Visit Rochester introduces the ROC Ready Promise As Rochester and the Finger Lakes region continue to open safely, and smartly, Visit Rochester has introduced the ROC Ready Promise for Rochester businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry.

The ROC Ready Promise is a tool for Rochester-area tourism and hospitality businesses to communicate to their compliance with public health recommendations to keep employees, customers, and guests safe.

This visual tool is also a message to customers and guests that they will need to work to support health and safety measures at area businesses as well.

Businesses displaying the ROC Ready Promise are showing their customers and guests that the health and safety of their patrons a priority. Guests can feel comfortable knowing these businesses have agreed to: •Wash hands frequently and have hand sanitizer available; •Wear protective gear like face masks and gloves; •Follow social distancing practices within the establishment; •Implement “contactless” processes and payments wherever possible; •Require guests to wear masks and other PPE as necessary; •Follow CDC guidelines for cleaning and sanitation; •Conduct wellness screenings of employees; •Keep employees informed on COVID-19 in our community.

Tourism and hospitality businesses across the community are invited to download the ROC Ready Promise sign to display in their businesses. A digital version of the ROC Ready Promise is available to share on business’s social media pages and websites.

While the ROC Ready Promise signage is intended for and will be displayed in local businesses, it is just as important for customers and guests to be mindful of health and safety practices when they visit Rochester. That’s why Visit Rochester has included suggested health and safety practices for guests and customers as part of the ROC Ready Promise website.

“As we reopen Rochester safely, it is important for all of us – both local residents and visitors – to work together to take a few simple steps to help promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of one another,” said Don Jeffries, president and CEO, Visit Rochester. “The ROC Ready Promise represents a commitment from the tourism and hospitality industry to take the necessary precautions to provide a healthy experience. We look forward to safely welcoming visitors back to our community, and in turn, helping to recover our local tourism industry.”

While the ROC Ready Promise was designed with tourism and hospitality businesses in mind, any local business is welcome to download and display the signage signaling to their customers that the business is committed to providing a healthy and safe experience.

Baking to Back the Blue

by Tami Raco It began with Emilee Lemcke’s idea to make baked goods for local law enforcement officers and turned into a community-wide effort called Baking to Back the Blue. Emilee, of Hilton, felt passionate about showing local law enforcement officers appreciation and respect by bringing them baked goods.

Emilee put the idea out on Facebook, asking if anyone wanted to donate to help fund the baking project to show support to local law enforcement agencies. Very quickly, her idea grew to a community who also wanted to show their support.

Emilee’s friend Krysten Portal, owner of You’re Baking Me Hungry, offered to have the baking done at her professional bakery.

members with military backgrounds, and they came together to create Baking to Back the Blue.

Their Facebook group rapidly grew to more than 300 members.

Donations of specific store-bought bakery ingredients, gift cards, and monetary contributions came in from more than 60 people.

Donations were received from area residents wanting to show their appreciation to law enforcement, as well as to organizations and law enforcement families.

“I never thought it would be this big,” Emilee said.

Emilee contacted Thin Blue Line to order bracelets as a thank you gift for those who contributed to the effort. Once they heard what she was doing, they donated 100 bracelets to Baking to Back the Blue.

On Thursday, July 2, Emilee and Krysten, with the help of Emilee’s husband Craig, delivered 750 decorated cupcakes to the Rochester Police Department. The delivery was made to the Public Safety Building, and each precinct sent an officer over to pick up and deliver cupcakes to their staff. The remaining money collected was donated to the Locust Club on behalf of RPD. Emilee and Krysten plan to continue Baking to Back the Blue for the Monroe County Sheriff’s office as well as other local police agencies. “We had amazing feedback from the Rochester Police Department as well as from the community,” said Emilee.

