Construction activities underway along Route 33 corridor in Bergen The New York State Department of Transportation has begun construction activities along the Route 33 corridor in the town of Bergen to resurface pavement in the area and enhance safety through the implementation of a new striping pattern.

Work will include the resurfacing of Route 33 between Route 237 and the Monroe County Line, a portion of Route 33A in the town of Riga near the I-490 interchange, and Route 19 between Route 33 and Route 262 in the village of Bergen.

As part of this construction, new leftturn lanes will be incorporated into the intersection of Route 19 and Route 33, with a two-way center turn lane just to the east. On Route 19, there will be one through lane in each direction to provide for new left-turn lanes.

Construction is expected to last approximately three weeks at this location, and two-way traffic will be maintained using single alternating lane closures.

Motorists may encounter delays during this time and are advised to seek an alternate route.

All construction activities at this location are weather dependent and subject to change.

Logan McGranaghan (right), a sophomore at the Hilton High School and a Hilton Boy Scout, recently started a GoFundMe with a goal of raising $1,000 for the Hilton Parma Emergency Food Shelf, vowing to shave his head if the goal was reached. Through many generous donations, Logan raised a total of $1,901. He presented a check to Tina Zebulske at the Hilton Parma Emergency Food Shelf on June 16. There was also a guest performance from the Rochester-based group, Womba Africa, a drumming group from Ghana that was featured on America’s Got Talent, where attendees danced and engaged with the musicians. Conversations between attendees were encouraged at the conclusion of the event to build community connections and create a space for dialogue and self-reflection.

Organizers expressed gratitude for the support received from Chief Mears, the Ogden Police Department, Steven Lysenko and administrators and teachers from Spencerport Central School District, and student leaders and volunteers from DASH 2 Change and Spencerport High School that made the event possible.

The organizers encouraged all attendees to continue to do their part to fight racism

and stand up for justice for all by advocating to local leaders and representatives and doing research and self reflection on how we, as a community, can all work to fight racism.

“We must take it upon ourselves to be armed with intelligence. We must take it upon ourselves to vote,” Campbell stated.

“We have to understand that it is a privilege to learn about racism while there are people like you and me that have had the disservice of experiencing it the entirety of our lives.

Although all of us being here should be the expectation, I want to thank you all for actively being a part of the solution.”

Montecalvo added, “Saying ‘I’m not racist,’ is not enough anymore. We must be actively anti-racist. Everyone can make a difference. Change starts with you.”

Black Lives Matter rally and march held in Hilton Hilton Black Lives Matter held an afternoon rally on Saturday, June 13, on behalf of equality and change. Attendees gathered at the Community Center and marched through the village. Participants shared poems, speeches, and stories of racism they had encountered. The stated goal of the event was to educate, bring unity, and dismantle fear in the Hilton community.

ENDORSED BY REPUBLICAN, CONSERVATIVE & INDEPENDENCE PARTIES Dear Neighbor, Hello, my name is Dan Wolf and I am running for Ogden Highway Superintendent. My hope was to walk our neighborhoods and meet as many of you in person as I could during the Republican primary which will be held on June 23rd. Unfortunately, the current pandemic and our social distancing rules have made that goal impossible.

In this new world, we must all think outside the box and as part of our ‘new world’, I have been tirelessly campaigning on social media. In fact, my Facebook page has been a wonderful source of connection with my friends and neighbors in our Town of Ogden.

Our Town has a proud and rich history, with many of our farms dating back to 1802 including such landmarks as the Erie Canal, the Town Pump and Adams Basin. I have been a proud resident of the Town of Ogden for 28 years where I raised three sons; Thomas, Dennis and Matthew and my daughter, Erica. I still reside here with my wife Diane and my son Matt.

For the past twenty-one years, I have worked for the Ogden Highway Department. Ogden is one of the hidden jewels of Monroe County and I am honored to be part of the team that has turned a small rural community into a highly sought after area to live in. In addition to my work with the Highway Department I have also founded and built my own company. ‘Westside Handyman,’ a repair and installation business working primarily with Page Appliances.

I am also a Lifetime Member of the Spencerport Fire Department, 1st Vice President of the Spencerport Exempts Club, the current Chairman of the Ogden Republican Committee and an elected Officer with Teamsters Local 118.

