Goondi State School's 125th anniversary celebrations MARIA GIRGENTI THIS year, the Goondi State School community celebrates 125 years of delivering quality education, and in August, unearthed the time capsule in the lead-up to the official celebration this month.

Rose Sardi, a teacher at GSS in 1998, whose children attended GSS, and a current staff member,

had the honour of digging first for the capsule buried in 1998 at the school's 100th-anniversary celebrations.

Past students Maegan, Winnie, and Lorna Lauder helped with the digging to locate the time capsule, with P&C Association President Peter Greven, Principal Tania Kaitara and GSS leaders involved in the ceremony's official proceedings.

Past Goondi State School students Leigh Slater and Khadeeja Mohammed, who did their entire primary schooling at GSS, are current staff and parents with their respective children Lawson, Amaarah and Yunus, current students at the school.

The rolled contents of the time capsule buried at Goondi State School 25 years ago were in excellent condition.

GSS has a famous connection as NRL legend Billy Slater, and all members of the Slater family attended GSS. Leigh Slater is Billy Slater's cousin.

Rose Sardi had the first dig to locate the time capsule buried at Goondi State School in 1998.

Lorna Lauder has been a staff member for over 50 years, whilst her children's grandchildren attended GSS and now her great-grandchildren.

As the time capsule was wellsealed, the contents wrapped inside were surprisingly intact, well-preserved and in pristine condition.

A Principal's Legionnaire's hat, local newspaper, and grocery shopping list from 1998, memorabilia from GSS's 100th anniversary (cup, tea towel, pen, centenary book, speeches, and program), old uniform, VHS tape, samples of students' writing, as well as photos and a list of all students enrolled in 1998.

These items will be displayed in a designated space at GSS's 125th anniversary celebrations.

When the time capsule is re-buried, it will contain writing samples of students from each year level in 2023, 2023 class photos, a video of the 125th anniversary, a USB stick of program, as well as a questionnaire organised by former Principal Arthur Sclippa, with answers to the question what they think education will look like in 25 years completed by students and staff.

‘Breakfast for Breast Cancer’ has raised $17,000 for breast cancer research STORY AND PHOTOS BY MARIA GIRGENTI OVER 200 invited guests supported the ‘Breakfast for Breast Cancer,’ hosted by local resident Teresa Millwood at El Arish RSL Hall on October 14, which raised $17,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

On the day, vital funds were raised for breast cancer research through ticket sales, raffles and auctions.

Millwood stated she held this event as she wanted to give back to the very cause which she has a personal connection with and hoped to help others who have received a breast cancer diagnosis.

Millwood’s journey started earlier this year in May when she found breast cancer herself by accident.

In June, Millwood underwent a mastectomy and then started chemotherapy and Herceptin (immunotherapy), which is relatively new.

Every year, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which aims to shine a light on the devastating impact breast cancer has on thousands of Australians each day.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst Australian women, and in 2023, 20,000 will be diagnosed with breast cancer, with 57 diagnosed every day and two every hour.

She also paid tribute to her business friends from Cairns, Townsville and Melbourne for their support and amazing prize donations.

Nine people lose their lives to breast cancer every day, so early detection and diagnosis provide the best chance of survival.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation funding worldclass breast cancer research towards their vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Since it started in 1994, NBCF has invested over $200 million into more than 600 world-class research projects across Australia.

Now, Millwood has completed chemotherapy but continues with the immunotherapy for a few more months.

During this time, death rates from breast cancer in Australia have improved by over 40%.

After the immunotherapy, Millwood will have a check-up, and if all goes well, this will be the end of her treatment.

Business Timelines and Training SARI RUSSO | BA SOCIAL WORK INTERESTINGLY, a lot of businesspeople struggle with letting go and recognising that some people’s success in the workplace is not a load that they should carry.

This may mean recognising that a different leader is better equipped to train a particular person in their skill set. It is recognising that they don’t suit our industry.

This could hurt our pride if we think that the person is our responsibility when they are not.

I am sure that you have heard the phrase, “When you love someone, set them free, and if they are yours, they will come back.” I will use it in business to recognise that someone we have a solid personal relationship with may not be the best candidate for someone for us to work alongside as a leader.

