A Amnesty International

Are you interested in changing the world? Do you want to help save millions of lives? Then join the Amnesty club at WGC! Amnesty International is an organization that defends the human rights of minorities in countries all around the world. The aim of Amnesty is to help support this amazing organization by fundraising, joining in on events and organizing our own events to help raise money and awareness for the work that they do. We meet every Monday in the Quiet Study. Together, we can help change the world we live in.

Anime and Manga Club

Whether you’re an otaku or have just stepped into the awesome world of Anime/Manga, we accept anyone, so come and join us! Anime & Manga club is for those who love or would like to experience Japanese animated films and comics known as Anime and Manga. Our club holds fun activities such as quizzes, mini games an​ d much more. We meet every Thursday lunchtime in B23, so if you’re interested feel free to come along! We’re just a group of friendly otakus with similar interests that gather together and we’d love to see new faces!

A Audio Visual Club

Ever seen those girls scrambling around behind the curtain on stage at assembly and wondered who they are? Well, it’s us, the WGC AV club! Contrary to what you see on tv, we’re not all huge geeks, but we are responsible for all the tech and behind the scenes stuff in assemblies and school events such as lipsync. This includes setting up microphones, laptops, and playing music and videos. We always need new members, no matter what year you are or how much experience you have! AV is lots of fun and you learn how to do lots of cool stuff, and you also get to leave class 10 minutes early to set up assembly. We currently don’t have actual meetings, we just show up before assembly, so if you’re interested just flick us an email or see us after assembly

B Baking Club

Baking Club is a place where people who like to bake or are interested in baking come together to share recipes and baked goods. There are no prior skills required, just your enthusiasm! We will have demonstrations and tutorials some weeks, as well as excellent baking. (Cooks welcome too!)

Book Club

Hi, we're the Junior Book Club. We meet every second Tuesday (at this point, changes will be in the notices and WGC Facebook) in the Quiet Study ​ or the nonfiction area. Anyone who likes books can come, and baking is always welcome.

C Chinese Club

Welcome to the 2016 Chinese Club! On alternating weeks, students will get opportunities to learn about Chinese history and Chinese culture while other weeks, students will receive tutoring from our club leaders and other international students. We will also host competitions every term to win some cool prizes from Asia and yes, there will be food. We are aim to further enrich students’ knowledge of an ancient and unique culture, through activities that incorporate both traditional and modern aspects of Chinese culture; as well as providing a chance for Chinese language students to further their learning outside of class.

Commerce Club

Commerce Club is for anyone taking senior economics or accounting, who is wanting to get some extra help or just get ahead in these subjects. If you want some one on one help with anything at all, just send an email to one of the girls below and a Year 13 student can help you out. Commerce Club is a safe place to make mistakes!

Concert Band

Concert Band is open to woodwind, brass, percussion, keyboard and guitar players ­ Grade 2 or above. We play a wide range of music, from jazz standards and classic rock to movie theme medleys and Coldplay. We combine with Wellington College for performances, and perform two or three times a year ­ this includes a concert for primary school students and the annual Combined Soiree.

E Enviro Group

World and Environment Committee has set up the Enviro club to allow students the opportunity to contribute to the committees voice and be a part of the changing face of wgcs enviro contribution. Activities such as: ● Volunteer days (enviro club members have priority) ● Guest speakers (Vic Uni, Sir Peter Blake Trust) ● CV opportunities ● Leadership opportunities

E Equestrian Club

Do you own a horse and want to compete for your school? The equestrian club is a sports team where horse riders go and compete at Inter­school competitions around the lower North Island. You need to have access to a horse/pony to compete at the Inter­school events.

F Feminist Club

The Feminist Club breaks the stereotype of man­hating feminists. We believe all genders and sexualities should be treated equally and be given equal opportunities. If you agree with this mindset and belief, come along to Feminist Club (even if you’ve never come before, and it’s halfway through the year! The more the merrier)! This year we will continue to increase our understanding of ways in which sexism impacts the daily lives of New Zealanders and around the world through the lenses of being an intersectional feminist (there may or may not also be a WGC Fem Club Zine starting up in the works)! Come along to be apart of the young feminist movement, whether old or new, wise or naive.

G GIFT

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘Christian’? Solemn sermons, cheesy songs and rules? Well, think again! Come along to GIFT if you want to have HEAPS of fun with games and food, meet new people, hear amazing speakers, learn what it is to be a Christian and discuss the big questions of life! Absolutely everyone is welcome ­ whether you’re Christian or not.