If elected to the Highway Superintendent position, these are several of the programs and goals I intend to accomplish: • I see opportunities to increase cash flow into our Town by working to improve our relationships with Monroe County and the surrounding towns. I have the contacts and experience to make those improvements a reality.

• I will draft a prudent and reasonable budget and then I will stick to it. This will include a long-term program for prudent future equipment purchases.

• I will maximize the potential of our Deputy Superintendent and Road Foremen positions so that they can best function in a manner that capitalizes on our resources within the Highway Department.

• I will work to update and establish preventive mantenance routines to the current sewer districts prior to expanding those districts.

• Implement improvements to the snow plowing routes to ensure more efficient snow removal and maintain the safety of our residents.

• I will implement department wide cross-training and succession plans for all positions in the Highway Department and this will maximize our resources without increasing costs.

• I will empower the Safety Coordinator to maintain and enforce the established safety programs and ordinances in our Town.

• I will work with our community and homeowners when obtaining temporary easements for drainage maintenance and improvements.

On June 23, 2020, you will be asked to make a choice for your Republican Highway Superintendent candidate. Canal Village Farmers’ Market opens with COVID-19 changes in place The Canal Village Farmers’ Market in Medina could not have had better weather for opening day with blue skies, sunshine, and moderate temperatures. Market volunteers and vendors were happy to be back for the summer season and welcomed their regular and new customers.

The market looks essentially the same, with the customary colorful canopies and vendor tables. However, COVID-19 has forced a few new protocols that differ from years past, and upon a closer look, some changes are evident.

One noticeable change concerns the hours of operation, which is not COVID related. The market now starts one hour later at 9 a.m. and closes one hour later at 2 p.m. “Over the past several years, we’ve studied our trends and customers have asked if the market could remain open later to allow better access,” said Miller. “We hope that these new hours make it possible for more people to come to the market.”

Other changes are very much COVID related. Customers will notice that the entire market area is cordoned off with two designated entrances. “The market has two identified entrances this year to greet customers, offer hand sanitizer, and explain our market guidelines,” said Gail Miller, market manager. “Being an open-air market makes it safer than being in an enclosed space. When everyone comes through the entrances, we are able to ensure that there are not too many people in the market at the same time so that maintaining social distancing requirements is easy.”

Market personnel and vendors emphasize that those who are sick should stay home.

Reminders of new protocols are stationed throughout the market.

One of CVFM’s new vendors, Hannah Pollard, sells items everyone needs – pie and masks.

Face masks are required to enter into the market. Vendors and staff are also required to wear face masks at all times, and customers are encouraged to move quickly around the market.

Miller reported that on opening day, patrons were very kind and responsible about following the new guidelines.

The vendors still have their products on display, allowing customers to see what is available and ask questions. Customers point to what they would like to purchase, and the vendor helps them. Only vendors and their staff are allowed to handle products. Customers may not touch produce or products until they are purchased.

Social distancing is also required with customers maintaining a six-foot distance from vendor stands, staff, and other customers. Reminders are positioned around the market.

Food demos are not allowed. Food items are available for purchase but must be treated as take-out and consumed off-premises.

“Farmers’ markets everywhere have worked hard over the years to encourage people to gather, linger, eat, and converse as a community. Unfortunately, we can’t do any of that right now, but we look forward to the day when we can again have a market as a gathering place. Until then, CVFM will abide by the state rules and guidelines for a safe environment.”

Miller said that products available each Saturday are listed every week on the market’s Facebook page – Canal Village Farmers Market. “As the season progresses, we will have our usual wide variety of offerings – vegetables and fruit, beef and pork products, pies and cookies, vegetable, herb, and flower plants, face masks, and each week a different local winery, meadery, or distillery.”

State guidelines initially prohibited some vendors like artists and crafters. However, Miller said that this has recently changed. “Current modifications to state guidelines now allow artists and crafters, so we will definitely be adding them back at the market starting this Saturday.”

According to Miller, for anyone who is uncomfortable coming into the market, has a mobility issue, or just needs to be in and out fast, there are new options available.

“An online pre-order platform will be available very soon,” Miller said. “This will enable a customer to select from vendor products offered online. The process will be very simple and user-friendly – just go to the online store, open an account, select products, and pay (cash only) when you pick up at the back of the market building on Saturday between 9:30 and 1:30.” The market’s Facebook page will announce further details soon.