I am not saying family mentor relationships don’t work, but what I am saying is that we may struggle with letting go when it becomes clear that their skillset is not good in our industry. We may need to let them go to find their way in the workplace. That may mean they come back and find their place in the family business in the future, or it may mean just letting them go.

When working in business, we often forget that introducing new concepts to a business is not just about our own skill set, but it is more about how we create a pathway for the members of our business to be successful in their chosen path.

If the pathway isn’t suitable for a person, you can’t force it on them without damaging yourself and them in the process.

Congratulations Rini Dallavanzi, Maraka Queen and Maraka Princess Announced and Upcoming Movies

Congratulations Rini Dallavanzi - Award Nomination Hinchinbrook Visitor Information Centre (HVIC) Volunteer, Rini Dallavanzi, has been nominated for an award at the North Queensland Tourism and Events Awards.

Rini is nominated in the Individual Award Category for ‘Outstanding Contribution by a Volunteer’. This award category aims to recognise exceptional contributions to the Townsville North Queensland tourism industry by an individual.

Rini has been volunteering at the HVIC for 30 years this year, and also celebrated her 90th birthday in May 2023.

Rini has a wealth of knowledge about the Hinchinbrook region and is a passionate ambassador for Hinchinbrook Shire Council. Her ongoing commitment and enthusiasm towards volunteering has made her a valuable and irreplaceable member of the HVIC team. The awards take place at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Friday 10 November 2023.

ESIDENTS of Bingil Bay and Mission Beach may have noticed teams from the National Electric Ant Eradication Program in the region lately.

With the recent detection of an electric ant infestation in Bingil Bay, the Program is getting on the front foot to eradicate these nasty invaders, with field officers spending extended periods in the area conducting surveillance to identify all

the infested properties, ensure the ants haven’t spread to other properties and to provide assurance to local business owners that their products do not contain electric ants.

The compliance team are currently working their way through all affected residences and high risk industries such as nurseries, gardeners and landscapers to ensure everyone is aware of their biosecurity obligations,

NFF takes desperate measures to save farming OFFICE OF THE HON DAVID LITTLEPROUD MP

THE National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) has been forced to take the extraordinary step of launching its largest protest campaign in almost 40 years, as Labor continues to decimate the industry and the regions.

Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Agriculture Minister David Littleproud said the NFF was desperately trying to save farming from a Labor government that had torn up farming confidence. New NFF president David Jochinke also gave a dire warning at the NFF Conference that it was in the fight of its life.

“It has taken just 18 months for Agriculture Minister Murray Watt and the Prime Minister to lose the confidence of the agriculture sector,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Our farmers are under siege. NFF’s public campaign, ‘Keep Farmers Farming’, is an embarrassment for Minister Watt and the Albanese Labor Government.

Every single Australian is feeling the impact of the pain and hurt being put onto farmers, because the end result of Labor’s bad policies are families being forced to pay more for food at the checkout.”

Farmers are being punished by Labor in almost every possible area. Just some examples include; Fresh food tax – Labor is taxing farmers more, by forcing them to pay for the biosecurity risks of international importers.

“It is unfathomable the Labor government would ask farmers pay for the biosecurity risks of international importers from other countries.

“All farmers will be impacted by Labor’s new tax, which will push up the price of fresh food.”

Scrapping the Ag visa – Australia’s top peak food industry bodies warned that agriculture required an additional 172,000 workers, yet only around 16,000 Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) workers have come in since Labor got into office.

“Labor is refusing to reinstate the Agriculture Visa, even though changes to the PALM Scheme are making it even more difficult and costly for farmers to get their product from paddock to plate.

“Farmers simply can’t get the workers they need and will be forced to offer a minimum of

30 hours per week, despite agriculture work being seasonal and weather dependent.”

Banning live sheep exports – Labor is destroying the livelihoods of 3000 people and an industry worth $85 million, by banning live sheep exports.

“Minister Watt has turned his back on the live sheep industry. If Minister Watt is so confident in his decision and the science behind it, details from the Independent Panel Report, handed to Minister Watt yesterday, must immediately be released.”

Water buybacks – Labor is forging ahead with plans for water buybacks, ignoring the economic and social safeguards for an additional 450 gigalitres.

“Reverting to buybacks for the additional 450 gigalitres will hurt regional communities and drive up food prices.”