Greece Chamber & CGI Produce Community Video Tour

The Greece Regional Chamber of Commerce and CGI Communications have produced a new online community video tour to promote the region. The Chamber partnered with CGI Communications earlier this year to create a series of professionally produced online videos highlighting all our community has to offer its residents, visitors, and businesses. Pandemic Pounds: How to get off the unwanted weight gain

This winter as many people were working on their new year goals of getting to the gym and eating better the world came to a halt with the Covid pandemic hitting the USA and our communities. Gyms closed, adjusting to working from home (near the refrigerator), and extreme limitations on going out of the home and getting out of sweatpants created the perfect storm to gain the “quarantine 15.” Alcohol and food consumption went up, and activity went down as weeks turned to months and our waistlines began to grow. Research has shown that 76% of Americans have gained weight since the pandemic. Despite gyms still not being open, you can start to chip away at the unwanted weight gain.

We now realize one of the biggest factors in Covid complications is obesity related comorbidities. Now more than ever maintaining a healthy body composition is critical. So how can we do that with gyms and some fitness recreation still being closed?

Here are some tips.

•Summer is the best time to eat local fresh fruits and vegetables. Shop your local farm markets and stands to get the healthiest and tastiest produce possible. These foods are nutritious, help your immune system, as well as are low calorie and great for weight management.

•Consume good quality protein. Strive to consume high quality protein foods in three meals per day. Free range chicken, eggs, grass fed beef, wild salmon, tofu, beans and organic dairy are good protein sources. Typically, these proteins are more expensive, but a little bit goes a long way. A small serving of a highquality protein is better than a larger quantity of commercially farmed protein.

•Avoid processed carbs such as foods with high levels of sugar, high fructose corn syrup and white flour. Instead limit processed carbs to choices that are higher in fiber and made with seeds and sprouts.

•Move! Despite gyms being closed, we can at least feel thankful that it’s during our good weather seasons. Getting outdoors for a walk, bike ride, jog or even a swim can do wonders to your mental and physical health. The added benefit is the incredible affects of the Vitamin D absorption we get from the sun. Use sunscreen if you will be out for an extended period but try to get unfiltered natural sunlight for at least 20 minutes a day for optimum absorption of this incredibly important immune system boosting vitamin. Try to get three outdoor workouts or activity in per week.

Getting healthier is a lifestyle. Not a diet or quick fix. A natural byproduct of living a healthier life is having a healthy body weight. Something we learned in this pandemic is more important than ever. Make small changes each week. Try not to stress about it and avoid feeling guilt. There are enough outside circumstances that cause stress. Making changes that improve your health and how you feel should feel good. Change your narrative from needing to lose weight to having the opportunity to get healthier. And most importantly be kind to yourself!

We can only do this if you tell us your story. The stories you tell your friends or share on social media will be impossible to retrieve decades from now, but your written word and/or photographs can be cataloged and retrieved for future generations. •Greece Museum to Re-Open August 2 (We Hope!) With Phase Four beginning, museums are allowed to be open with certain restrictions. We need time to prepare and make decisions on the protocols we will be following, and prepare plans. With that in mind our tentative plan is to re-open the museum to the public on Sunday, August 2. There will be a limited number of guests at any one time and of course patrons will need to wear masks and we will have a “No Touch” policy. The Greece Town Council members and I have been making efforts to assist our community during this difficult time. We recently launched the GROW Greece Program. This program consists of a business grant of up to $5,000 for qualifying Greece businesses. Initially, the main goal is to put forth an effort to assist small businesses that are struggling, but as we rally past the ill effects of this Pandemic, this program will continue to exist with an overall purpose of assisting small business growth and attracting small businesses eager to set up shop and GROW their business in Greece.

GROW is an acronym for: G - Grant Support for Businesses R - Retain Jobs in Greece O - Opportunities Provided W - Working Together to Move Small Business Forward Mark your calendars for our Shredding Event this Fall! This free service for Greece residents will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the Greece Town Hall Campus. We anticipate that we will have a great deal of participation for our Fall event this year. Social Security unveils redesigned retirement benefits portal The Social Security Administration announced the first of several steps the agency is taking to improve the public’s experience on its website. The newly redesigned retirement benefits portal, at www.socialsecurity.gov/benefits/retirement, will help millions of people prepare for and apply for retirement.

“We are working hard to continue improving our website to provide people with clear, helpful information and easy access to our online services,” said Andrew Saul, Commissioner of Social Security. “Our new retirement portal is more user-friendly and easier to navigate, whether someone is ready to learn about, apply for, or manage their retirement benefits.”

