Eighteen tinnies were tied to the railings, with approximately fifty people ticking off their 'bucket list' event of coming to the pub in a tinny!

Some patrons played pool, some sat in the flooded beer garden, and others

were happy to sit on the veranda and admire the waterfront views.

The atmosphere was incredible and a first for many, including our publicans, Dave & Ollie Muzic, who've owned the hotel for two years.

Where do you find Crocs in Croc-country?

SARI RUSSO ASSUMING a prominent position and greeting the Hinchinbrook community from their front stage. A 2.5m croc, nicknamed Jasper, drew a crowd as he decided to swim in Palm Creek near the Rotary Park stage in the centre of Ingham.

As the rough water can hurt them, so the answer to where you find Crocs in Croc-country = is anywhere they can walk or swim where they feel safe.

As Jasper chose to remain in Palm Creek even as the waters began to subside Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service’s (QPWS) Wildlife officers came and removed the creature with a harpoon, as harpoons are the safest way to remove crocodiles without causing harm to their skin.

“Using a harpoon is a direct method of capture and takes a lot of skill and experience to get close enough to the crocodile before the animal submerges,” said senior wildlife officer Tony Frisby.

In a message from the Department of Environment and Science the following is stated: • With widespread flooding in far north Queensland following Cyclone Jasper, people in affected areas are advised to stay away from floodwaters and to be aware that crocodiles and snakes could turn up in unexpected places.

• Department of Environment and Science Northern Wildlife Operations Director Lindsay Delzoppo said it was never safe to swim or wade in floodwaters.

• “During flooding crocodiles may turn up in places they haven’t been seen before as they move about in search of calmer waters,” Mr Delzoppo said.

• “We expect crocodiles in the cycloneaffected area to be on the move as they search for a quieter place to wait until the floodwaters to recede.

• “Snakes are very good swimmers, but they dislike flooding too and they could seek higher ground during a flood event.

• “They may appear in unexpected places, including yards, sheds, vehicles, houses and on play equipment while they rest.

• “People who see snakes in their homes or on their property should not attempt to catch or remove it.

• “Providing it is safe to do so, it is usually best to stay away from the snake and to allow it to move away in its own time. Anyone who needs assistance in removing a snake should contact a local licensed snake removalist.

• "All crocodile sightings should be reported in a timely manner to the department by using the QWildlife app, reporting via the Department’s website,

or by calling 1300 130 372.

• “Wildlife officers investigate all crocodile sighting reports the department receives.

• “Remember, you are responsible for your own safety in Croc Country, and it’s important to make good choices around waterbodies, including floodwaters.

• “Under the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan, crocodiles displaying dangerous behaviour will be targeted for removal from the wild.

• People in croc country are reminded to always be Crocwise. In particular: • Expect crocodiles in ALL far north Queensland waterways even if there is no warning sign • Obey all warning signs – they are there to keep you safe • Be aware crocs also swim in the ocean and be extra cautious around water at night • Stay well away from croc traps – that includes fishing and boating • The smaller the vessel the greater the risk, so avoid using canoes and kayaks • Stand back from the water’s edge when fishing and don’t wade in to retrieve a lure • Camp at least 50 metres from the edge of the water • Never leave food, fish scraps or bait

near water, camp site or boat ramp • Never provoke, harass or feed crocs • Always supervise children near the water and keep pets on a lead • Report all croc sightings to DES by using the QWildlife app, by submitting a sighting report on the DES website or by calling 1300 130 372. DES investigates all sighting reports it receives.

Christmas Street Party in Tully THE rain events did not stop the Tully community from getting out and being festive for Christmas at the annual Street Christmas Party.

Kids met Santa, there was fire twirling, the Rotary raffle was drawn, there was food and costume party amongst and other festivities on the night for people to enjoy.

WHAT a joy it is when we gather amongst family and friends for Christmas, especially when there is a heartfelt love for each other.

A love that is bigger than our individual weaknesses and quirkiness. This was

always God's intention - for strong families built on love, acceptance and forgiveness.

I always take delight in hearing God's heart - expressed through the angels to the shepherds on that pivotal night of Jesus' birth. 'Peace on earth and goodwill toward all mankind'. How this world could do with a good

dose of goodwill (and common sense) right now. Without realising it, all that Jesus stood for is what we know in our hearts is good and what we want to experience ourselves: love, acceptance, forgiveness and goodwill.

