The Music Man

Greece musician George Hogan is recognizable by his black cowboy hat which is always present when he ventures out, even when he isn’t playing his music. He said, “I think I am the only one in Monroe County that wears a cowboy hat, and the one time I didn’t wear it everybody was asking where it is, so I guess it has become my trademark.”

Since the late 60s Hogan has been playing music all around Monroe County. He says he has always been musical and at ten years old started out on a plastic bazooka, a kazoo type of children’s instrument. “My mother was musical and that is where I get it from. She was from the Kendall area and played violin, harmonica and the accordion at gatherings all around the area. Music has always been a part of my life,” he says.

In 1980 Hogan was playing off and on at bars in Greece and one day he walked into The Circle Spot on Ridge Road and asked the manager if he needed any entertainment.

Hogan said, “The manager said he didn’t need music because the people that come into his bar all leave around 8 or 9PM. I told him if you give me a chance to play here I’ll leave when the people leave. It didn’t take long before I was playing there until 2AM. The people stayed and so did I. I ended up playing there for four years straight.”

Beginning in 2013 Hogan traveled back and forth to Nashville to play and record music for a couple of years.

Hogan plays around Monroe County with his band “George Hogan and His Band.” The band members change according to the needs and he can have anywhere from two to five local musicians playing with him at his performances. George Hogan and His Band play regularly at The Dutch Mill on Dewey and Stone Roads in Greece.

ways.” Hogan busks solo as a one man band and says he is the first busker in the Town of Greece. “I was in Toronto playing my guitar on the street about 16 or 17 years ago.

A young man came up to me and said, “You are busking.”

That was the first time I heard the term. I play as a one man band with guitar, harmonica, cymbals, drum and I sing like a bird,” Hogan said. He recently joined the Brockport Buskers and plays at events with them.

The Town of Greece is near and dear to Hogan’s heart. “I love the community and think the world of the Town and the people here. Everything in Greece from the people, the parks, the homes and the businesses are the greatest,” he says.

Hogan plays every Saturday morning at the Rochester Public Market at the Vegan Cafe. You can also catch him busking 3 to 5 days a week starting at 10AM in front of Starbucks on Ridge Road and Long Pond Road in Greece. He gets a great response from the people that stop and listen to his music and says he is “tickled pink” that he is the only one in the neighborhood that does such a thing as busking.

He also performs regularly at restaurants, service groups, for organizations and at the Greece Community and Senior Center.

Hogan has been self employed and making his living through music since 1972. He says, “I do what I do because it is my passion. When you have a passion and it is your career it is 95% passion and 5% work. And the secret is to discover what your passion is and go for it.”

Your diet and lifestyle have a direct impact on inflammation in your body. Foods in your diet can combat inflammation in the body or cause it. Chronic systemic inflammation in the body can lead to serious conditions such as heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease. Inflammation in the body is typically caused by a poor diet. A diet high in sugar and refined flours, processed foods and unhealthy fats (like Trans Fats) increase the body’s inflammation and joint pain. Lack of exercise, stress and allergens can also increase the bodies’ inflammatory levels. Here are some easy tips on how to make small changes that will help decrease your inflammation and discomfort.

Get an oil change: Swap your unhealthy fats (Trans Fats, Processed Fats) for healthy fats. Eat healthy fats from olive oil, nuts, avocados, seeds, wild caught salmon and other omega 3 food sources such as sardines, herring and mackerel.

Cut the sugar and refined flours: Reduce foods and beverages with added sugars. Avoid processed foods with refined flour. Consuming high amounts of sugar and processed foods and drinks cause a sudden spike in blood glucose levels. Following the spike a dramatic drop occurs which activates the systemic stress response. This then triggers a spike in the inflammatory response. When eating and drinking high sugar/high processed foods it directly contributes to ongoing inflammation and pain in the body.

Increase your plan based foods: Swap out processed foods for plant based meals that are preferably organic.

Vegetables and low sugar fruits are rich in powerful antiinflammatory plant chemicals called phytonutrients. Berries are some of the richest sources of anti-inflammatory nutrients. They contain antioxidants called anthocyanins.