The redesigned portal will make it easier for people to find and read about Social Security retirement benefits, with fewer pages and condensed, rewritten, and clearer information. The portal also is optimized for mobile devices so people can learn and do what they want from wherever they want, and the portal now includes the ability to subscribe to receive retirement information and updates.

OFC Creations Live In Person Summer Theatre Camps OFC Creations announced the 2020 line up for ROC Summer Theatre Experience would continue this summer with added precautions and safety measures for this July and August.

From July 6 through August 22, 2020, campers ages 4 to 18 will participate in a variation of 15 musical theater productions across three venues with 25 directors. Most camps run two weeks from 9 AM to 3 PM with options for before-care and after-care hours. Each camp concludes with performances open to family, friends, and the public. Camps will take place at various locations throughout Rochester including the Kodak Center, the Lyric Theatre, Seton School, and OFC’s brand-new theatre, The OFC Creations Theatre Center in Winton Place Plaza.

Greece Public Health Educator Wendy Cooper’s “Healthy Highway” Program Honored

by Barbara Burke Wendy Cooper taught physical education in the Greece Central School District for 30 years. During the last five years of her public school teaching career Cooper developed a conceptual health and fitness program for students using traffic metaphors to teach health and safety. She named the program the “Healthy Highway.”

Cooper found students easily connected with the ideas and themes of transportation which grew into thinking about the body as an automobile and how the fuel that is put into the body has a direct result on the performance. In 2014 Cooper officially launched the “Healthy Highway” program.

According to www.healthy-highway.com, “Healthy Highway’s programs help families get on the fast track to healthy choices. Healthy Highway uses traffic based concepts as a comparative for developing and practicing a healthy lifestyle for children and the entire family. The award-winning program’s “Rules of the Road” addresses healthy eating, the importance of exercise, self-esteem, positive thinking, the importance of listening to what your body is telling you, and much more. It’s all incorporated into a variety of activities that quickly becomes second nature.”

Several school districts around Rochester adopted the “Healthy Highway” program into their curriculum, it was also adopted by local community organizations as part of their health initiative.

In 2015 the Greece Police Department became involved with the Healthy Highway through the Greece Central School District. Officers visited elementary schools during lunch time, served lunch to students, ate lunch with students and even led them in exercise programs. A closer relationship between police and students and the adoption of healthier habits by students, school staff and police officers was the result.

Four years ago Cooper created the “Healthy Highway Family Edition” which places focus on the health of the entire family.

“Students were taking ideas home from school and sharing them with their families. I felt the program should be expanded to include the entire family with a focus on the family kitchen as a

learning lab,” Cooper said.

The Family Edition is based on Healthy Highway core concepts, with a focus on fueling the future, setting goals and objectives and developing individualized family plans. “The Family Edition gives parents ways to talk to their families, and how to make the kitchen the showcase room. There are educational tools with guidance on establishing a foundation for family health. The goal is to empower the entire family,” Cooper said.

The school edition of the “Healthy Highway” program is available to individual teachers to incorporate into their classrooms. “The program is designed to be used in an existing curriculum, it isn’t in addition to, it incorporates materials that can be worked into math, language and health programs,” Cooper said. She works closely with teachers including guidance and support with incorporating the program into curriculum.

This July, Wendy Cooper will be receiving an award from the National Association of County and City Health Officials in recognition of her “Healthy Highway” work with the Oswego County Health Department. The award is called “Promising Practice.” The recognition states, “The designation of your program as a Promising Practice means that it demonstrates exemplary and replicable qualities in response to a local public health need. Your program reflects a strong local health department role, collaboration, and innovation.”

Three years ago Oswego County Health Department officials contacted Cooper and requested a “Healthy Highway” training workshop for two of their elementary schools. Over the first year, data was collected and the results showed an increase in knowledge of healthy food and a change in behavior, students were significantly choosing and eating more healthy options.

Regarding family health during this pandemic Cooper’s advice is, “Watch what you eat, Watch what you read and Watch who and what you are spending your time with. Make sure it is high performance fuel that you are filling your engine up with.”