My prayer is that you experience these things this Christmas, as God intended it to be.

become the righteousness of God. The gospel tells us that no one can come to the Father except through the Son. Only because of Jesus' death can we come to the Father and ask for forgiveness in his name.

John 14:6 NIV [6] Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

God sent his Son to die for us because of his undying love.

What greater gift could we ask for that one would lay down his life?

Better soil health SARI RUSSO | BA SOCIAL WORK GROWING up in Tully I appreciate a good wet season. I live in Ingham, sorry, but I prefer Tully’s wet season to Ingham’s.

The main difference in the areas that I have learnt about from farmers is the different soil types and their impact.

Ingham’s soil does not drain as well as Tully’s, so when it rains heavily, the struggle is getting back to work quickly to ensure everything is cut and nothing is left in the paddock.

Sadly, this year, farmers are still counting the cost of leaving the cane in the paddock in 2022.

The main issues that arose were battling with rats, the rules and regulations the Government had created when it came to fighting this issue, and diminished CCS content when the cane was finally harvested this season.

Tully has a different battle with the rain. As far as I understand it, the excess rain affects the CCS in the harvest despite having such good soil.

You often hear of different programs regarding improving soil health, so what does it take to be part of these programs? Are they expensive, difficult to access, and the farmers wear costs they cannot afford before seeing any benefit?

My husband is a cane farmer. I grew up in a cane farming family, and now I am part of the media; I keep witnessing farmers having so many rules and regulations introduced that they no longer survive.

In my opinion, based on the current track record of the Australian Government, there seems to be a goal not to have any farmers exist in Australia at all. They make so many hoops for them to jump through that they cannot survive, and then they allow food in from other countries that do not have the same restrictions.

It doesn’t make sense and doesn’t benefit the environment, so why is this happening? Who does it benefit?

And on that sad note - Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing you in 2024. Our first edition will be in stores on January 18.

Flooding photos - exTropical Cyclone Jasper MARIA GIRGENTI LAST Wednesday, December 13, Tropical Cyclone Jasper, a category two system made landfall north of Cairns near Wujal Wujal, which dumped more than 800mm of rain across the Mossman and Daintree catchments.

Late on Wednesday, the cyclone now downgraded to a tropical low crossed southern Cape York Peninsula and headed towards the Gulf of Carpentaria.

By Saturday, December 16, widespread flooding unfolded in the Daintree, Mossman and Barron River catchment areas, across 360 kilometres, from Cooktown to Ingham.

The ex-cyclone produced extreme rainfall in Far North Queensland of more than two metres, which led to severe flooding across the region, forced evacuations and left residents stranded.

Flooding occurred in Daintree, Mossman, Port Douglas, Cairns, Gordonvale, Atherton Tablelands, Innisfail, Tully and Ingham with, power outages,

landslides, damage to roads, communities isolated and even caused closure of the Cairns Airport.

As the clean-up and assessments and full impacts of flooding begins, there is likely to be significant damage to properties, businesses/public infrastructure, negative effects on industries, such as tourism and agriculture with recovery likely to take months.

Businesses in Innisfail suffered flooding damage after record rainfall fell in the Cassowary Coast region.

Mena Creek Falls at Paronella Park roared and the Park flooded, after it received 315mm in 24 hours until 9.00am on Sunday, December 17.The floodwaters come from the hills behind Paronella Park and the gauge there recorded 566mm in 24 hours until 9.00am.

Yanks Jetty Gangway Reinstatement Delayed Important notice for anyone planning to visit Yanks Jetty over the Christmas break.

Council advises that due to lead times for scheduling expert marine contractors, the reinstatement of the gangway linkage between Yanks Jetty and the pontoon will not be completed before the Christmas holiday period.

The gangway has been fully repaired and strengthened for some time now, and despite Council’s best efforts in trying to find alternative approaches to get the gangway reinstalled, the earliest the pontoon can be safely lifted into place is now early 2024.

Council advises that the Yanks Jetty Pontoon is currently open, safe to access and will remain open for use during the Christmas holiday period.

Boat owners are reminded to obey all signage on the facility and comply with Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s anchoring and mooring restrictions.

Lastly, it is always good practice whenever you are visiting beaches and islands in our Shire to pick up

any trash and rubbish you come across. “Take home more than you brought with you”.

Students participated in child safety education activities to promote safety and protection initiatives and helped empower them to 'Recognise, React and Report' unsafe situations or if they felt something was wrong.