Renewable energy policies – Labor’s reckless race to 82 per cent renewables by 2030 means 28,000 thousand kilometres of transmission lines will rip up native vegetation and prime agricultural land.

“We don’t need to put in $80 billion dollars of transmission lines.

“Labor’s ideology is putting our food and fibre production is at risk. As well as ripping up agricultural land, chopping down thousands of hectares of native bushland and pristine farmland for wind farms is senseless.”

Other issues include – Potential Cultural Heritage laws putting farmland at risk, forcing farmers to pay for the unrealised capital gain of their properties in superannuation funds, delays to an Infrastructure Review and critical regional projects, delays to red imported fire ant eradication funding and delays acting on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), a lack of impetus to finalise meat labelling and not progressing with the domestic regulation of organics.

“It’s no wonder our farmers are on their knees and now begging Labor to stop destroying the industry,” Mr Littleproud said.

“A future Coalition government will stop this madness and senseless destruction of our farmland for the sake of left-leaning ideology. Unlike Labor, a future Coalition government will support, protect and grow our farming industry.”

Senate inquiry into bank closures in regional Australia extended OFFICE OF HINCHINBROOK MP AND KAP DEPUTY LEADER NICK DAMETTO

WESTPAC customers in regional areas including Ingham, Tully and Cloncurry will have some further reprieve as the Senate Inquiry into bank closures in regional Australia extends into mid2024. Earlier this year, the major bank announced that it planned to close eight regional branches across the country, a decision that infuriated customers and created a sense of abandonment in regional communities.

Public backlash about the decision prompted the Senate Inquiry as well as a decision by Westpac to temporarily pause the branch closures until the inquiry was completed. Originally, the inquiry was scheduled for completion in December 2023 however the timeframes have recently been extended.

Submissions will now remain open until 29 February 2024 with the Senate report due in May 2024.

Hinchinbrook MP and Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Deputy Leader, Nick Dametto said while it was a relief to know that the Ingham Westpac branch would stay open for at least a further six or seven months, the uncertainty for customers about the long-term future of

the branch was unacceptable.

“Customers deserve some certainty about what the future will hold for their local bank branch,” Mr Dametto said.

“Ingham customers are only seeking one outcome and that’s for the doors to remain open so they can access faceto-face service from their bank. Anything short of this will result in them voting with their feet.

“The big banks have shown how disloyal they are to regional communities, in Ingham alone there have been three bank closures in the last five years. Customers shouldn’t have to continuously bank hop just so they can have continued access to their money and basic banking needs.

LAST week, we held our annual Fallow Crop meetings, which were well attended despite the busy time of year.

At these meetings, the new 2023/24 Tully fallow crop guide booklet was presented, and a brief description was provided.

This is the 7th edition of the booklet, first developed

by TSL through the Tully Variety Management group in 2017.

This booklet is designed to be a field guide, with information on why we fallow, which fallow crop types are good options for the wet tropics and includes results of fallow crop measuring that takes place every February and March.

Why we fallow is very simple; it is basically to give the soil a break from sugar cane monoculture, which is why fallow crops are often referred to as “break crops”.

By planting a fallow crop, usually a legume, which is a very different plant from sugar cane, we are trying to add organic material to the soil and provide some potential organic Nitrogen for the next cane crop.

The fallow crop measuring is an attempt to determine how much potential organic nitrogen there could be after a fallow crop, and all that is involved is taking a field sample and weighing it to determine the possible Nitrogen that the legume fallow may provide for the next cane crop.

This measuring is carried out in February – March before the fallow crops are terminated and is a service provided by TSL since 2015, and since 2022, Tully SRA are also been able to carry out the same process.

The booklet also contains information on how to maximize the benefits of fallow crops by applying Calcium and using Inoculants when planting.

This booklet also represents collaboration within the industry, especially between TSL and local SRA, with SRA agronomy staff Dr Danielle Skocaj, Nancy Rincon and Erin Headon all contributing to this latest edition.

The information in this booklet, while Tully-centric for the crop measuring work concerned, has basic information for fallow crops that can be used across the wet tropics.

As part of the last meetings, we also had Inghambased consultant and seed agent Lawrence Dibella present some more in-depth information on fallow cropping and the meetings were also attended by local agribusiness.