Cooper has a Healthy Highway Calendar called The Family Road Map. Each day of the month includes a healthful suggestion for the day. The calendar includes directions that instructs families on setting goals and making lists for the month. 2020 Erie Canalway Heritage Award of Excellence winners announced Erie Canal Heritage Park, at Port Byron, and Gateway Harbor of the Tonawandas, in North Tonawanda and Tonawanda, are the recipients of the 2020 Erie Canalway Heritage Award of Excellence. The Port of Newark received an Honorable Mention.

“We are proud to recognize these extraordinary places that have capitalized on their canal heritage to revitalize their waterfronts and communities,” said Bob Radliff, Executive Director of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. “Each project is unique in scope and concept, but they all make the Canalway Corridor a more vibrant place to live and visit. They serve as valuable models for what can be accomplished with thoughtful planning, sound investments, and collaboration among diverse stakeholders.”

The Heritage Award honors significant places of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and recognizes excellence in advancing the goals of the Erie Canalway Preservation and Management Plan. A five-person independent jury selected award recipients based on a written application and a virtual site interview with community leaders and stakeholders.

Erie Canal Heritage Park What was once an abandoned canal lock along the NYS Thruway is now a regional destination featuring a visitor center, re-

stored historical buildings, and the unearthed Lock 52. Years of perseverance, fundraising, and sweat equity provided by the Canal Society of New York State, working in partnership with the NYS Thruway Authority and others, are behind every facet of the park.

Visitors begin at the park’s visitor center, where displays of historic canal objects and an 1893 large-scale lock model orient them to the site. They are then invited to walk through the massive stone structure of Lock 52, built in 1853, and tour the restored 1894 Erie House Tavern & Hotel, mule barn, and blacksmith shop. Interpretive signs and volunteers share information and stories about the 19th-century waterway.

Located along the NYS Thruway between exits 40 and 41, the park is accessible from a dedicated eastbound Thruway exit, as well as from NY Route 31 in Port Byron. In 2019, patrons came from every state in the nation and 60 countries. The park’s unique location enables the Canal Society to reach a whole new audience. Travelers who might not otherwise take the time to stop for an off-route historic attraction, are introduced to New York’s canal heritage and to the many places where they can visit the canal today.

Gateway Harbor of the Tonawandas Decades of collaborative investment and waterfront revitalization have built Gateway Harbor of the Tonawandas into a vibrant public space and regional destination. By crossing county and community boundaries, Tonawanda and North Tonawanda created a single campus that unites north and south by water and enhances both communities.

Projects included: developing 1,000 feet of dockage and amenities for boaters, creating paddlesport access, converting an adjacent street into pedestrian-only green space with passive and active recreation, developing a network of trails, attracting mixed-use commercial development, designating a downtown historic district, and connecting the harbor with adjacent downtowns. The collaborative efforts between Tonawanda and North Tonawanda were funded in part by the NYS Department of State Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, the Buffalo Billion Smart Growth Community Fund, and NYS Canal Corporation Canalway Grant Program.

The harbor’s success has sparked reinvestment in long-abandoned commercial properties along the waterfront and attracted new businesses to both cities. Community events during the summer enliven the park and attract thousands of visitors each year. A wide assortment of stakeholders contributes time, talent, and expertise to make the port a community showpiece. The Port of Newark is a testament to sustained planning and investment to create a premier destination on the Erie Canal in the heart of the Village of Newark.

The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor has conferred the Erie Canalway Heritage Award of Excellence on exceptional sites since 2008.

Port of Newark The Village of Newark capitalized on its canal waterfront resources to create a vibrant port sustained by a strong community, recreation and arts, and private partnerships. The Port of Newark includes canalfront with 1,200 feet of floating docks, T. Spencer Knight Park, and a Welcome Center run by the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce. The Canalway Trail runs through the park, bringing cyclists, runners, and walkers to the village and waterfront.

New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations on Greece Town Hall Campus

On July 9, 2020, the new Electric Car Charging Stations on the Greece Town Hall Campus were unveiled. When you visit Greece Town Hall, you will see four new charging stations in the parking lot just outside the Meeting Rooms area prominently in the center of the Town Hall Campus Parking Lot located at 1 Vince Tofany Boulevard. These charging stations are open to the public for their use.