Glee Dance

Glee is an enthusiastic bunch of all comers, keen to do dancing and singing. You can do one or you can do both, as both groups practice at different times! No experience is required and everyone is welcome, all you need is enthusiasm. If you’re keen to learn some new dances and/or sing show stopping songs with an awesome group of girls, then we want you! The Glee Showcase occurs towards the end of the year where we showcase your talent and there will be other events leading up to this throughout the year.

I International Club

Welcome! We are the International Club for 2016. This year will be packed with fun activities from different cultures from across the globe. Like Kpop or Jpop? We got it. Like food? We got it. Like learning about cultures from around the world through fun activities? We also got it. So come along and bring your friends, share your culture because IC2016 will be a great club for you!

K Kapa haka

Klop Klub

Klop is a outdoor game invented in the forests of Finland. It consists of "chucking" a chuck at a set of wooden pegs, there is no skill needed just pure luck. It is a great way to meet people and socialise, while getting some fresh air. So come down and join us for an easy to learn, SUPER fun game, because those who Klop together, stay together.

L Latin Club

Salvete omnes! Welcome to Latin club! This year we will be meeting once a week to discuss Roman culture and offer tuition for Latin students. Anyone is welcome to join; all that is required is a love for the Latin language. We aim to increase interest in Latin as a subject both inside and outside of school as well as help other students who are currently studying Latin. There is no pressure to attend every week; however we would love to see as many people as possible. There will also be food available, including cake!

M Meditation Club

A club that provides all comers the chance to discover a state of inner peace. To escape the life you’re consumed in and reach a position of thoughtful awareness. We’ll start with the basics and help each other become more knowledgeable on the world of meditation, so don’t fret and just come along.

O Orchestra (All-Comers’)

The all­comers’ Orchestra is made up of various schools around Wellington, including Rongotai College, Wellington Girls' College, Wellington College, and Wellington East Girls’ College. Everyone is welcome, regardless of your level and experience. You get a fantastic opportunity to make new friends, play fantastic music with a large group of people and most importantly have heaps of fun!

P Poly Club

Kiaorana, Talofa, Bula! Want to experience the diverse cultures of the Pacific? Love to dance sing and eat? Come along and join Poly club. We are a family that loves to perform songs and items from our pacific cultures and look forward to performing at Tu Tangata which this year is held in Wellington's Michael Fowler Center. We will be doing items from Niue, The Cook Islands, Fiji, and Tonga and you don't have to be experienced at all. We practice on Wednesday lunch times in Drama 2 and after school on Tuesdays in the old gym. Poly club welcomes everyone no matter where you're from! Let's make 2016 the best year ever! Come join the family!

R Running Club

Runs start at the gym foyer and runners stay in groups of similar ability to keep each other safe. Runs are either down the waterfront or up into the Botanical Gardens and last 20­25 minutes. Ms Ford accompanies runners, signing them out and in, to ensure they are all accounted for. The Sports Office has a letter and consent form that must be signed and returned before anyone can join in the runs.

S Spectrum

Spectrum is your local QSA created to provide a safe space for MOGAI/LGBTQIA students and allies who want to meet fellow amazing people and discover more about your own identity and the identity of your family, friends and community. This year we are working with the health department and other exciting projects such as Day of Silence and our shorts for WGC campaign in order to develop our school into a safer and more progressive space for everyone!

T Teal Voices

Teal Voices is WGC's auditioned choir, with members from Year 10­13. We compete at Big Sing and perform a variety of music at a high level. Auditions are held at the end of the year.

V Video Demons

Video Demons film and edit videos of school events. If you’d like to learn how to use a video camera or put a video together with editing software, come along and have a go. The atmosphere is really relaxed so don’t be afraid to try something new.

W WGC Ukulele Club

We’re a fun­loving and enthusiastic bunch of people who love a good jam! Once a week we jam out together and then are accompanied by our lovely Wellington College Ukulele Orchestra chaps. This orchestra participates in a variety of local events which lead to bigger and better opportunities. It’s a great way to meet new people and learn a new instrument. No prior experience is needed especially as it is such an easy instrument to pick up (I mean, it is less than a kilo). Much love, The 2016 WGC Ukuleaders xxx

World War 100

As the World War 100 Committee, we are committed to the preservation of our nation’s war history. If you have an interest in World War I, those who were involved in the fight itself, or on the side­lines, or waiting at home; then we want you! You can expect to attend ANZAC commemoration events on behalf of the school and meet a variety of interesting individuals with tales of ‘The Great War’. These men and women who have served, are most certainly not to be forgotten. Help us to remember them.