These compounds have anti-inflammatory effects and may reduce your risk of disease. Cruciferous vegetables like continued on page 10

broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts are also very beneficial, not only are they extremely nutritious but research shows that eating a lot of cruciferous vegetables decreases the risk of heart disease and cancer, as well as offering anti-inflammatory properties. Broccoli for example is rich in sulforaphane, an antioxidant that fights inflammation.

Use spices: Mother Nature gave us some amazing flavors that also provides anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, basil and cardamom can help flavor your food and decrease inflammation.

Exercise: Regular exercise helps reduce inflammation in the body. Moderate exercise creates a cellular response in the body that suppresses inflammation naturally.

Relax and Rest More: You probably knew for yourself that it was necessary to rest and relax. Most health experts around the world recommend a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep. If you suffer from too much stress or too little sleep it can increase the hormone cortisol which is associated not only with weight gain but also inflammation. Meditation and yoga are also helpful in reducing cortisol and relaxing the vagus nerve.

Eating and living in a way to promote lower inflammation can help you live with less discomfort. It can also significantly reduce your risk of disease and help you achieve a healthy weight!

Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship Kick Off The Town of Greece announced the official kick off of the Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship. Jerry Helfer was a man of exceptional character and virtue who always exhibited kindness to anyone he encountered. Throughout his life, Jerry dedicated his time and talents to making our community a better place. One of Jerry’s first positions in public service was being a member of the Greece Youth Board. Additionally, Jerry served as Town Councilman from 1998 until 2009 and as Deputy Supervisor from January 2014 until his untimely passing in July of the same year.

The Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship provides the Greece community with the opportunity to recognize a student that regularly upholds exemplary moral values, devotes time and energy into helping serve the Greece community, and consistently displays outstanding leadership skills.

Journey Home Celebrates 20th Anniversary In May 1999 Hospice Nurse Tracey Jagla’s dream came true as she open the first comfort care home in Western Monroe county.

After Tracey lost her mom to ovarian cancer she was able to fully experience the significance of the opportunity for hospice patients to remain in a comfortable home setting. Tracey was able to help give her mom this type of care and quality of life in her final months. “Live until you die” was the thought that Tracey was left with after her Mom passed away.

At the time there was no comfort care homes on the west side for hospice patients. It took Tracey nearly six years for all of the preparation and planning to come together and continued on page 16

Aside from the on call nursing staff, the home has been serving the community now for nearly 20 years as a 100% volunteers comfort care home. In the last two decades Journey Home has provided care to over 500 individuals.

Celebrating 50 Years of Sharing

by Barbara Burke Two stalwart organizations in the Greece community are celebrating their 50th Anniversary this year. The Greece Historical Society and Greece Performing Arts Society both have been providing information, opportunities and entertainment to the community for 50 years.

The Greece Historical Society In 1969 the Greece Town Historian, Virginia Tomkiewicz, who was maintaining the historian’s office and records in her home, posted a notice in the library indicating that she was looking for individuals that would be interested in forming a historical society in Greece. That was the birth of the Greece Historical Society.

Since those early days the Greece Historical Society has grown in membership and in their relationship in the Greece community.

The Greece Historical Society is an all-volunteer, not-forprofit educational institution that received their charter from the New York State Board of Regents in 1975. Their mission is, “To discover, research and preserve the history of the Town of Greece and to share that history with its residents and the local community through public programs, publications, museum exhibits, and accessibility to its archives and artifacts.”

In the early years the society considered several different

locations to call home. In 1985 the Town of Greece offered the Greece Historical Society a Town owned house on English Road which they occupied for several years. When then Town Supervisor Don Riley realized an old house previously owned by former Greece Town Supervisor Gordon Howe was going to be demolished to make way for a new Wegmans, he arranged with Wegmans to donate the house to the Society and have it moved to a new location on land recently purchased by the Town of Greece. In 1988 the house was relocated and after 6,000 hours of work the Greece Historical Society opened at their new location.

Within a few years the Greece Historical Society received a grant from New York State and with a community fund raising campaign and private donations a new exhibit hall was opened, The Newcomb Hall.

In 1999 the former Greece Town Hall was demolished and arrangements were made to remove the cupola from the building and the Greece Historical Society incorporated it into their new Historical Society sign.