“While most market transactions continue to use cash, several of our vendors are able to accept cashless transactions on-site,” said Miller. The market accepts Senior Coupons, WIC, SNAP, and Fresh Connect Checks, and will soon be able to offer Double Up Food Bucks to SNAP recipients. Timothy Bradford Grady November 10, 1949 – May 22, 2020 Tim Grady, a lifelong resident of the Rochester area and retired pipefitter at Eastman Kodak Company, passed peacefully May 22 with his “bride” of 50 years, Barbara (Snell) by his side.

He adored and was endlessly proud of sons Sean (Victoria) and Kevin (Danielle); daughter Heather (Jeffrey) Zielinski; and ten grandchildren Forrest, Alahna, Devon, Walden, Abigail, Rowan, Sheridan, Hayley, Maeve, and Garrett – who all learned how to fix anything under Grandpa’s watchful eye.

He is also survived by his beloved sister Sharon Kincaid, aunts Inez Buck and Elizabeth Fox, and brother-in-law David Snell. He will be dearly missed by cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, co-workers and friends.

While at E. K. Co. “Grady” was especially proud of mentoring new mechanics through the apprenticeship program; organizing for United Way; and competing on KPAA Softball (Jokers), Basketball (Celtics), and Soccer (Cosmic Comics) teams. He loved coaching youth hockey; renovating houses; photography; watching any live or televised sports; being a gourmet home cook; and listening to classic rock and roll and Broadway musicals. He lived by the motto: We’re not here for a long time, just a good time.

Tim was predeceased by his parents Myrtle (Davis) and William Henry Grady; brother-in-law Rick Kincaid (Go Bills!); and sister-in-law Kathleen Brower.

There will be a celebration of Tim’s life at a date to be announced following COVID-19 restrictions. In the meantime, please remember him as he was – a devoted patriarch, a fierce friend, and a big, strong man who was never, ever afraid to cry in joy or sadness.

Richard Vargo, candidate for Ogden Highway Superintendent My name is Richard Vargo.

I am a candidate for Ogden Highway Superintendent in the Republican Primary on June 23. My career with the Town Highway Department began in 1999. Prior to that, I worked for the Village of Spencerport DPW and I owned and operated my own small contracting business. I was hired at the Town as a Motor Equipment Operator, and since then have earned four promotions, most recently in August 2019 to my current position as Deputy Highway Superintendent. My appointment was unanimously approved by the Ogden Town Board. Superintendent Dave Widger retired in late August 2019 after serving the town for over 40 years. I have been running the highway department since his retirement.

I am a 53-year resident of the Town of Ogden and grew up in the Town Pump area. My wife, Karen, and I have been married for 17 years and have three children. We have strong ties to our community through school, youth sports, and our church, Trinity Emmanuel. I have volunteered as a coach for youth lacrosse and youth hockey, and am a lacrosse official for Section V. I have volunteered with our church on multiple disaster relief trips in New York and other states. I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and as an official for Shootout for Soldiers, lacrosse tournaments benefitting American Veterans. I am a Sons of American Legion member at Ferris Goodridge Post #330.

If elected, I will continue the excellent relationships we have with Monroe County and surrounding towns to generate additional revenue for the Town. I possess the work ethic and leadership skills that our residents deserve and am prepared to better serve our community as the Highway Superintendent.

Aylannie has had to face her classmates despite that many knew about unfortunate events in her family.

Teacher and nominator, Melanie Thomas said, “She is a strong individual and continues to persevere and takes care of bettering herself.�

Aylannie has faced her peers and actively engages in class dialogue and leads the class with her inner strength.

Aylannie attends school, getting stronger in her knowledge and skills and learns through her participation as a member of D.A.SH. (Declare Action to Shift Humanity) 2 Change. “Alyannie is a responsible young lady who not only takes care of her obligations in a timely manner, but maintains employment at Wegmans as well,� said Thomas.

A senior at Spencerport High School, Taylor Laubacher is an excellent student academically and a responsible, polite and dependable individual.

She has grown to be a strong, young woman despite not having the love and care of a mother.

