Fiore all’occhiello della rete museale comasca, il Museo didattico della Seta, aperto nel 1990 come giusta testimonianza della storia della seta a Como, segnale tangibile di una continuità fra passato e presente di una industria che mantiene il primato rispetto al mondo intero, è una realtà vivace, impegnata in attività che mirano a far conoscere al pubblico la cultura della seta ed è parte integrante di un distretto tessile che si prepara all’importante appuntamento dell’EXPO 2015. Il Museo didattico della Seta raccoglie, custodisce, espone le testimonianze della tradizione
produttiva tessile comasca quali macchine, oggetti, documenti, campionari e strumenti di lavoro provenienti dalle lavorazioni tessili che qualificano Como città della seta. Il patrimonio tecnico ed artistico è organizzato in uno spazio didattico accessibile a tutti. L’amore e la passione per l’arte serica hanno origini antiche, consolidate grazie anche all’istruzione professionale per operatori del settore promossa, a partire dal 1866, dalla Camera di Commercio, dalla Provincia e dal Comune di Como.

One of the most imoportant museums in Como is the Silk Museum, inaugurated in 1990 as a proof of the history of silk in Como. A sign of continuity between the past and the present of an industry which is unique all over the world, a lively reality involved in activities which aim at let people know the culture of silk and an integrating part of a textile district which is ready for the important appointment of the EXPO 2015. The Silk Museum collects, keeps and exhibits
the proofs of the tradition of the textile production in Como, such as machines, objects, documents, samples and instruments. The technical and artistic heritage is organized in a didactic area accessible to everybody. The love and the passion for silk have ancient traditions, also thanks to the professional education for people working in the sector promoted since 1866 by the Chamber of Commerce by the Province of Como and by the Municipality of Como.

Anche quest’anno l’appuntamento comasco con il tennis internazionale sarà rinnovato. Dal 24 agosto al 1° settembre si svolgerà sui campi della società Tennis Como a Villa Olmo l’ottava edizione dell’ATP Tour Challenger “Città di Como”, sponsorizzato da Credito Valtellinese per la disciplina del singolo e da Bianchi Group per il doppio. L’impeccabile organizzazione, frutto del lavoro d’équipe di uno staff ormai collaudato, la splendida ubicazione del circolo sportivo e la sempre più apprezzata ospitalità nei migliori hotel cittadini richiamano ogni anno a Como tennisti di fama internazionale, per la gioia degli amanti di questo sport. 2012 ha laureato vincitore nel singolo l’austriaco Andreas Haider Maurer che ha battuto in finale il portoghese, testa di serie numero 2, Joao Sousa. Nel doppio si è affermata la coppia formata dal tedesco Philipp Marx e dal rumeno Florin Mergea che hanno battuto in un’appassionante finale l’austriaco Ebelthite e il ceco Pospisil. Il torneo ha suscitato grande entusiasmo di pubblico: 10.000 spettatori hanno partecipato all’evento (fonte dati ATP Supervisor) mentre il sito internet dell’evento ha registrato oltre 1.000.000 di contatti. Molto apprezzata è stata anche la trasmissione in streaming degli incontri (1009 connessioni registrate contemporaneamente). 30

