Reasons Some Students Choose to Live Off Campus Living off campus is desirable to most college or university students. However, not everyone has the means to live off campus. For some students it’s more ideal than for others. While, every student has their reasons for moving to off-campus housing, some reasons are more common amongst them. Below are a few of the most common reasons for moving off campus.

No Rules to Follow but Your Own On-campus living comes with numerous rules, including major noise ordinances, bans against or regulations on overnight guests, visitor sign-ins, curfews and more. However, the only rules you have to follow in your own apartment are those you create. Of course, you’ll need to maintain respectful noise levels, but there won’t be a curfew, you can have overnight guests or just guests as often as you like, cook at any time and so much more.

It’s Truly Your Space Dorm rooms are often shared and not very private. Living on campus can be a lot like living at home in your room. However, with a roommate you won’t have much privacy. And sharing an entire resident hall with other strangers can often be overwhelming. There may be loud residents or parties, long waits for the bathroom or grimy bathrooms, issues caused by sharing living space (i.e. sharing a bathroom, kitchen and other common areas), etc. Moreover, you won’t be able to fully decorate your room to your taste, and certain decorations may be banned. Not to mention, you won’t be able to cook and eat whenever you want. On the other hand, if you live off campus, you can do all these things and more. Plus, off campus student housing, like West Village Suites, offers large or flexible spaces with plenty of 24-hour amenities.

It Can be an Introduction to Adulthood Many students move off campus to gain adult experience, learn money management, become more responsible and to generally prepare themselves for adulthood. An apartment comes with its fair share of responsibilities, including: • • • • •

Paying bills Household shopping; i.e. shopping for groceries, household items, etc. Cooking and cleaning Setting ground rules and dividing responsibilities with roommates Creating a budget and organizing household expenses