RURAL 18 | Stepping away from EU deal, the right call Wet Tropic Times

CANEGROWERS CANEGROWERS has congratulated Federal Trade Minister Don Farrell on taking the courageous decision to step away from free trade negotiations with the European Union rather than sign a bad deal for Australia’s farmers.

Minister Farrell was in Japan over the weekend for the G7 Trade Ministers Meeting in Osaka, where it was anticipated an Australia-EU free trade deal might be done on the sidelines.

However, with agriculture strongly represented by the National Farmers’ Federation, CANEGROWERS and other ag bodies, Minister Farrell agreed that the terms on offer from the EU represented a poor deal for Aussie agriculture.

“It’s no small decision to walk away from a free trade agreement with one of the world’s largest trading blocs.

It takes courage, and I congratulate Minister Farrell for making the tough decision; I know the nation’s farmers will appreciate him taking a stand on their behalf.

“No two trade agreements are ever going to be the same, and neither side will ever get everything they want from the negotiations, but there is one core principle to free trade agreements: both sides should benefit. Neither side should be able to dictate the terms to the detriment of the other.

“The bottom line is the EU needs sugar. They regularly import two million tonnes of raw sugar per

year to meet their domestic demand. And European sugar refiners are crying out for access to the type of high-quality, sustainably produced sugar we produce here in Australia.

“CANEGROWERS will continue to work with the government on this issue, and if discussions should ever reignite, the industry will put our best efforts into supporting a positive outcome.

“In the meantime, the growing Asian market will continue to be the main export destination for the bulk of our high-quality, sustainably produced raw sugar.

While we are constantly seeking to open up trade access to premium markets, Asia will likely remain the key export partner for Australian sugar for many years to come.”

“Minister Farrell has led a team of officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade who have been working hard on this deal for the past five years.

They have collaborated and consulted closely with industry at every step along the way and have always negotiated in good faith with the EU,” CANEGROWERS CEO Dan Galligan said.

“Unfortunately, the EU has consistently failed to offer meaningful access for Australian agricultural produce, including sugar, and as expected, they put nothing new on the table in Japan.

“At the end of the day, this would have been a great opportunity for both Europe and Australia, but we have been telling the Minister for months that no deal would be better than signing a bad deal, and I thank him and his team for listening to farmers and taking their concerns on board.”

Mr Galligan, who was in Japan with the NFF and working directly with government trade officials, said it took guts and determination to walk away.

“Mr Farrell and his colleague, Federal Agriculture Minister Senator Murray Watt, have worked together to understand the industry position, and they know what a commercially viable deal for Australian producers

Bowls News Innisfail Ladies Bowls TWO social games took place last Wednesday, with vastly different outcomes.

MARIA GIRGENTI LAST Saturday morning, the Crocodiles and Cassowaries Tier 1 Tully cricket teams took to Kim Carroll Fields for the first time in front of FrogBox, a live-streaming platform.

Some of the players put on their best performance for the camera, with the batting team particularly enjoying watching the game in front of them, as well as on the screen from a unique perspective.

The Crocodiles won the toss and elected to bat, where Blake Riley top-scored with 20 runs from 17 balls, followed by Casper Roissetter with 17 from 17.

Everyone in the Crocodiles team scored in double digits, which helped the team finish the innings on 117.

The Cassowaries went into bat but had a slow start.

Crocodiles’ Player Ayla Di Mauro bagged three quick wickets, and then the team took three runouts.

Overall, the Frogbox livestream was an enormous success, and it was great to see the players enjoying themselves and putting on a good show for the camera.

Golf News Innisfail Golf Club LAST week brought more clear weather, with temperatures warming up on course.

Congratulations to Andrew Rose, IGC’s new Plus Marker which is a fantastic achievement and testament to his excellent rounds over the last few months.

Rose now must birdie the second hole to make a par with his new handicap.

The grounds crew had the course in fantastic condition for last weekend’s Stableford.

Anyone who has spare time during the week, or on Thursdays, to help with whipper snipping and tree trimming, please contact Andrew Rose or Jake Cockle.

On October 22, IGC’s junior champion Caine Cockle won the Junior Champion of Champions at El Arish Golf Club in a remarkably close game, with three juniors competing for the title.

