Who are the Webster’s ?

Love is in the air

Greetings, Welcome to February. This month is all about Love and African American History. Two things that I Love . African Americans have contributed mind body and soul to help shape this great country into what it is today. It would not be able to move forward without the countless contributions of African Americans. Many of the things we take for granted such as air conditioners, light bulbs, elevators, pencil sharpeners typewriters, fountain pens. The list goes on and on. You would really be surprised at all the things we as a people have brought to the table of America. If you want to know more click this link.

February is all about Love. Love is in the air. Many people don’t know how this wonderful holiday came to be. Let me give you a little education. Just in case you are on jeopardy and need to know. This day originated as a day to honor St Valentine. St Valentine was a Christian priest . He was being persecuted by the king because he was performing illegal marriages for young soldiers. The king thought that soldiers should remain single. When St Valentine would not stop performing the weddings, he was thrown into jail. While he was in jail awaiting execution , he penned a love letter to his sweetheart. He signed the letter “From your Valentine.” Thus a holiday was born. How sweet.

Now you have learned about African American History and Valentine Day History. How empowered you are.

Be Blessed, Roxanne

What is Go Red For Women? In 2004, the American Heart Association (AHA) faced a challenge. Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.” To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created

Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

What is the goal of Go Red For Women? Go Red For Women encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.

In 2010, the American Heart Association set a strategic goal of reducing death and disability from cardiovascular disease and strokes by 20% while improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% by the year 2020.

Why is the red dress the symbol of women and heart disease? In 2003, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the American Heart Association and other organizations committed to women’s health joined together to raise awareness of

6

women and heart disease. The NHLBI introduced the red dress as a national symbol for women and heart disease awareness and the American Heart Association adopted this symbol to create synergy among all organizations committed to fighting this cause.

By working together to advance this important cause, the American Heart Association, NHLBI, and other women’s health groups will have a greater impact than any one group could have alone.

Be sure to register to get your red dress pin.

Why do Go Red For Women and other red dress campaigns target women instead of men and women? In the past, heart disease and heart attack have been predominantly associated with men. Historically, men have been the subjects of the research done to understand heart disease and stroke, which has been the basis for treatment guidelines and programs. This led to an oversimplified, distorted view of heart disease and risk, which has worked to the detriment of women.

Because women have been largely ignored as a specific group, their awareness of their risk of this often-preventable disease has suffered. Only 55 percent of women realize heart disease is their No. 1 killer and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol. The Go Red For Women movement works to make sure women know they are at risk so they can take action to protect their health.

Shrimp Scampi w/Linguini (Tyler Florence)

Ingredients 

1 pound linguini

4 tablespoons butter

4 tablespoons extra-virgin

olive oil, plus more for drizzling

2 shallots, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

Pinch red pepper flakes, optional

1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

1/2 cup dry white wine

Juice of 1 lemon

1/4 cup finely chopped parsley leaves

Directions For the pasta, put a large pot of water on the stove to boil. When it has come to the boil, add a couple of tablespoons of salt and the linguini. Stir to make sure the pasta separates; cover. When the water returns to a boil, cook for about 6 to 8 minutes or until the pasta is not quite done. Drain the pasta. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter in 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium-high heat. Sauté the shallots, garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using) until the shallots are translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper; add them to the pan and cook until they have turned pink, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the pan; set aside and keep warm. Add wine and lemon juice and bring to a boil. Add 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons oil. When the butter has melted, return the shrimp to the pan along with the parsley and cooked pasta. Stir well and season with salt and pepper. Drizzle over a bit more olive oil and serve immediately.

And The You Go Girl Award Goes To:

Adele

For many women, the ultimate insult is being called overweight. However, Grammy-nominated sensation Adele is not one of them--in fact, she says she's just fine with her shape and size. In response to a comment by fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, who caused waves by outright calling the 23-year-old "fat" in an interview with Paris newspaper Metro this week, Adele had this to say: "I've never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women, and I'm very proud of that." Lagerfeld's critique of Adele (which also included praise for her "beautiful face" and "divine voice") received immediate backlash from the singer's fans, as well as many women who just plain thought the comment unnecessary. Calls to "boycott Chanel"--the fashion house Lagerfeld heads up--popped up on Twitter, and even sparked a dedicated Facebook page over the past two days. Lagerfeld has since apologized for his comment. On Wednesday, he told Metro that he is Adele's "biggest admirer" and that his quote was taken out of context.

Kudos to you Adele for standing up for the Plus Size Nation

Whether you are trying to spice up an old relationship or strengthen a new one, romantic places can be a useful tool. It is important to remember that romance is more a state of mind than a destination. Still, there are certain locales which are more likely than others to inspire loving feelings.

We all recognize that feeling of being in love – the rest of the world could disappear and you and your partner would never notice. This time of bliss is the perfect opportunity to get away from it all, and of course you’ll need to choose a romantic spot for your dreamy vacation together. As it turns out, the world is just full of fabulous locations lovebirds like you have been flocking to for endless years.

Instead of focusing on finding the ideal romantic spot, try making the places around you more romantic. It is rooted more in thoughts and feelings than in a certain location. With the right mindset, most any place can be romantic. Try one or all these tips: 

Focus with all of your senses. Notice the colors of the changing leaves, the scents in the air, and the feel

of the cool water. 