Her French teacher and nominator, Berka Mou said, “It is hard to believe what Taylor has been able to accomplish despite her difficult family life and illness that lasted through her junior and senior years.�

Taylor excels academically and participates in many clubs and activities. In addition, she works outside of school to save for her college education.

According to his teacher and nominator Melissa Garofalo, “Sal is an example of what perseverance looks like.�

Garofalo shared in her nomination that Sal was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in his left hip bone which required surgery in New York City. Subsequent surgeries required a hip implant during his junior year.

Despite missing school, he returned to his rigorous courses, as well as his extra-curricular activities and was accepted at every college that he applied to. “To be faced with the challenge that he did, and to come out on the other side is such an incredible story, one that deserves recognition and admiration,� said Garofalo.

Sal is the son of John and Sandra Sack and big brother to Lili and Mary Sack.

A senior at ChurchvilleChili High School, Meghan, is a terrific young lady and fiercely dedicated to her studies.

During her junior year, Meghan was in a car accident that resulted in a concussion.

The high achieving student was unable to complete much coursework during her concussion protocol. Her senior year began much the same way as she has continued to be plagued by health issues and multiple surgeries and was able to make the highest honor roll for the first quarter, despite missing school.

Her school counselor, Marjorie Rudy, admires her resilience. “Despite her health struggles, Meghan has remained fiercely dedicated to her studies and to her goal of getting into college.�

Meghan is the daughter of Karen and Stephen Shepanski.

All are to be honored during an online presentation on June 24th.

Area school budget vote results Brockport Proposition 1, the district’s 2020-21 school budget of $84,197,910, passed with 2,290 yes votes to 907 no votes. Proposition 2, for the purchase of school buses not to exceed $1,133,000, was also passed 2,162 to 1,038.

David Howlett was elected to a five-year term on the Board of Education with 2,801 votes.

Byron-Bergen The district’s 2020-21 budget passed with 751 yes votes and 396 no votes. The proposition to purchase buses was approved 758 to 397. Tammy Menzie and Amy Phillips were elected to the Board of Education.

Churchville-Chili Proposition 1, the district’s 2020-21 budget of $88,467,407 was approved with a total of 2,394 yes votes to 906 no votes for a total of 3,300 votes. Proposition 2, which allows for the purchase of ten new school buses of various configurations at an estimated maximum cost of $1,210,000, was approved with 2,224 yes votes to 1,058 no votes for a total of 3,283 votes. Incumbent candidates Mike Iacucci, Amy Wilson, and Kristen Brumbaugh have been elected to the Board of Education, effective July 1, 2020. They received 2,717, 2,659 and 2,641 votes, respectively.

“The past few months have been challenging for our students, families, and community, especially those who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. I want to thank our Churchville-Chili community for their continued support for our students, staff and our educational, athletic, and extracurricular programs, especially in light of the reductions in state aid,” said Superintendent Lori Orologio.

Hilton Proposition 1, the district’s 2020-21 budget, passed with 2,973 yes votes and 1,094 no votes. Proposition 2, for the purchase of school buses, passed 2,818 to 1,249.

Incumbents Maryanne Chaffee and Brian O’Connor were re-elected to the Board of Education with 2,711 and 2,495 votes, respectively. Colleen Nowacki was unsuccessful in her bid, receiving 1,905 votes.

Holley Holley voters passed the budget with 976 yes votes and 342 no votes. Both propositions passed - one for the purchase of busses with 885 yes votes and 463 no votes; and the other to support the Holley Community Free Library with 1,035 yes votes and 311 no votes. Holley voters also elected two members to the Board of Education, each with three-year terms: Robin Silvis (883 votes) and Andrea Newman (856 votes).

Kendall Kendall voters passed the budget with 581 yes votes and 241 no votes. The Transportation Reserve Fund Usage proposition passed with 605 yes votes and 219 no votes.

Kendall voters also elected Bryan Hardenbrook (673 votes) to the Board of Education for a five-year term and Rachel Fisken (645 votes) for a three-year term.

Spencerport Proposition 1, the district’s 2020-21 budget of $84,539,080, passed with 2,449 in favor and 1,139 opposed. The three candidates elected to the Board of Education were David Gibbardo (1,571 votes), Kate Czarnecki (1,377 votes), and Lori Stone (1,245 votes).