Goondi State School students celebrated academic success MARIA GIRGENTI GOONDI State School students recently celebrated success in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).

ICAS is an independent, skills-based assessment program that recognises and rewards students’ achievements in English, Maths, Science, Spelling, Writing and Digital Technologies.

Students from Year 2 onwards can elect to enter this internationally recognised gold standard in academic competitions.

ICAS recognises academic performance, and students can sit up to six literacy and STEM papers, including English, Mathematics, Science, Digital Technologies, Writing and Spelling Bee.

The questions are fun, engaging, and designed by psychometricians, education measurement experts and experienced teachers, aiming to push students to their academic limits and evaluate higher-order thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Awards given include Participation, Merit, Credit, Distinction and High Distinction.

ICAS benefits schools as data-rich results provide insight into students’ strengths and weaknesses, assisting teachers to unlock classroom potential and accelerate learning outcomes.

Since it started in 1981, over 10 million students from 16,000 schools across 41 countries, including Australia, have participated in ICAS.

Goondi State School students, Summerpreet, Connor, Nico, Penny and Adam with their ICAS certificates.

Students sit the assessments at their school with supervision by teachers under normal examination conditions.

This year, over 50 Goondi State School students participated and achieved 5 Distinctions, 8 Credits and 8 Merits.

A special congratulations to William Gravatt (Year 6) and Lucas Blair (Year 4), who both received Distinctions in Mathematics (top 10%).

Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Innisfail is given a new lease of life

STORY AND PHOTO BY MARIA GIRGENTI FROM mid-August to mid-November, the Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church Innisfail received a face-lift and has been restored to its former glory, after it underwent cleaning, repairs and painting of the exterior.

The next stage of the project is the car park at the rear of the church, with plans in place for tenders to be sought and work to commence.

This church has been located on the iconic site, overlooking the Innisfail community for over 130 years and the church building used for worship today will

celebrate its centenary in 2028.

Over these years, the church has been an integral place for local family celebrations including weddings, baptisms, funerals, weekday and weekend Masses, as well as a house of prayer.

As the church nears its centenary, urgent works were required to enhance the physical structure of the church building. The cost of these works is beyond the available financial resources of the parish, so recently the Church Restoration Appeal was launched, to seek financial contributions and donations from parishioners and members of the local community.

Blue EDGE Program was a success at Innisfail school SENIOR CONSTABLE JANE MORAN THROUGHOUT term four of the school year, Sergeant Mick Maguire from Innisfail PCYC brought the Blue EDGE (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower) Program to Innisfail State School, along with Police Liaison Officer (PLO) Michael Sands, who has a committed long-term engagement with the school and its students.

The pair delivered the program over eight weeks, spending time and working

with students twice a week.

Blue EDGE is a platform for students to enhance their engagement with the education system, improve their physical abilities, and receive guidance from mentors that focus on transitioning from junior to secondary school, teamwork, character development, and healthy lifestyle choices.

The program was a resounding success, with active participation from both students and mentors.

Various sporting activities were on offer, including World Cup soccer, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, and exercise challenges that allowed students the opportunity to put their skills to the test.

The exercise sessions were fair and friendly, and emphasised teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.

The students demonstrated great enthusiasm and displayed impressive teamwork throughout the activities.

Students were provided with a nourishing breakfast while a mentor spoke on various issues and subjects to enhance their personal growth, healthy lifestyle choices, and the importance of academic engagement.

Mentors played a vital role in providing information, motivation, and support to the students throughout the program.

The mentors’ dedication and commitment to the students was evident during Blue EDGE through their involvement in sports activities and motivational speeches.

Several outstanding achievements were witnessed during the program with students exhibiting exceptional sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.

Many achieved personal bests and displayed excellent talent across the a number of sporting activities.

The mentorship component of the event highlighted the strong bonds formed between mentors and students, ultimately leading to improved academic engagement and personal development.

During the eight-week program, the year six class won the school’s attendance trophy six times.

As a reward for their hard work, Blue EDGE treated the students to a fun filled day at Cairns Central where they attended the movies to see Head Space, an animation about an alien invasion, and were treated to popcorn, ice- cream and a drink.

Afterwards, students attended Rebel Sports, where they were allowed to pick any runners of their choice.

The day finished with lunch in the food court and some much needed naps from students and PLOs. Overall the day was filled with a lot of smiling faces, new shoes, and many compliments from other shoppers about the students’ wonderful behaviour.