Services provided by the Greece Historical Society include Free Public Programs, A Museum Gift and Book Shop, Exhibits and Special Events, Programs for Libraries, Senior Residents and Organizations, Publications, Archival Resources, and a Monthly Newsletter. continued on page 19

Current Greece Historical Society President William Sauers says many things have changed over the past 50 years.

An active member of the society since 1998, and president since 2007, Sauers says, “When the Greece Historical Society first started out we were mainly an organization that dressed in old costumes and marched in parades and held events. Over the years we have established an archive, have held many exhibits in our museum exhibit space Newcomb Hall, and established the Tuesday Evening Lecture Series.”

The Greece Historical Society faces all the same challenges that other all volunteer organizations are facing.

“It is really a big effort to keep the place going. We have a great need for volunteers. We rely on our volunteers to visit classrooms for presentations, staff the gift shop and give tours of the museum on Sundays. Our volunteers also manage our website and work in marketing and property administration,” he says.

A big part of the Greece Historical Society outreach is their Tuesday Evening Lecture Series. “The Tuesday Night speakers really started to get attendance up at our programs. We typically hold them at the Greece Public Library.

We have also increased our presence and information sharing with our Facebook page. Social media has been important. We have over 850 followers which is really good for a small museum like ours,” Sauers says.

For their funding and support The Greece Historical Society relies on income from memberships, contributions from individuals, organizations and businesses, museum shop sales, grants and fundraising events. Their largest

fundraiser is coming up on June 17, 2019. The Strawberry and Dessert Tasting Festival draws an average of 500 people each year. This year will be their 46th Annual Strawberry and Dessert Tasting Festival. Held on the grounds of the museum the event is more of a community picnic. It features strawberry shortcake prepared by Wegmans as well as an array of dessert tastings from area restaurants.

There is also grilled food available and entertainment.

The Historical Society has recently taken on a college intern who is helping them with a computer inventory of all of their artifacts, something that will be available for use by the entire community.

Greece Performing Arts Society Greece Performing Arts Society, an all-volunteer organization, held their first organizational meeting on May 1, 1969. The meeting consisted of 16 people that met at Olympia High School with the idea of coming up with a way of organizing community residents and performing groups into one society and bringing a broad range of artistic activities to Greece.

Throughout 1969 and 1970 board members were elected, bylaws were adopted and plans were made for concerts. Ideas were discussed on how to bring new members into the society and how the society would be funded, all incorporation details were discussed and reviewed in great length.

During the 1971-1972 season member groups totaled 165 persons and 20 concerts were performed to an estimated audience of 5,400 people.

Floor Hockey Team of Chili participated in the Special Olympics New York Winter Games on Saturday, February 22 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, 123 E. Main Street, Rochester. The American Life of Joseph Biggio presented by Ed Maruggi, PhD. Joseph Biggio was the first Italian immigrant name in the Rochester area that appears in the U. S. Federal Census of 1850. He was born in 1820 and emigrated from Italy in 1845. He was ordained a Catholic priest in Buffalo, New York in 1849 and his first assignment was to become the first permanent pastor at “Church in the Woods,” later becoming Mother of Sorrows Church at the corner of Mt Read Blvd. and Latta Road in Greece.

Edward Albert Maruggi is a second-generation Italian American and a Professor Emeritus from Rochester of Technology. He is a diverse writer, having authored fourteen books including seven college level text books, six about Italians. He also writes a bi-monthly column for the Italian American newspaper.

OFC Creations Events

OFC Creations is wrapping up a packed 2018-2019 season and preparing for ROC Summer Theater Experience, the largest theater summer camp program in Upstate NY, this July and August.

Most recently, OFC Creations produced the six-performance sold out run of The Sound of Music at the Rochester Century Club. Under the direction of Judith Ranaletta, The Sound of Music was presented like never before as audience members moved room to room in the East Avenue mansion experiencing the show coming to life in every direction. The production sold out two months in advance and Ranaletta is preparing for the next theater experience at the Rochester Century Club.

For three weeks in April, OFC Creations will present the regional premiere of The Golden Girls Musical at the Lyric Theater.

The production stars an all-male cast as the iconic women characters from the beloved sitcom: Hunter Ekberg, Shawn Gray, Eric Vaughn Johnson, Hector Ortiz, Nicolas Samper, and Eric Schutt.