Jake Cockle, who equalled the course record on October 7, won Friday’s Sporters competition on October 20.

Vaughan Smith and Jake Cockle came close but finished in second place in the Seniors and A-Grade competitions.

It was hard to believe 26 points would get you fourth place in the run down, with Des Hensler setting a record of 31 points in Wednesday’s All Sporters competition on October 18.

Bowls News Innisfail Men’s Bowls THE winning team from last Thursday afternoon’s social bowls was Kevin Deegan, Greg McDonald, Ian Revie and Bill Hoskins.

Visitors and new members are most welcome, with names to be in by 12:30 pm for a 1:00 pm start.

In Club Triples, Jim Martinod, Michael Roots, and Mal Clifford defeated Matt Aucello, Jamie Paterson and Joe Van Tienen in a remarkably close affair.

They now play in the final against Wayne O’Neill, Steve Stoter and Warren Sinclair.

In Consistency Singles, Sam Micale defeated Bob Chaplain, whilst Gordon Goes defeated Diana O’Brien.

Last Saturday, the club travelled to Yungaburra and competed in the Palmerston Cup but suffered a defeat.

Boogan Stars’ Junior Football Club Awards presentation MARIA GIRGENTI BOOGAN Stars’ Junior Football Club capped off an extremely successful year with their end-of-season presentation held at Castor Park, Mourilyan, in September.

Medal and trophy presentations took place for Under 6 to 11 teams, most of which had three or more teams in each age group.

The Boogan Stars’ Junior Football Club has over 100 players registered, with five Under 6/7 teams, three Under 8/9 teams, three Under 10/11 teams and 20 youngsters in the Squirts (3 - 5 age group).

Erik D’Urso is the club’s President, along with Daniel Goodwin (Vice President), Claire McKell (Secretary), Kylie Goodwin (Treasurer) and Aaron McKell (Registrar), Damien Musumeci (Coaching coordinator) and Sharon Stephenson (Under 6/7 coordinator), make up the Boogan Stars’ committee.

Brendan King was bestowed Life membership in recognition of his untiring service, involvement and support in the development and well-being of Boogan Stars Junior Football Club.

The club especially wanted to thank all the players, coaches, and parents for making it a great season.

MARIA GIRGENTI A TEAM of Far North rugby league players turned their pain into passion when they competed in the two-day Gordonvale Indigenous rugby league carnival, hosted by Southern Suburbs Rugby League Club at Alley Park from October 21 - 22.

Johann Turner and his team took to the field and played in honour of his father, Richard Turner Senior, who was tragically taken in 2022.

His son, Johann, said his father's (Richard) love for football led him to bring family and friends together to form a team. Each player who pulled on a jersey knew his father in some way, which was heart-warming and extra special.

The grand final played out between the Richard Turner Memorial team and Dirringhi.

After going in half time with a 12 - 6 lead, the Richard Turner Memorial team kept Dirringhi scoreless in the second half and cruised to a 26 - 6 victory to claim this year's champions title and prize money.

Former Innisfail Leprechauns players Michael Carroll picked up the Best Back award, whilst Bailey Biondi-Odo collected the Player of the Final and

Player of the Carnival trophies.

The ninth carnival hosted 24 Open Men's teams, which included Irukandji Stingers, Paga Panthers, Aragun Warriors, Guyu Colts, Black Cockatoos, Garnet Eagles, Tagalaka Waangu, Wayne Emmanuel Prior Memorial, Dirringhi, Mixed Relations, Naigai Balas, Bilngkumu United, Weipa Raiders, Northern United, Mala Yabbas, Julanda Yeatman Memorial, Koedal United (first carnival), Harley Richardson Memorial, NQ Warriors, Mulga United, Northern Chiefs, Kila Ngaachi, Richard Turner Memorial and Pompuraaw Crocs (first carnival).

In hot and humid conditions, teams battled it out for the George' McFly' Ludwick Singleton Memorial Shield, beautifully designed by Aunty Pat Singleton.

NQ Warriors held a 16 - 0 lead at halftime, and despite a spirited secondhalf comeback by Kila Ngaachi, NQ Warriors secured a 22 - 18 victory in the Plate grand final.

FISHING

NEWS with Tony Mossop WEEKEND fishermen have certainly had a tough time this year with the weather, and last weekend was no exception.