We look forward to continuing such initiatives in the future, fostering a positive and motivating environment for students to thrive in academics, lifestyle choices and physical activities.

I had hoped to use my final column of 2023 to wrap up the year positively.

With the harvest finally complete and growers, mill workers, and harvesting crews looking forward to spending some well-earned quality time with loved ones over the Christmas break, I had planned to sign off for 2023 with a message of hope and joy for readers.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper, the first of this year's cyclone season, swept through far north Queensland last week, leaving a trail of destruction and devastation.

While the storm wasn't as intense as we had initially feared, the relentless torrential rain caused widespread flooding from Tully to the Daintree.

As I write this, entire communities are cut off by floodwaters, left isolated without power and, in some cases, without clean drinking water.

What a difference a week makes.

LAST Tuesday, December 12, we held our end-of-year TVMG meeting /BBQ in the Murray. A good number (56) of people attended, with a further dozen unable to participate.

At this meeting, we discussed the year's variety trial results and recommendations going into 2024 and beyond for the new and newer varieties like SRA 26, SRA 28, SRa 9 and SRA 37.

Updates were heard from TCPSL and TSL, and the night was a great success. This event is now an annual one, and it has become a way of saying thank you to the industry for the support.

A few days later, of course, the rains came and caused local flooding over the weekend.

RURAL Disease and dangerous debris are just some of the dangers facing inundated communities, with snakes and even crocs spotted in floodwaters.

Obviously, there is no good time to experience a natural disaster. Still, the scale of destruction inflicted on these communities, with Christmas just a few days away, makes it particularly heartbreaking.

The region's sugarcane industry has also been badly impacted. However, at this early stage, it is impossible to determine the eventual costs.

Sugarcane can be a very resilient crop once it has had some time to grow, but plant cane does not cope well with flooding and fast-moving water. Growers will have to wait until the water subsides to get an idea of the impact on next year's crop.

CANEGROWERS has been working closely with the local, state and federal governments as recovery efforts are coordinated, and we will continue to work with government and communities in the weeks and months ahead.

The road to recovery will be long, but as Queenslanders, we are adept at dealing with and At this stage, it is too early to tell what damage has been done by the local flooding, which was made worse by flooding rivers with so much rain occurring in the upper catchment areas.

There is not just damage to the 2024 crop from water inundation but also damage to infrastructure, roads, rail, etc., all of which will still be fully assessed once the flood waters recede fully when it is safe to do so.

It is also worth noting that the Australian Sugar Heritage Centre in Mourilyan was flooded over the weekend, and local staff have worked tirelessly to clean up and get the post office back into partial operation for outgoing mail only.

The sugar museum itself will be closed over the festive season and probably longer as we clean up and repair damaged areas like the front entry area and library, where carpets especially were soaked and badly damaged. The main exhibits themselves appear to be unaffected, but of course, major cleanup will be required where water ran across the floors, and this will take time.

While this flood has undoubtedly made it a brutal end to the year, 2023 was still a successful year in many ways. The Tully crop yield was slightly above average. Despite the very wet start to the harvest, the

I hope flood waters recede quickly and impacted communities get some relief. Unfortunately, a merry Christmas just won't be possible for many this year.

Still, I do wish everyone in those communities a peaceful and safe Christmas and New Year.

New Premier It has been a baptism of fire for our new Premier, the Hon Dr Steven Miles, who was sworn into office the day before Jasper made landfall.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome him to the role and wish him and his government success in dealing with this natural disaster.

During his time in the ministry, whether as Environment Minister or Deputy Premier, Dr Miles has always been willing to sit down with the sugarcane industry to discuss our challenges and opportunities.

I hope he continues to take this positive approach as Premier, and I look forward to working with him in the months ahead. crop was entirely harvested.

Cassowary Coast Chargers junior rugby union teams finished the season on a high, with one premiership

ON December 8, the Cassowary Coast Chargers Under 12 team registered a thrilling win in the Far North Queensland rugby union grand final against Barron Trinity Bulls 22-21 held at Jones Park, Cairns.

The club’s youngest team certainly have an exciting future ahead.

Cassowary Coast Chargers Under 14 Boys’ team was unlucky not to grab the win in a grand final, which did not disappoint.

The Chargers were down by almost 30 points at halftime, then made a spirited fight back in the second half.

They lost their captain, who sustained a knee injury and almost clawed their way back for the win but ran out of time.