Concluding OFC’s 2018-2019 season will be the Rochester premiere of The Bodyguard: The Musical, based off the 1992 movie of the same name. The musical will run at the Lyric Theater Main Stage from May 3-12 featuring a musical soundtrack of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits performed by Sable Stewart (as Rachel Marron) and a cast of twenty adult actors. And from June 1-2, OFC will present the Rochester premiere of Frozen Jr at the Lyric Theater featuring 30 OFC youth students. The musical includes hit songs like, “Love is an Open Door,” “Summer,” and “Let it Go.” From July 8 to August 24, OFC Creations will present ROC Summer Theatre Experience, the largest theater summer camp program in Upstate New York. In seven weeks, directors and campers will produce fifteen full musical productions at three different locations: The Lyric Theater, The Kodak Center, and Seton Catholic School.

O’Rorke Memorial Society that was formed in 1990 with a mission to have a Memorial erected honoring the life, character and accomplishments of Col. Patrick O’Rorke. The Blue Star Mothers of America is a Congressionally-chartered, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization formed for the purpose of supporting America’s military, veterans, and their families, and to foster patriotism. Greece Food Shelf Volunteer Honored - Betty Griswald served in various capacities for over thirty years for the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf. ACT Rochester hosts Poverty Simulation Seminar ACT Rochester invited people in the community to participate in a poverty simulation facilitated by Coordinated Care Services, Inc. (CCSI) on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

The program was specially designed for Greater Rochester’s media and communications professionals. This highly interactive and powerful exercise was intended to provide participants an opportunity to explore the complex issues beyond the written word or sound bite, and to immerse themselves in an interactive experience to gain a deeper understanding of poverty in our community.

Karen Fien had the opportunity to participate in the simulation on behalf of Westside News. The experience really made her appreciate her family, her community and the opportunities she has been afforded. “The experience was overwhelming to me,” she said. “I can’t imagine if my family had ever lost their home and had to live in a shelter, in a car or on the streets, with nowhere to turn, no support system.”

What is a Poverty Simulation? The simulation is based on what a typical low-income family encounters in its attempt to survive from month to month. Each participant assumes the role of a family member as a way to better understand the day-to-day challenges faced by those living in poverty and how current biases, systems, policies, and practices create barriers. This experience provides additional lenses for sharing stories.

During the course of the simulation, Fien said her “family” was so focused on trying to get enough money to pay their bills, arranging transportation to various services that may or may not be open, and filling out endless paperwork, that they never found time to eat during the simulated month. A job loss, car break-down, home loss or addiction would be difficult for any family, but adding those stresses to a family already struggling with poverty makes the situation seem impossible. “We know that people are living like this. I believe we need to show compassion and kindness to all people, regardless of their circumstance,” Fien said.

with the same dedication to the concept of a society that provides opportunities for hundreds of community residents to grow as musicians and artists. The Greece Performing Arts Society currently consists of 400 performing and non-performing members incorporating all of the performing arts.

The Greece Performing Arts Society provides opportunities for community performers, in all aspects of the performing arts, to have a creative outlet to express their talents. The society consists of six groups including the Choral Society, Community Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Symphony Orchestra and Theatre Company.

Greece Performing Arts current Executive Board President is Eric Vaughn Johnson. Johnson, a critically-acclaimed and award-winning director, was appointed President in 2016. Johnson brought with him an expansive resume of work and experience in the performing arts as a director and performer.

Johnson’s approach to leading Greece Performing Arts Society is to bring the society into their next chapter with re-branding, uniting the six groups in performance and achievements, a focus on bringing in younger members and creating additional educational programs for the performers of all ages. Johnson says, “Each group within the organization has their own purpose. I want to bring in educational programs for the performers so they can just enjoy what they are doing, enjoy the music and performance for what it is. It is important to have a platform for those performers that are doing it for pure enjoyment and also have opportunities for those that want to take their performance careers to another level.”

Johnson’s goal is to have all of the six groups under the Greece Performing Arts Society work together and perform together since they are all under one umbrella as a society. He acknowledges that change is hard and it takes time. “Change is always hard. It is important to decide as an organization what is best for each of the groups in the membership, what are their needs, and how we can help them to better succeed in their goals. We also listen to our audiences and encourage feedback and we take their feedback seriously. That is an important role of any organization that serves the community,” Johnson says.

