range of chocolates, fudges, jams and chutneys from all over the West Country: delicious!

Tavistock Inn
One of England’s oldest pubs, Tavistock Inn dates back to about 1413 when Newbridge was built. The bridge was “new” when it was built- hence it’s name - and so was the pub, a welcome stop for weary travellers who had just climbed Newbridge hill. And little has changed, for good beer, wines, spirits and soft drinks, including a fine selection of real ales are still dispensed to visitors from near and far, together with some of the best pub food you’ll find in Devon with local produce being used when available.
Poundsgate, Dartmoor, TQ13 7NY. Tel: 01364 631251.

Tel: 01822 810273.

After a good night’s sleep a full English breakfast is served in the pub for only £6.50 per person.

The Globe’s life as a coach house started way back in the 1600s, and since then its role in the community hasn’t much changed. Of course, the building is now much warmer and the plumbing much more reliable, but some things just don’t change. Comforting home-cooked food comes out of the kitchen, and the two well-stocked bars all serve the finest local tipples.
9 High St, Chagford, Newton Abbot, Devon. Tel: 01647 433485.
This award-winning pub which sits at the gateway to the Moors in Bovey Tracey is a comfortable and friendly spot for beer drinking. Rooms are available, and the food here is great, but, as a village pub, the atmosphere is second to none. Log burners keep the place toasty in the colder months, and the sunny lawn is popular in summer.
Fore St, Bovey Tracey, Devon Tel: 01626 833473.
The Plume is Princetown’s oldest building, and it feels like it. But that’s not to say that that’s a bad thing. The full line-up has been announced for In Cider Festival in February 2020 and local music fans are being encouraged to jump on board. National acts featuring across the weekend include Ferocious Dog, Gaz Brookfield & The Company Of Thieves, Dakka Skanks and Holy Moly & The Crackers. The Sunday lineup will be a who’s who of local talent, with West Country favourites Mad Dog Mcrea being joined by local heroes The Leylines, Nick Parker and Irie Fire. Weston’s much loved ska act The Communicators will also be making a rare appearance to top off a great day of live music.
Full weekend tickets are priced at £175 per person and include half board chalet accommodation.
Day and weekend tickets without accommodation are available in limited numbers from just £29.
All tickets include music, meal and Bluecoat entertainment, plus use of the Pontins leisure facilities including heated indoor swimming pool.

Dorset’s small three day festival returns for its sixth successive year on the bank holiday weekend 22nd - 24th May and will see another outstanding line-up of national, and local acts entertaining the crowd at Canada Farm near Sixpenny Handley.
Live acts announced so far include ska-punk big hitters Random Hand, festival folk rockers The Leylines and local favourites Black Water County, Skimmity Hitchers and Dorset Phil. Other acts on the diverse bill include Imprints, Ghosts Of Men, Samantics, Monkey Bizzle, Headsticks and The Acrustic Badger Band. More bands are still to be confirmed, including the big Saturday night headliner.
There will also be a selection of top local DJs throughout the weekend, all held together by Wimborne’s legendary DJ and compere Dapper Dan aka the Rock ‘n’ Roll Town Crier.
Children, dogs, tent campers and live-in vehicles are all welcome to join the fun. Adult weekend tickets start at just £69 with big discounts for under 18s. Day tickets are also available in limited numbers.

The one day event is a celebration of the best in local cider and live music, with four great acts and over 20 ciders to enjoy. The festival will run over two sessions, afternoon and evening, with a discounted ticket for people wanting to attend all day.
The music line-up will please many summer festival goers, with acoustic punk favourite Gaz Brookfield headlining the afternoon session with support from local trio Cut Throat Francis. Things will get even livelier in the evening session as Bristol folkrockers Imprints warm up the crowd ready for the final act. The evening headliners Skimmity Hitchers are hugely popular on the West Country music and cider scene, and are no strangers to Komedia having supported both Mad Dog Mcrea and The Wurzels in recent months.
Advance tickets cost £6 (afternoon), £9 (evening) and £12 (all day) and are available online and in person from the Komedia box office.
Age 14+ and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Komedia with specific access requirements.
Outcider Festival, Somerset’s fabulous celebration of cider and live music, returns to Fernhill farm in the Mendips on 31st July - 2nd August boasting another great headliner in the shape of folk-punk heavyweights Ferocious Dog.
Despite a festival capacity of just 500 people, organisers Fuelled By Cider have earned an excellent reputation for strong, diverse and original lineups, and 2020’s festival will be no exception. The full-line up is currently being released but other acts so far announced alongside Ferocious Dog are Skimmity Hitchers, Riskee & The Ridicule, Jess Silk, Junior Bill, Palooka 5, The Blunders, The Strays and Monkey Bizzle.
As you might expect a large range of West Country ciders feature at the bar, which also serves ales, lager, wine and spirits. A range of catering choices offer locally sourced food to keep you nourished all weekend. There is ample tent camping in the adjoining field and livein vehicles are welcome for a small extra charge.
Please note that this is an over 18s event and no dogs or glass are allowed on site as it is a working farm