Make lots of physical contact with your partner. Hand holding, hugging, and kissing can all cause a more

romantic feeling. Eye contact is also important. Avoid any negative conversations. Focus on positive things, such as your hopes and dreams for the future. Laugh. Believe it or not, sharing a good laugh can increase feelings of love and romance.

16

For many, nothing is more romantic than a shot of pure adrenaline. If heart-pounding fear and exhilaration turn you and your partner on, try: 

Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon

Hot-air balloon ride over your own city

Take an African safari If you are a true romantic at heart, you may find romance in yesteryear. For many, the simpler times evoke a feeling of love and nostalgia. If you and your partner yearn for the simplicity of long ago, here are a few tips:

Horse-drawn carriage through Central Park

Riding horses along

the beach at sunset

Tandem bike riding through San Francisco

Flying kites in a meadow If these tips are a bit costly for you, try to find an old-fashioned soda or malt shop (SONIC). Listen to some old tunes and share a chocolate shake! Rona Walton Destynee Travel

Today is swaggtastic meaning dripping with swag, today's hotlist is indeed swaggtastic.Up first is Underworld 3D with a well known star Kate Beckensale what can I say she lit up the screen like the 4th of July and there weren't even any fireworks everyone knows about the ongoing war between the vampires and the lichens i.e. werewolves, in this 4th film about the ongoing war they turn on beast mode as generation ok n calls it and takes it to a whole new level. There is a little bit of everything, fighting, love, an illegitimate love child you name it. Now everybody knows how I like my eye candy presented to us on a silver platter is super duper sexy Michael Ely um um um better than Campbell noodle soup. Have mercy he is fine and he shows us another side to his sexy acting abilities that of a police detective, outstanding. He even takes one for the team. Can't say anymore I've already said too much. GO SEE IT !!!!!!!

Next on today's hot list is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, starts out slow and then pulls your trachea out of your throat threw your mouth awesome. Now some scenes may be a little raunchy but it's worth it. This guy (Daniel Craig) as my friend says is awesome he embodies all the characteristics if a modern day hero, and an up an coming actress Rooney Mara holds her on with a depth unlike anything I've ever seen. Warning this movie is very graphic but worth it GO SEE IT!!!!

22

My last choice was hard to make because it hits so close to home. Ending today's hot list is Red Tails. Oh what an eye opener every black or African American needs to see this movie it recounts a part of American history we needed to be told with a jaw dropping eye candyarific all-star cast including Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, Tristan Wilds, Elijah Kelley, Leslie Odom Jr., Kevin Phillips, Method Man, David Oyelowo, Ne-yo, Marcus T. Paulk, Michael B Jordan, and many many many more eye candies I felt such pride as I saw them doing what they do best. I have to say this film really touched my heart and made me smile. Let’s move on to the NBA. Let me start off by telling you, of the four major sports (Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Baseball), basketball is my least favorite. Why??? I honestly have no idea! In high school, I was a team manager, meaning for the high school basketball team, I kept stats, washed their dirty laundry (YUCK!), did whatever the coaches

Fouls can play a very important part of scoring in basketball and can lead to several points scored. There are several different fouls that can, and do occur. While watching a game, it can seem like every play has some sort of foul on it! Personal fouls consist of hitting, slapping, pushing, and holding, blocking. If the team foul count is 4 or less, the

attempts.

Technical fouls don’t involve player contact. It is basically rudeness; obscene gestures

or language, arguing and such. The players AND the coach could be called for this kind of foul. Two free throw attempts are given for this. Flagrant fouls are extreme fouls; punching, kicking. In addition to the normal two free throw attempts, the team also retains the ball after the free throw attempts.

Stay tuned for the next issue of NBA basics, which will consist of team positions.

WEFGW: Tell us how you met. Frank and Yvonne Webster: I met Rev Webster after I went to visit my daughter at the church she was attending. He attended a dinner I had at my home for the Pastors and ministers of the church. We began to talk and to date. We met and were married a year and 6 months later on July 3 2010..

WEFGW Explain to our reader what “love is an action word “means. Frank and Yvonne Webster: It means to us to touch your mate, be sensitive, to keep eye contact, to be real and genuine with each other, to support each other during good and bad times. Love is more than what you say it is what you do.

WEFGW: What do you feel the most important ingredients are to having a happy and complete marriage? Frank and Yvonne Webster: Being able to communicate with one another, respect each other opinions and to be willing to work out the differences

WEFGW : What advice would you share with other newlywed couples in the beginning stages of becoming one? Frank and Yvonne Webster: Always remember the honey moon, keep the fire burning, listen to your spouse and always be encouraging to each other and to pray together for each other.

WEFGW : We know that marriage is work. How have you learned to work together? Frank and Yvonne Webster: By realizing that we have to have God first, which is our foundation and everything else will fall in place. We also pray together.

WEFGW : Do you work together in ministry? Frank and Yvonne Webster: Yes we travel together to various churches in the DFW Metroplex. . We teach an ex-offender program Tuesday mornings at Ft Worth, Texas Parole and Probation office. The program is called The Most Excellent Way. It is a faith based support group program where we volunteer our gifts and talents to help other reach a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.