Over the years the audiences for the Greece Performance Arts Society concerts have grown. Upcoming Events include Saturday Night Fever: Hits of the 1970s. This is a GPAS 50th Anniversary Special on Saturday, April 27th at Greece Arcadia High School. This concert features the Greece Choral Society, Community Orchestra, Concert Band and Jazz Band. The Greece Choral Society will hold their Spring Concert on May 19th at St. Charles Church. “Tale As Old As Time” Annual Summer Soiree will be held on June 1st at Davinci’s of Greece. This is a very popular event and is always well attended by the community. Greece Concert Band has performances at various venues on June 2nd, June 9th, and June 23rd. Annual Holiday events include The Hoppin’ Holiday Bash Cabaret on November 8th; and Greece Concert Band performances on December 15 and December 17th.

In 2017 the Greece Performing Arts Society brought back their Young Artists Competition. In 2017 there were 10-15 kids that participated. In 2019 over 30 kids participated in the program. The young artists compete in vocal categories for scholarships and cash prizes. The Young Artists Competition will hold their recital on April 26th at Bruce Legacy Studios. The one night event will celebrate the award recipients from the 2019 Young Artists Competition. There will be additional performances by the ROC City Singers (under the direction of Judith Ranaletta) and other special guest performers.

Greece Performing Arts Society is also about giving back to the community that so generously supports them. They hold a canned food drive and a coat drive during their holiday concerts. “We try to keep in mind that the organization is less about us and keep the focus on the community and their needs,” Johnson says.

As to the future of Greece Performing Arts Society Johnson says, “ Our goal as an organization is to make sure that all six groups in our society are happy and to support them in the best way we can. We are also focused on sustainability, how we can grow our membership and keep our loyal members active and ultimately to keep Greece Performing Arts Society going for the next 50 years.”

Arcadia Wins Second Straight Class B Bowling Title The Greece Arcadia varsity boys bowling team won its second straight Class B Section V bowling title and 9th title overall with a very solid performance at the Section V bowling championships on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Gates Bowl.

Arcadia was led by several solid performances and was leading the whole tournament by 50 pins after the morning session. Arcadia wound up 3rd overall out of 24 teams.

The Titans were led by Owen King with a 672 and 603 series and a high game of 248, Tyler Snedden with a 643 series and a high game of 247, Michael Bennett with a 663

and 624 series and a high game of 234, Zach McDonald with a 222 game, Nick DelVecchio with a 215 game, and a terrific day by Will Neerbasch with a 704 and 606 series and a high game of 259.

Owen King qualified for the state composite team which traveled to Syracuse the first weekend in March for the state bowling championships and Coach Swingle was named to coach that team. What a great year as the seniors of Michael Bennett, Tyler Snedden, Owen King, and Zach McDonald will be missed and we wish them well.

Chamber to Hold 34th Annual Community Awards For the past 33 years, the Greece Regional Chamber of Commerce has recognized exceptional individuals and organizations whose business and volunteer activities demonstrate significant contributions to our community.

The Chamber’s 34th Annual Community Awards Committee has received community nominations for outstanding individuals, organizations and projects in the following categories: Business Person of the Year, First Responder of the Year, Girlie Goodwin Citizen of the Year, William E. Selke Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Professional of the Year, Arts & Culture Award Selected honorees will be announced shortly.

Make sure to mark your calendars for our annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27th. Also be on the lookout for details on our summer concert and food truck rodeo in June and, of course, the beloved Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration.

Our annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 27th. As in years past, the parade will proceed down Long Pond from Janes Road to the Greece Town Hall Campus. The parade will start at 12:00 noon and will be followed by a Remembrance Ceremony held at the Greece Town Hall Pavilion. Please join us as we honor all those who so selflessly gave their lives for our freedom.

This past month, the Greece Town Board Members and I hosted ribbon cutting ceremonies welcoming two new businesses to town. Congratulations to Gianny and Julio Vasquez on the opening Esquina Tropical. The new restaurant serves home-style Caribbean food. I would also like to congratulate District Manager Mike Abrams and General Manager Carolyn Sek on the opening of another Burger King location here in Greece. I am looking forward to meeting other entrepreneurs and hosting many more ribbon cuttings for new businesses in our vibrant, businessfriendly town this year.