If you cannot take advantage of the good weather when I turns up, you are likely to miss out altogether.

For those lucky enough to get out there midweek, good numbers of coral trout were caught.

Out a little deeper quality, nannygai and Red Emperor have been showing up along with some lovely long-nosed emperor.

Around the islands, some nice coral trout have been caught on the shallow reef systems.

Grassy, sweet lip have been eager to take a wellpresented bait, as well as some good-sized grunter and Finger-mark have been landed.

Some fishermen I know personally stop fishing for grunter this time of the year because they are full of row or fish eggs.

It's not a nice feeling knowing you have just killed a fish that was about to lay potentially thousands of baby grunter.

Schools of bait fish have been moving closer to the coast; hopefully, pelagics will start feeding on them soon.

This is the time of year we start seeing the Grey Mackerel start to school up around the islands and coastal headlands.

The greys or broad-barred Mackerel tend to feed in a slashing surface strike and can move around quite quickly, similar to tuna.

Trolling small spoons behind a paravane at a brisk 6 to 8 knots is very effective.

Another method more suited to conventional rods and reels is to troll smallish metal vibes such as the Jackson Pan Vibe at the same brisk pace.

I prefer to chase the feeding birds around and cast metal lures such as the Arma metalik 40 gram.

Use a high-speed retrieve; by watching your sounder and looking for bait and fish, you can judge the depth you need to allow the lure to sink before starting your retrieve. A decent 2.3 to 2.5 m. Spin rod matched to a 5 or 6000-sized reel would be perfect.

In the rivers and bays last week. With the full moon, many fishermen reported good fishing; plenty of barra and jacks were caught on both lures and baits. Grunter trevally and flathead continue to be in good numbers around river mouths and bays.

Last weekend was your last chance for a barra as we now have a three-month closed season ahead of us. Let's hope we have an excellent early wet season to let the barras spawn.

This week's forecast looks like 10 knots into the weekend, with the temperature expected to increase slightly. The Spanish mackerel closure is finished, so I expect some local fishermen to be out making the most of the calm conditions to chase what could be the last of the Spanish.

This weekend, we are also between the two reef fin fish closures, so the outside fishermen will have no restrictions to be concerned with.

River fishermen can still target red bream this weekend with little run in the tides.

The lure fishermen can fish all day into the afternoon high tide. Bait fishermen will also look at that afternoon high tide with some fresh fillet, fishing in their favourite snag just before dark. They should get some good results.

State glory in Townsville MARIA GIRGENTI TWENTY-THREE new QLD Champions were crowned at the Sunstate Amateur Boxing League Queensland Titles held over two days at Townsville Showgrounds on September 16 - 17.

Babinda Boxing Club’s Dakoda Masina, aged 14, who has been boxing for three years, won gold and State title crown after a unanimous decision against Sasha Glare from Border Boxing Club, Albury, New South Wales, in the Female 51kg Junior Girls division final.

Sanraj Singh Grewal, also from Babinda Boxing Club, faced Kingdom Ingham’s Spencer Riys in the Junior Boy 54kg final and won the bout by referee

stoppage in the second round to claim gold at the State title.

In the Senior 57kg final, Max McDonald from Tully Boxing squared off with Brodie Parker from Dreams, Townsville and returned home with a silver medal.

Tully Boxing’s Santana Fawkes, who is in high school, stepped up and fought three-time Australian boxing champion Tyler Shaw, aged 20, from Dreams, Townsville, in the Senior Female 71kg final.

Fusion Fight and Fitness Innisfail Luke Hubert clashed with Lochlan Duncombe in the Senior 91kg final, whilst Isaac featured in the Sub Junior 44.5kg final against Jayden Wason from Hawks Townsville.

Although it was only their second and third fight, respectively, Luke and Isaac Hubert wanted to jump in the ring, gain valuable experience and ring time and put in an awesome effort to return home with a silver medal.

Adam Brown (Art of Strength, Townsville) took out Junior Fighter, Riley Allen (Old School, Cairns) Senior Fighter of the Tournament, whilst Santana Fawkes (Tully Boxing) received the NQABL Sean Cody Memorial Encouragement Award.

These two Babinda boxers have earned their spot in the Queensland team.
