Policy Committee

The policy committee officially launched in June of 2023. The WFO community gathered to join us in learning more about current legislation, coalitions being built around the state, learning the ins and out of drafting legislation, the process for getting legislation passed as well as the challenges and strategies around implementation and budgeting.

Throughout the year we met with a variety of groups including Family Forward, Children’s Institute, Oregon Ranked Choice Voting, and the Oregon Compensation Commission to learn more about the work being done throughout the state to dismantle harmful systems and improve the lives of Oregonians. WFO is excited to help empower the committee to advocate for change in our community.

Research Committee

The research committee officially launched in January 2024 to work on updating WFO’s 2017 ‘Count Her In’ Report. We have gathered an incredible, talented, and diverse group of folks who are passionate and committed to doing the work. We have also created an advisory group who will help guide, connect and shape the work ahead.

Our shared vision is an Oregon that achieves gender justice through work that is informed and supported by data and lived experiences. We strive to provide research and information that contributes to systems-level change, whereby inequities due to sexual orientation or gender-based discrimination are improved and / or eliminated.

Grant Committee

The grants committee, launched in August of 2023, is made up of community members and philanthropy professionals. The committee reviews grant applications and recommends grant awardees to WFO leadership. WFO believes strongly in low-barrier, trust-based philanthropy. WFO grant applications are short and simple, we accept video submissions, conduct interviews, and will translate all materials into the applicant’s primary language. Furthermore, we gather a team of dedicated volunteers with varied life experiences to read through the applications alongside the entire staff at Women’s Foundation of Oregon to ensure that a variety of perspectives and voices are at the table.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR 2025: THREE PILLARS OF FOCUS

Pillar 1: Building a Donor Network for Collective Giving Objectives:

· Expand Donor Base: Increase the number of individual and institutional donors committed to contributing to our annual grants fund.

· Strengthen Engagement: Develop targeted engagement strategies to involve donors in our mission, events, and grant-making processes.

· Fundraising Initiatives: Launch campaigns and events designed to achieve annual grants of $250K or more.

Pillar 2: Informing Policy with Updated Research Objectives:

· Research Plan Completion: Complete the research plan and white papers that lead to our research project in 2027, focusing on the status of women and girls after the pandemic, economic instability and policy changes in our nation.

· Policy Advocacy: Utilize research findings to advocate for policies that address the challenges and needs identified. This will be coordinated between the policy committee and the research committee.

· Community Outreach: Disseminate research findings through community events, workshops, and partnerships.

Pillar 3: Justice Defined through Intentional Programming Objectives:

· Program Development: Design and implement intentional programming that addresses systemic barriers and promotes justice for women and girls.

· Campaign Preparation: Prepare for a potential Justice Campaign 2033, with a goal to raise $2 million towards WFO assets.

· Community Engagement: Engage community members, partners, and stakeholders in the Justice Campaign and programming efforts.