The unsuccessful candidates received votes as follows: Christopher Ferrari (1,153), Karen Zyra (1,071), Michael Mayer (950), Denis Johnson Jr. (922), Randal Weaver (610), and Zachary Miller (390).

Superintendent Dan Milgate expressed his appreciation to Spencerport’s community, district staff, and Budget Focus Group.

Wheatland-Chili Proposition 1, the district’s 2020-2021 school budget of $20,411,470, passed with 341 yes votes and 133 no votes. Proposition 2 for school transportation purchases, up to $210,000, passed by a vote of 376 to 97.

Proposition 3 for school equipment purchases, up to $100,000, passed by a vote of 385 to 88. Shanna Fraser, Beth Nolan, and Courtney Panek were each elected to a three-year term on the Board of Education.

Leonard Bus Sales doubles annual donation to combat food insecurity Leonard Bus Sales, which has a facility in Bergen, will be doubling its donations to partner food banks, including Foodlink, as part of its annual support of the schoolbased BackPack nutrition program. Due to increased need with COVID-19 straining food banks across the state, Leonard Bus Sales contributed $11,000 to help more than 2,200 children statewide.

Established by Feeding America (feedingamerica.org), the national “BackPack” Program provides meals to over 450,000 children in need during the time they are not at school. The food is usually discreetly distributed at the end of the school day and

given to the child when they leave for the weekend or vacation.

“For more than fifty-years, Leonard Bus Sales has dedicated itself to providing safe school buses to protect children and families in New York state,” said Leonard Bus Sales President, Jon Leonard. “During these challenging times, we sought a way to continue serving children and families who are struggling more than ever. Sweden reopens recreational facilities and programs as recommended The Town of Sweden has begun to reopen its parks and recreational facilities as recommended in guidance from both New York State and Monroe County. The playgrounds and Splash Pad at Sweden Town Park, 4761 Redman Road, have reopened with reminders to practice social distancing.

Reservations at the Lodge will be honored within the guidance in place on the date of the reservation. For now that means at 50 percent capacity (50 persons in attendance), but that will likely change upwards in a few weeks. The Lodge has served a valuable governmental purpose during

the COVID-19 pandemic. It was used for the Board of Assessment Grievance Days in May and again for early and primary voting in June. It was proven as a facility simple to maintain social distancing and sanitation for these functions.

Sweden/Clarkson Recreation has begun to schedule programming, again with guidance from public health authorities.

by T.R. Hendrick Well, I must say this has been the strangest four months in my hundred years on the planet…give or take thirty-three years. There is so much spin of important information going on I don’t know who to believe. The news organizations all seem to be slated in one direction or the other and any two people can listen to the same politician speak and come away with a completely different opinion of that person and what they just heard. It’s a troubling state of affairs.

The only thing I can say that won’t be changed forever by these recent events is the fantastic fishing we have here in New York state. That will remain the same, New York’s bass season opened on Saturday, June 20. Here in New York it always starts on the third Saturday in June. We have some spectacular bass fishing water in upstate New York within a half a day’s drive in any direction. A bass angler could fish a different body of water every weekend for the whole summer and never come close to fishing all the excellent bass water we have here in upstate New York.

Lakes like Erie, any of the eleven Finger Lakes, Lake Champlain, Oneida Lake, not to mention my favorite…the St. Lawrence River, and the eastern half of Lake Ontario.

As a testimonial of how good they are… these waterways are favorite tournament stops for The Bassmaster Elite tournament trail. These are the best bass anglers in the world and could hold their tournaments anywhere in the country and always come to New York for at least one tournament.

And if you want to add the other bass fishing organizations like the FLW or the College Bass Tournaments, there is a tournament every weekend somewhere in the state.

For the last fifty years, I have spent the opener of the New York bass season fishing the Thousand Islands area, though truth be told, I missed the last two years, fishing Lake Erie. This year I will be back where I belong, fishing somewhere between Chaumont Bay and the St. Lawrence River and the eastern end of Lake Ontario that connects them. I’m not being secretive, I just don’t know where in the Golden Triangle I will end up. Much depends on the winds. Being in the northeast corner on Lake Ontario there always seems to be some wind blowing. That section of Lake Ontario is where the biggest smallmouth bass live but the lake is almost always rough there. Chaumont Bay and the St. Lawrence river are much more sheltered and there is always an island or two to fish behind, depending on the wind direction.