Everyone worked hard to the end, but Southside Crusaders claimed the 38-29 victory.

All players dug deep and capped off an incredible season of growth and development.

Likewise, the Chargers Under 16 Boys’ team played with heart. They narrowly missed the winner’s spoils to Cairns as Wanderers claimed the premiership trophy with a 29-22 victory.

Cassowary Coast Chargers teams made three out of four age group finals, which is a fantastic achievement for the emerging club.

It was fantastic to see so many club supporters cheering on the teams from the sidelines, with stacks of red and white all around, which created an electric atmosphere.

Congratulations to all players for continuous improvement, commitment, resilience, persistence, and sportsmanship.

A special thank you and congratulations to the club’s volunteer coaches, managers, assistants, first-aid officers, FNQ referees and linesmen, and everyone who travelled to Cairns each week to support the junior teams.

The club capped off another successful season and celebrated individual and team achievements on December 10 at their end-of-season break up and awards presentation.

Innisfail Defenders Touch Football Association mixed season grand finals STORY AND PHOTOS BY MARIA GIRGENTI ON Wednesday, November 22, the final whistle blew for 2023 and marked the end of an awesome Innisfail Defenders mixed touch football season.

This generous grant enabled the association to purchase three 3m x 6m marquees proudly displaying the club’s logo.

These all-weather marquees will not only offer sun protection during carnivals but will also keep spectators dry on rainy nights.

Season 1 in 2024, Innisfail Defenders is introducing a new format with Open Men's, Open

Women's, and Mixed Division teams all taking place in the same season, which means players can choose to play in two teams.

The juniors and seniors’ season will kick off in early February 2024.

The seniors season kicked off in mid-July and ran for 16 weeks, with eight mixed teams in both A-Grade and B-Grade divisions.

In the B-Grade final, 3B triumphed over ONF with a solid 13 - 5 victory, whilst Phreshness outplayed Wii Not Fit and secured a 5 - 3 win in the A-Grade final.

In September, Innisfail Defenders Touch Association was the proud recipient of a DoorDash grant.

LOCAL lawn bowlers from Silkwood and South Johnstone received awards at the Tropical Far North Queensland District Ladies Bowls Association Presentation Day on October 31, hosted by Yungaburra Bowls Club.

Forty-eight players from nearly all clubs in the region played ten ends and enjoyed a delicious lunch supplied

by Yungaburra ladies.

All names went into a bucket and eight lucky ladies won $10.

Joan Mercer and Robyn Brunello from Tully Bowls Club attended, Ann Rule, Diana O’Brien, Marilyn Allen and Margaret Johnston represented Innisfail Ladies, Louise Hoskins represented South Johnstone, whilst Denise Charman and Leeann Mayell represented Silkwood.

Coconuts paddler Matthew Abbott represented Australia at the IVF World Distance Championships MARIA GIRGENTI IN August, Coconuts Outrigger Canoe Club coach and reigning Australian OC1 and V1 champion Matthew Abbott competed on the world stage at the 2023 IVF Va’a World Distance Championships in Samoa.

Abbott represented Australia in a team of paddlers from the east coast of Australia that competed in the Open Men’s OC6 (six-man) 24km marathon.

Paddlers faced fierce competition in Samoa, with elite teams worldwide battling for the win.

Hawaii dominated the podium in the Open Men’s OC6 marathon and secured first place, followed by Tahiti in second and Aotearoa, New Zealand, in third.

The Australian team displayed teamwork and determination, securing twelfth place with a finishing time of 2 hours and 10 minutes in the challenging 24km race.

Abbott also qualified to represent Australia in the V1 (one-person) 16km marathon. He secured a sixthplace finish, completing the course in 1 hour and 48 minutes.

Aside from racing, Abbott received the honour of performing two significant roles. He was appointed coach for the Australian OC6 Open Men’s team and

a flag bearer for the opening ceremony, where he proudly represented Australia.

Abbott and Robyn Saultry gained selection as the Australian team flag bearers for their outstanding achievements as paddlers, coaches, and leaders, with excellent records of success at the National level and representing Australia in outrigging competitions.

Both have given a lot to the sport, shown dedication and sacrifice over the years and are highly respected by the Australian team and wider paddling community.

Abbott said, “Even in a sport as small as outrigging, representing your country in something you love doing is just the greatest feeling. It was such a privilege to be part of the campaign and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

“The support from the entire Australian team (competitors, supporters, and family) in Samoa really made it a memorable time.”