Signs have officially been installed, units are activated, and striping and road restoration has been completed for the charging station area. We are thankful to have obtained a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Charge Ready New York Program in the amount of $16,000 to help finance the cost of these stations.

Rochester Native Earns Prestigious Credential While Serving Overseas Lt. Cmdr. Steven Castle, a reserve officer under active-duty orders to U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet, was one of seven internationally to have attained the inaugural certification of Certified Oncology Administrator (COA) in April 2020. “The Association of Cancer Executives was founded in 1994 and serves as an international organization committed to the leadership development of oncology executives through continuing education and professional networking designed to promote improvement in patient care delivery,� said Brian Mandrier, executive director of ACE. The criteria for credentialing was rigorous and included: completion of 20 hours of formal continuing education, having at least five years of direct operational and financial leadership of a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated research center or Commission on Cancer accredited program, at least three years of direct leadership of three or more areas of cancer services, three professional letters of recommendation, three written case studies demonstrating comprehension, and an oral exam via personal interview.

Castle, a reserve officer assigned to CNE-CNA/C6F since April 2019, is serving as a country action officer in the N51 department, which covers Europe.

Since receiving the award, Castle has organized with the other six recipients to consider means of developing the credential for future applicants.

Pollinators key to the ecosystem

by Kristina Gabalski Pollinator Week 2020 was observed from June 22 through 28. According to the Pollinator Partnership, National Pollinator Week was established by Congress 13 years ago to help address the issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinator Week is a time to celebrate pollinators and learn about what we can do to help them. The event has grown into an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats, and beetles. Hopefully, these incredible creatures are welcome residents of your home garden and landscape ecosystems.

Pollinators are extremely important. Hundreds of plants around the world which are grown for food, beverages, fibers, spices, and medicines need to be pollinated by animals to produce goods upon which we all depend, according to pollinator. org. The list of food and beverages produced with the help of pollinators is extensive - fruits, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and almonds, to name just a few. Some plants depend on a single pollinator, while some pollinators depend on a single type of plant, meaning that if one disappears, so does the other.

Pollination happens when pollen grains are moved between two flowers of the same species or within a single flower. Pollination is accomplished either by wind or animals and results in fruits that surround seeds, allowing plants to reproduce. Take away pollinators, and we lose a large number of crops. Without the transfer of pollen, there would be no healthy and productive native and agricultural ecosystems.

The Pollinator Partnership says about 75 percent of all flowering plants rely on animal pollinators, and over 200,000 species of animals act as pollinators. About 1,000 of those are hummingbirds, bats, and small mammals. The rest are insects, including beetles, bees, ants, wasps, butterflies, and moths.

Pollinators are so important; they are often considered a keystone species, a critical part of the ecosystem which ensures both bountiful harvests and healthy plants.

Town of Greece announces their Free Annual Fall Shredding Event for Greece residents.

This free Shredding Event will be held Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the Greece Town Hall Campus. Services will be provided by Shred-Text. For more information about the company, please call 247-5250 or visit their website at www.shredtext.com.

Consider all your options when deciding on the best approach to managing a pest, the NYSDEC recommends. A pesticide may not be needed, or a less toxic pesticide may be adequate.

Plant for pollinators. Utilizing native plants is an excellent way to supply pollinators with nectar, pollen, and homes. Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum), Joe-Pye weed (Eupatorium purpurem), bee-balm (Monarda), butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa), milkweed (provides food for monarch butterfly larvae), goldenrod, and hardy asters are all attractive to pollinators and provide a nectar source throughout the growing season. A continuous succession of plants flowering from spring to fall is important. When deciding on non-native plants for your garden, old-fashioned and heirloom varieties typically have the fragrance and nectar/pollen that is sometimes lacking in modern varieties.

Remember, water is also important for pollinators. Refresh and refill shallow saucers daily that have been filled with coarse pine bark or stones and water. Your pollinator friends will thank you.

Lastly, here are a couple of fun facts provided by pollinator. org. A tiny fly (“midge”) no bigger than a pinhead is responsible for the world’s supply of chocolate, and one out of every three mouthfuls of food we eat is delivered by pollinators. If you want a healthy and productive garden, remember to take care of your pollinator friends. with unloading their vehicles throughout the duration of the event. We are excited to yet again offer this free service to Greece residents for the third consecutive year,” said Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich.