In the first half of my half-century fishing that region, there was plenty of bass, but their size was nowhere near the giants that are being caught there now. The practice of catch and release plus the fact that these current bass are feeding on the protein-filled round goby, has allowed that end of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River smallmouths to grow to record-breaking size.

In August of 2016, Patrick Hildenbrand landed a Godzilla of a smallmouth bass weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces while fishing in the St. Lawrence River at Cape Vincent, New York. The fish, which measured at 21.5 inches long and 20.75 round, tied the New York State smallmouth record set in 1995 by Andrew Kartesz on Lake Erie.

Hildenbrand says that he released the fish back into the river after taking its measurements, so she is still swimming and could be caught again.

Last year Bassmaster magazine released their rankings of the 100 best bass fisheries in the nation for 2019 and, New York’s St. Lawrence River has earned the prestigious top spot. Over the past seven years, the St. Lawrence River and the eastern end of Lake Ontario have been in the top 10 twice. But last year, New York’s amazing smallmouth fishery would not be denied as the No. 1 bass fishing destination in the country. The rankings identify the Top 10 lakes in the nation based on head-to-head comparisons.

Smallmouth bass are the main species in that area though there are plenty of largemouth as well. When fishing for smallies there, it’s always hard to beat live bait and a three inch minnow on a three-way rig is going to outproduce anything else you want to try. But if you prefer to use artificial baits, the “drop shot rig” is best bait going these days. That is a bait all the tournament anglers are using to win the most moola. You can watch all the TV fishing shows and read all the online or fishing magazines about new breakthrough lures but I want to know what the tournament anglers who are fishing for a living are using to catch bass. That’s what I want to use.

If you were to Google all the tournaments in the St. Lawrence River eastern end of Lake Ontario region over the last five years, you would find almost all have been won by anglers using a “drop shot rig” of some form or another. It is a simple set-up but if you don’t know what a drop shot rig is, rather than me explaining it badly, I suggest searching it on You Tube. You will find at least twenty videos from the best bass fishermen in the country showing you the easy rig.

Now get your bass moving … summer is flying already. But remember to spread out and pick your fishing partners wisely.

There is still a nasty monster out there waiting in the wings to swoop back in on those being too careless.

Not many people wake up early on a Sunday morning to see what Dennis Heidemann saw in his backyard on June 14 at 6:55 a.m. Heidemann, a resident of Holley, was in his kitchen looking out into his backyard when a huge shadow came over his house and yard. Heidemann went to a north window that looked over his backyard, only to see a giant hot air balloon landing. He couldn’t believe it and hoped the passengers were okay, and that nothing was wrong.

Heidemann approached the craft and asked if everyone was alright. The pilot, Rick Piendel of Pennsylvania, formerly of Hilton, assured him that everyone was fine; he had been taking a new employee, Jeff Bulmer and his wife Donna, of Medina, for a ride in his hot air balloon. Normally, Piendel would have someone from his ground crew check before landing on someone’s property, but the timing was off with the crew (his wife), and Heidemann’s backyard was near the pick-up area on Route 104.

Heidemann talked to the friendly group about the hot air balloon. They shared interesting stories and information about the company they worked for, Blaser Swisslube Inc., and Heidemann was able to take photos of the hot air balloon, the passengers, and the group breaking down the aircraft for pick up. It was definitely not a typical Sunday morning for Heidemann.

Rick Piendel said that Peter Blaser, president of the Swiss company Blaser Swisslube Inc., loved balloon festivals and noticed that companies had their names on the hot air balloons. He thought it was a great idea and wanted to promote his business in the same way. Blaser now owns over 40 balloons and has 35 pilots all over the world. Piendel manages the balloons in the United States. He builds, inspects, and maintains the balloons on the weekends, and works for the company during the week.

Piendel has flown hot air balloons in Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and throughout the United States. In his travels, he has acquired several favorites. Lake Ontario is one of Piendel’s favorite spots to fly over. “I love the views over Lake Ontario. Anything can happen; you could even end up in the lake!” St. George, Utah, is another beautiful spot. “Going over Mount Zion is spectacular,” he said, noting that he goes there every year. “Flying over Switzerland, the colors are beautiful, and the land is maintained like a well-manicured golf course - to perfection.” Since COVID19, Piendel hasn’t been flying much, and he misses it. He usually attends the Dansville Festival of Balloons, LTD, but it has not yet been determined if that festival will go on as scheduled over Labor Day weekend.