“There were some excellent individual and team results achieved at the event by some of our North Queensland paddlers.”

Cassowary Coast Cyclones junior and senior teams final cricket wrap for 2023 MARIA GIRGENTI CASSOWARY Coast Cyclones junior cricket teams finished on a high with three wins as they head into the Christmas/New Year break.

The senior teams had an early mark for the year, after Tropical Cyclone Jasper washed out last weekend’s Round 12 fixtures.

Congratulations to Giacomo De Faveri on his undefeated century, which included 22 fours and guided Tier 2 Orange to another big total, in combination with a half century from Archie Walker.

A special mention to the Cyclones Tier 2 Teal team who effected six run outs in their match against Mulgrave last weekend, which may have well been the difference in the result.

Far North Cricket senior fixtures resume in early January and junior fixtures at the end January 2024.

Innisfail United Football Club gala senior awards presentation STORY AND PHOTOS BY MARIA GIRGENTI LAST month, Innisfail United Football Club celebrated a successful season and recognised senior teams and individual achievements at their awards presentation dinner held at Brothers Leagues Club, with over 150 people in attendance.

The club continues to grow in strength and had 11 junior and senior competitive teams in action this season.

Innisfail United FQPL Under 23 Men’s team made it to the grand final but went down to Marlin Coast.

Innisfail United Under 13 and Division 1 and 2 teams also featured in the finals.

Earlier this year, IUFC was successful in securing $192,471 in funding through Round 1 Minor Infrastructure Program, an initiative under the Queensland Government’s Activate! Queensland 2019 - 2029 strategy.

Tully Little Athletics break-up and awards presentation MARIA GIRGENTI

ON October 29, Tully Little Athletics celebrated a successful season with their break-up and awards presentation held at Tully State High School’s Multipurpose Hall.

These awards recognised the efforts and outstanding achievements of their athletes throughout the 2023 season.

The Club Champion Award is for the athlete who achieves the most attendance and Personal Best points throughout the season.

Award winners Overall Centre Champion Most Points: Billy Morris Senior Highest Achiever: Layla Morris Junior Highest Achiever: Charlie La Fauci Senior Most Improved: Mackenzie Law Junior Most Improved: Nylah Johnson Indiana Grimaz claimed the Encouragement Trophy, for her dedication, sportsmanship, great listening skills and respect for parents and officials.

Top 5 Overall Point Holders: Mackenzie Law, Nina Trickey, Emmett Frumento, Billy Morris and Nylah Johnson.

The Top 21 Point Holders received trophies.

Encouragement Award Runners up: Isabel Buck, Elsie Wright, Indiana Grimaz, Rhys Vipiana and Reef.

In September, at the LAQ Regionals hosted by Tableland Athletics Club at Tolga Reserve,

Billy Morris - TLA Overall Centre champion (Most Points).

Billy Morris, Blake, Mackenzie, Chase Frumento, Shaun Riley and Lachlan McKiernanNewman broke Tully Little Athletics Club records.

LAQ Regionals 2023 - Club record breakers Billy Morris: Under 9 - High Jump Blake Riley: Under 10 - Shot Put Mackenzie Law: Under 12 Discus Chase Frumento: Under 12 - 1,500m Walk and he also surpassed the old Shot Put record, but Shaun Riley is the new record holder Shaun Riley: Under 12 - Shot Put, Javelin and Discus

Lachlan McKiernan-Newman: Under 16 - Long Jump and Triple Jump Blake Riley, Shaun Riley and Chase Frumento broke LAQ Regional records at this year’s carnival.

LAQ Regionals 2023 - Record breakers Blake Riley: Under 10 - 1,100m Walk Shaun Riley: Under 12 - Discus, Javelin and Shot Put Chase Frumento: Under 12 1,500m Walk. Frumento also surpassed the old record for Shot Put, but Shaun Riley is the new record holder.

Under 16 - 700m Walk and 100m Hurdles Dean Giardina: Under 17 700m Walk, Javelin and 110m Hurdles Last month, Shaun Riley competed in the 10 - 12 years Track and Field National Championships held in Tasmania and returned home with a bronze medal in Discus.

Riley placed fifth in Shot Put. In October, Chase Frumento, Mackenzie Law, Layla Morris and Shaun Riley represented Peninsula at the Queensland All Schools Championships in Brisbane.

Riley returned home with a silver medal in Shot Put and a bronze in Discus.