From 24th August to 1st September on the courts of the Tennis Como club in Villa Olmo is held the 8th edition of the ATP Tour Challenger “Città di Como”, sponsored by Credito Valtellinese for the single and by Bianchi Group for the double. The impeccable organization, result of the team work, the beautiful location of the sports club and the appreciated hospitality of the best hotels of the city attract international tennis players every year and the tennis lovers are enthusiastic of this event. In 2012 the Austrian Andreas Haider Mau-
rer was the winner, he has beaten the number 2 of the classification, the Portuguese Joao Sousa. In the double, the German Philipp Marx and the Romanian Flori Mergea have beaten the Austrian Ebelthite and the Czech Pospisil in an impassioning final. The tournament brought a great enthusiasm among the public: 10.000 spectators took part in the event (data supplied by ATP Supervisor) while the Internet site of the event registered more than 1.000.000 contacts. LAGLIO, UN BORGO DA SCOPRIRE
Non sarà certo un caso se George Clooney ha scelto di trascorrere le sue giornate di quiete proprio a Laglio, un comune di circa mille abitanti situato sulla sponda occidentale del lago di Como. Saltato alla ribalta delle cronache proprio grazie alla presenza dell’attore che qui ha acquistato le ville Oleandra e Margherita, Laglio si snoda lungo il tracciato dell’antica strada romana, la Regina, ed occupa una fascia di territorio posta fra il Monte Colmegnone ed il lago. Tra le frazioni che compongono il borgo, Ticee, Germanello, Ossana e Soldino, spicca Torriggia che costituisce il punto più stretto tra le rive del Lario, oltre che il punto di massima profondità. Sul versante del Monte Colmegnone si trova la caverna del “Buco dell’Orso”, sede dell’acquedotto comunale e per questo non più visitabile, all’interno della quale furono rinvenute numerose ossa fossili di Ursus spelaeus conservate al Museo di Storia Naturale di Milano e al Museo Giovio di Como. Patrono di Laglio, cui è dedicata la chiesa parrocchiale in centro al paese, è San Giorgio. La parrocchiale, edificata nel Seicento,
è decorata con stucchi e fregi del lagliese Stefano Salterio e conserva anche opere del Settecento. Un altro elemento di grande interesse è la piramide di Joseph Frank, monumento funebre dell’Ottocento che con la sua altezza di 20 metri vuole ricordare il medico degli Asburgo che decise di finire i suoi giorni guardando le rive del lago. Una peculiarità di Laglio è che la maggior parte delle sue abitazioni è costruita con la Pietra di Moltrasio, che rende unici i borghi del paese ed i muri che costeggiano le strade, opera di esperti nella lavorazione della pietra per l’edilizia, alcuni dei quali ancora in attività. Un’altra tradizione che ha mantenuto le sue radici a Laglio è quella dei “maestri d’ascia”, veri artisti nella lavorazione del legno per la cantieristica da diporto. Ancora oggi in attività il prestigioso Cantiere Riva dal quale, un secolo fa, partì il fondatore dell’omonimo Cantiere Riva di Sarnico. Tra le bellezze che contribuiscono a rendere magico questo luogo, non è possibile non citare le meravigliose ville che si affacciano sulle sue rive, tra cui la celebre Villa Oleandra. 34

It is not by chance that George Clooney decided to spend his days off in Laglio, a town of about 1000 inhabitants located on the western shore of Lake Como. Laglio is in the newspapers thanks to the presence of the actor, who bought the villas Oleandra and Margherita, the town is along the ancient Roman street called Regina, between the Mount Colmegnone and the lake. Among the different suburbs, there is Torriggia, which represents the narrowest point between the shores of Lake Como and also the point of maximum depth. On the slope of Mount Colme gnone there is the famous cavern of the “Buco dell’Orso”, today seat of the town aqueduct, for this reason it can no longer be visited, inside of it different fossils of Ursus spelaeus were found, now visible in the Museum of Natural Histor y in Milan and in the Museum Giovio in Como. The patron of Laglio is
Saint George (when you say the case…) and the parish church in the center of the town is dedicated to him. Another element of great interest is the pyramid of Joseph Frank, funeral monument of the 19th century, located in the town cemetery. With its height of 20 meters the pyramid is dedicated to the doctor of the Asburgo family, who decided to spend his last days on the shores of Lake Como. A peculiarity of Laglio is that most part of the houses are built with the local stones of Moltrasio, which make the small suburbs of the town and the walls along the streets unique. Another ancient tradition in Laglio is the one of the “masters of ax ”, real artists in the wood handicraft for the shipbuilding. Among the beauties that contribute to magic of this place, we have to mention the beautiful villas, among which is Villa Oleandra, located on an ancient Roman settlement. 35