21 Stories For Scouts Returns For 11th Year On Friday, September 4th, the Seneca Waterways Council will once again host its annual 21 Stories for Scouts rappelling event off the 19th floor balcony of Kodak. Now in it’s 11th year, the event is returning to kick off the fall with one of the most unique and extreme thrills in all of Rochester – and offering a breath of fresh air from one of the highest spots in the City.

Hundreds of volunteers have pledged to raise $1,000 or more in exchange for the experience of rappelling one of downtown’s most iconic buildings. This year features the return of “Little Joe” Aiello, a 93 year old bartender from Country Club of Rochester and native of Rochester who has rappelled twice before and raised a combined $100,000 to support inner-city Scouting. Little Joe has set a personal goal of doubling that in 2020.

“I am happy to do anything I can to help youth benefit from the experiences and opportunities made possible through Scouting,” Aiello says.

“The young people we serve in the City of Rochester are among the most impacted by COVID-19, but for many, Scouting remained a constant in their lives over the last several months with virtual meetings, advancements, and campouts,” says Tony Vogl, Director of Development with the Seneca Waterways Council, and who is responsible for organizing the event. “We are so thrilled to have found a way to keep this event alive and make sure that we have the resources to continue our Scouting mission. I invite anyone to visit our website, set up a fundraising page and have this experience for themselves.”

The Seneca Waterways Council is pleased to recognize a new

corporate partner – Hoselton Auto Mall – who joined as a Presenting Sponsor. “Through their generosity and from support of other key partners, more of the dollars raised by our participants can go straight to underwriting our programs,” Vogl says.

Individuals have a goal of raising $1,100 and corporate teams are available with a collective goal of raising $5,500 for a team of six. In fact, many corporations participate in the event each year without any out-ofpocket expenses. Anyone can also donate toward sponsoring a young person for the City of Rochester to have this experience as well.

Originally scheduled for May 31st, this event was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions but organizers have developed a detailed plan exceed all health department guidelines and ensure a fun and safe experience for all participants.

Biosecurity for backyard poultry

by Nancy Glazier, Cornell Cooperative Extension’s NWNY Dairy, Livestock & Field Crops Team Recently there has been an outbreak of salmonella in 42 states, and as of June 23, 2020, 465 people have been infected. This is nearly twice the number of illnesses compared to last year’s outbreak. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.

All of these cases have been attributed to backyard poultry, with infections coming from baby chicks.

Biosecurity is a practice followed on farms to help ensure everyone stays healthy. It’s important for backyard flocks, too. A system of practices should include a comprehensive approach to cover many aspects of potential disease problems.

Safe handling is critical. Hopefully, one thing you’ve learned during the past few months is the importance of handwashing. That goes for handling chicks or chickens, too. Keep them out of the house, and don’t let young children handle them. And please don’t kiss your chickens.

Be aware when buying new birds. Poultry purchased and brought to the home or farm should be quarantined for 30 days prior to adding to an older flock. Quarantined birds need to be far enough away from the home group so they can’t touch beaks, share water or feed, or contact manure. Make sure the area is cleaned, disinfected, and dry before new birds are moved in. Try to source chicks from hatcheries or flocks that are NPIP certified – National Poultry Improvement Program. The voluntary program works with hatcheries to test for a number of diseases to reduce risks to those purchasing chicks.

Keep a separate pair of footwear for use in the henhouse. Your birds may look healthy, but they could have a disease that you don’t want to track into the house or somewhere else from their manure. If you have visitors, it’s best to keep them away from your birds.

Watch out for wildlife and pests. Wild birds can transmit or be carriers of diseases to poultry by contaminating feed or housing.

Flies can also carry infectious diseases, so do your best to keep populations at a minimum. Keep rodent populations under control. Keep tall grass cut or trimmed around the perimeter of the henhouse to deter them; they won’t want to risk being caught by predators.

Keep things clean to keep your flock happy and healthy. Always have feed and clean water available. Chickens are fun to raise and watch, just remember to do it safely. More information can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/backyardpoultry05-20/index.html.
