Wexford Women's Golf Association 2022 Member Handbook

WWGA Mission Statement The purpose of WWGA is to promote participation in the sport of golf for women of all skill levels at Wexford Hilton Head. We do this through an organization dedicated to women golfers governed by a Board and elected officers with a set of sanctioned By-laws, thereby ensuring representation to our golf professional staff and the Golf Committee of the Board of Wexford Hilton Head. We take an active role in the development and promotion of a variety of 9- and 18-hole golf events for our women players and encourage participation in various golf instructional programs. “We welcome lady golfers of all levels and abilities, with opportunities ranging from social golf to competitive play – including ladies-only weekly play, and clinics to help you improve your golf skills and enjoyment. Come out and join the fun!” Pat Smith, Chair

Signing up for Ladies Day and Club Events For weekly play, please call or email the Pro Shop by 3pm on Wednesday to sign up for Thursday play and let them know if you will play 9 or 18 holes. This courtesy will allow the Staff sufficient time to prepare the pairings & scorecards for the next day. Email: teetime@wexfordhiltonhead.com If the scheduled event is a team event, there must be an even number of participants. If you call after the 3pm cutoff time, the Golf Staff will do their best to accommodate you in the next day’s event. In order that players have the opportunity to get to know and play with players other than their regular group, the Pro Shop will determine the pairings for Ladies Day play. For WWGA’s Season Opener, Closer and Solheim Cup Tournament, a Sign-Up sheet will be posted in the Pro Shop two to three weeks ahead of the event. Members will receive email updates and details will also be available on the WWGA section of the Wexford website.

Checking in Before Play All Golfers are required to check in at the Pro Shop before going out to play. This is a courtesy to the Pro Staff since they are not able to see the first tee and the staff can better manage the tee sheet and avoid any billing issues. In addition, in the event of an emergency or severe weather conditions, the golf staff will be better able to locate you on the course and assist you with any issues that you might encounter.

Note: it is not necessary to check in at the Pro Shop when playing Thursday Ladies Day or in Couples Events. Meet at the Practice Area and a representative from the Pro Shop will be there to check you in.

Wexford Golf Attire Policy Golfers must wear appropriate golf attire at all times anywhere on the golf course or any practice areas. The golf staff reserves the right to prohibit play or practice until dress code violations are corrected.  Male golfers must wear shirts with real or mock collars; shirts must be tucked in. Blue jeans, cargo shorts, cutoffs and tee shirts are not permitted. Men’s shorts must adhere to the accepted country club length. Caps, if worn, must have the bill of the cap facing forward.  Female golfers must wear golf dresses, skirts, skorts, slacks or Bermuda-length shorts. Tanktops, halter tops and jeans are not permitted.

Course Maintenance & Golf Course Care The golf course is closed on Mondays for maintenance. If the pin flags are replaced during the day, this is a signal that you may play the course if you walk or have your own cart and have paid the trail fee. Normal Guest Fees apply and you must inform the golf staff if guests accompany you. 

Please follow the entry (into the fairway) and exit (near the green) gates to ensure and enjoy the pristine golf course conditions all year round.

Please repair all divots with sand, fix ball marks, and rake bunkers during your round.

In June and August, the course closes for extended periods for aeration and other maintenance. Check the website or the Pro Shop for more information.

Determining Maximum Score for a Hole Before a Handicap Index has been established: For a player submitting their first scores to obtain an initial Handicap Index, the maximum score for each hole played is Par for that hole PLUS 5 strokes. For example, if Par for that hole is 3, then the maximum score you could take on that hole is 8, i.e. Par 3 plus 5 = 8. After a Handicap Index has been established: For a player with an established Handicap Index, the maximum score for each hole played is limited to a Net Double Bogey. This would be calculated as follows: Par for the Hole, plus 2 strokes (i.e. Double Bogey), PLUS any Handicap strokes that the player receives on that hole (which yields “Net Double Bogey”). For example, if Par for the Hole is 4, and the player’s handicap for that hole is 1 stroke, the maximum score for that hole would be: Par of 4, plus 2 strokes, plus 1 handicap stroke, for a 7 stroke limit on that hole.

Deciding Which Tees to Play Wexford women typically play from the Red, Celebration or Green tees. The decision of which tees to play from is up to the player, and will affect your enjoyment of the game. The USGA’s “Tee it Forward” initiative recommends that players find the tees that best “fit” their game, even if these are not the longest yardage offered. Some significant holes to consider when making a “tee it forward decision” are Hole #1, Hole #4, Hole #7, Hole #9, Hole #11, and Hole #12.

Volunteer Opportunities WWGA is here to serve the lady golfers of our beautiful community. Members of the Board volunteer their time and energy working with the Pro Staff to create fun and exciting competitive events and opportunities for you to develop your skills. Each Board member takes responsibility for some aspect of women’s or couples golf here at Wexford and we are always in need of volunteers to help run events. If you have interest in serving on the Board or helping run/co-chair events we’d love to hear from you!
