Calm after the storm

t was Vincent van Gogh who said, “There is peace even in the storm.” The tranquility of our front-page photo only hints at the recent king tides and storms that battered our waterfront, flooding Centennial Seawalk and destroying local parks. The pier at Dundarave still contains the remnants of logs and other ocean debris, a reminder of nature’s sometimes-destructive powers. The pier will remain closed to the public until district crews are able to repair the damage sustained during the storms. We are thankful for the district’s tireless efforts in restoring our waterfront, seawalls, beaches, parks and playgrounds. In this issue of the Beacon, we celebrate the resilience of nature and humanity, and the hope that spring brings. Photo: C. Stringer
