Heroine Mary E. Richmond (NY)
We are persuaded to forget those things, which are behind and reach for our own destiny, which lies before us.

"Thus says the Lord of host: If you will walk in my ways and if you will keep my commandment, then you shall also judge my house, and likewise have charge of my courts; I will give you places to walk among these who stand there"
Zechariah

William Thomas, Jr., Shelton Harris, Jr. and David Lee Bolden were recognized on May 28, 2021 by Newark officials as trailblazers for being the city's first 3 Black firefighters. Thomas and Harris are no longer living, while Bolden is 92.

The Goodwin family was chosen for our end of year charity efforts. The grandparents are raising their grandchildren (ages 2 to 9) They chose to step in to keep their babies out of the "system". As you can imagine it is a struggle. Elizabeth Court #6 gifted them the relief of food that would carry them through the Christmas and New Year holiday.
And in other news...
The family of Shelton Harris, Jr., (second from left) accepted a plaque for his service to the Newark Fire Department. Harris was the second Black firefighter hired by the city in the 1950s and worked in the department from 1956-1985
Knight Shelton Harris Jr. served as the Worthy Grand Joshua of Hanna Grand Court H. O. J. from 1987 thru 1995.
We are so proud to have known that we had such a Noble Knight among us (Knight Sheldon Harris).
Elizabeth Court #6 H.O.J. State of New Jersey
Martha Court #1 HOJ in conjunction with We Wear White Enterprises, LLC provided "Disaster Relief" for the victims of the 2020 tornado that tore through Nashville, TN leaving a path of destruction.

Thanksgiving
Submitted by Her. Linda Scurry ~ Sr. Attendant Mary Court #1 HOJ - Brooklyn, NYWe walk on starry fields of white And do not see the daisies; For blessings common in our sight We rarely offer praises. We sigh for some supreme delight To crown our lives with splendor, And quite ignore our daily store Of pleasures sweet and tender.
Our cares are bold and push their way Upon our thought and feeling. They hang about us all the day, Our time from pleasure stealing. So unobtrusive many a joy We pass by and forget it, But worry strives to own our lives And conquers if we let it.
There's not a day in all the year But holds some hidden pleasure, And looking back, joys oft appear To brim the past's wide measure.
But blessings are like friends, I hold, Who love and labor near us. We ought to raise our notes of praise While living hearts can hear us.
Full many a blessing wears the guise Of worry or of trouble. Farseeing is the soul and wise Who knows the mask is double. But he who has the faith and strength To thank his God for sorrow Has found a joy without alloy To gladden every morrow.
We ought to make the moments notes Of happy, glad Thanksgiving; The hours and days a silent phrase Of music we are living. And so the theme should swell and grow As weeks and months pass o'er us, And rise sublime at this good time, A grand Thanksgiving chorus.

Sometimes it's clothes, food or money and sometimes it's our time...
THE CROSS IN MY POCKET
I carry a cross in my pocket, a simple reminder to me of the fact that I am a Christin no matter where I may be. This little Cross is not magic, nor is it a good luck charm.
It isn't meant to protect me from every physical harm, It;s nor for identification for all the world to see. It's simply an understanding between my Savior and me.
When I put my hand in my pocket to bring out a coin or key, the Cross is there to remind me of the price He paid for me. It reminds me, too, to be thankful for my blessings day by day and strive to serve Him better in all that I do and say.
It's also a daily reminder of peace and comfort to share with all who know my Master and give themselves to His care. So I carry a Cross in my pocket reminding no one but me, that Jesus Christ is Lord of my life only I'll let Him be
LOVE
submitted by Honorary Grand Matron Lillie GossettLove is what our Saviour showed when on the cross He died; and now that same love can be ours if in Him we will abide.
Love that's true seeks not its own; it never dwells on wrong; it envieth not; it hopes all things, its loves that suffers long.
It's love that knows us as we are, with all our sins laid bare; it's love that sees inside our hearts and yet says, I still care!
It's love that made our Savior say, "Not my will', but Thine" and all the hatred in the world could not blot out its shine
it's love the world's not worthy of, it's love beyond all price; it made our Lord and Savior pay the fine sacrifice
So, on this special day of love, all whos herarts are His Should praise that name above all names for being what love is

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.