Our first few classes filled up in a matter of just a couple days! In case you have not heard, the Town of Greece has been approved to offer Defensive Driving Courses at a reduced rate to our residents, which means that residents may now take Defensive Driving Courses at the Town

Other organizations that offer Defensive Driving Courses range from $24.99/student all the way to $44/student. I hope you will take advantage of this great service the town now offers! Safety is a top priority, and having well-trained drivers is beneficial to all residents. Greece Residents who are interested in attending Defensive Driving Courses may sign up via the Town of Greece website by visiting www.greeceny.gov, clicking the “Residents” tab on the upper right hand corner of the home page, selecting “Defensive Driving Course”, and following the link to submit the online registration form. Residents who wish to register in person must do so at the the Town of Greece Community Center counter. Class sizes are limited to the first 20 students who register, which means that registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. Please note that there are no refunds for these courses and that these courses are currently being offered to Greece residents only. Several courses will be scheduled throughout the year - please check the Town of Greece website for updated information on upcoming courses. Due to the 6-hour required length of the course, Defensive Driving Courses will be held in two separate session on weeknights (ex: 3 hours on Tuesday evening and 3 hours on Thursday evening of the same week).

Cellphones have changed the way we communicate as adults and teens. Nearly 80% of all teens age 13-17 now have their own smart phone and use it daily. With the widespread use of smartphones and wifi availability kids are spending nearly nine hours a day on their phones. Technology comes with risks. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, constant connectivity poses unique risks such as cyberbullying, sending and receiving sexually explicit messages, and unintentional sharing of their locations to the public with GPS location tags.

To help children and teens be safer and smarter while using their phones here are some tips from the NCMEC. • Establish rules for when they are allowed to use their cellphones, what websites they can visit and what apps they can download.

• Understand an app’s purpose before your child downloads it. Who are the users? What type of privacy settings are available?

• Remind your children that anything they send from their phones can be easily forwarded and shared.

• Talk to your child about the possible consequences of sending sexually explicit or provocative images or text messages.

• When shopping for a cellphone for your child, research the security settings that are available.

Have open discussion with your teen about cellphone use.

Here are some good talking points: What do you use your phone for the most? Can you show me some of your favorite apps? Do you know everyone you have as a contact in your phone and on different apps? Has anyone ever taken an embarrassing picture of you without your permission? Have you ever taken an embarrassing picture of someone else? What did you do with it? Have you ever talked with someone you first met online on your cellphone? What would you do if someone sent you a text or picture that was inappropriate? Do you know how to turn off GPS and turn on privacy settings for the different apps you use?

The New York State Ballet Stages Shakespeare The New York State Ballet Presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 2:00pm, and Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 2:00pm at The Hochstein School.

Follow along with the New York State Ballet as they travel through the forest and Fairyland in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Filled with fairies, fireflies, and flowers, this ballet tells the tale of Oberon, the King of the Fairies, and Titania, the Queen of the Fairies, along with a cast of characters that get swept along in their magical antics. Join Puck, a mischievous elf; Bottom, a poor lost traveler who quickly finds himself changed into something he does not recognize; Helena and Demetrius, Hermia and Lysander, two sets of lovers whose trip into the forest does not go as planned; and the Duke of Athens who only wants to marry his love Hippolyta the Queen of the Amazons.

4th Annual Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday April 13th, from 11AM 1PM Bethany Presbyterian Church, 3000 Dewey Avenue, Greece is hosting their Annual Easter Egg Hunt free to families in the community. The event is a collaboration of volunteer efforts between the Community and Global Mission committee and the New Member committee to provide a community-wide Easter event at no charge to families.

The Easter egg hunt is broken into family friendly age appropriate groups ranging from toddler to age 12. Festive music, a Bunny Hop dance, a special visit from the Easter Bunny, free digital pictures with the Easter Bunny, pizza lunch and soft drinks, crafts and decorate your own Easter cookie station are all provided.

Sue Brown, Church Commissioner and Elder has been coordinating this event for the past four years with the help of the committees and church member volunteers as a fun opportunity to give back to the community.