Jeff Bulmer was hired for a sales position in November and is the area manager for Blaser Swisslube Inc. This was his first time in a hot air balloon. Bulmer said, “I was helping get the balloon ready for takeoff, and Rick asked me to get into the basket. The next thing I know, we are sixty feet up. It was incredibly smooth; I didn’t feel a thing in takeoff. The whole ride was magical, and I can’t wait to fly again!”

Brockport Arts Festival canceled for 2020 The Brockport Arts FestiAnnu al val, which was scheduled to 6th 2 take place on August 8 and 9, 2020, has been canceled.

As co-chairs of the Brockport Arts Festival, we concluded that conducting a festival in Brockport would be inadvisable and impractical because of the health threat to participants, the community, and all individuals traveling to and from the event.

It is with great sadness that we made this decision. The festival brings artists and crafters from the region together with the tens of thousands of people from the surrounding area who come to enjoy the art, music, foods, and fellowship. Our festival is organized and run by volunteers, and its income is poured back into the community every year to meet the needs of area children. We’ve had our festival in Brockport for 25 years, and we look forward to coming back in 2021 to start another 25-year run.

Clifton FD cancels 2020 Parade and Carnival The Clifton Fire Department has made the difficult but logical decision to cancel our 2020 Parade and Carnival scheduled for August 7 and 8. Since 1935, this annual event has been important to our community and members.

This year we are celebrating our 85th year of service to our district and surrounding neighbors. However, during this pandemic our priority is the health and safety of our members and loyal supporters.

Our annual carnival is our largest fundraising event.

Therefore, we will feel the loss of this income from our annual budget. We are and will continue to look for other possible fundraising events. The Clifton Fire Department annual fund drive letter will be sent out to our fire district residents in the coming weeks. Police were dispatched to seven family troubles, two motor vehicle accidents, four harassment/fight/assaults, completed 142 special attentions that include, but are not limited to, house checks, business checks, bike patrol, etc., and conducted 27 traffic stops. NOW BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Brockport Fire District is hereby authorized to transfer from the Vehicle and Equipment Capital Reserve Fund, the amount not to exceed $ 495,000.00 from this reserve fund in order to purchase a new pumper fire fighting vehicle to replace Pumper 233 which is 27 years old and has outlived its capacity, The vehicle the Board desires to acquire is a 2019-2020 Pierce Saber Demo, 1500 GPM pump, 1000 tank, short length, and it is FURTHER RESOLVED, this resolution is subject to the June 15, 2020 resolution of the Brockport board of fire commissioners, to transfer $95,000 from the Brockport Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund into the Brockport Vehicle and Equipment Capital Reserve Fund taking effect in accordance with its terms, and it is FURTHER RESOLVED, this resolution was thereupon duly declared to have been adopted, and the expenditure is hereby authorized, subject to a permissive referendum, and shall not take effect until 30 days has elapsed after its adoption, or unless approved at a special election of the qualified voters of the Brockport Fire District after a proper petition calling for such special election is filed with the Secretary of the Brockport Fire District within the time permitted by law.

WHEREAS, pursuant to General Municipal Law §6-g, the Brockport Fire District, Towns of Sweden and Clarkson, County of Monroe, State of New York, did establish the Brockport Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund, a capital reserve fund, to finance all or part of the cost of acquisition of the construction, reconstruction, remodeling, refurbishment, acquisition or upgrading of existing fire district buildings or facilities, and WHEREAS, A board of fire commissioners may authorize the transfer to the credit of another capital reserve fund of such fire district, all or part of the unexpended balance remaining in a fund established under GML §6-g, for a specific capital improvement which capital improvement has not been completed, the authorization of such transfer shall be subject to a permissive referendum, and WHEREAS, the Brockport board of fire commissioners may authorize the transfer to the credit of the Brockport Vehicle and Equipment Capital Reserve Fund, part of the unexpended balance remaining in the Brockport Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund where a specific capital improvement has not been completed or needed by the fire district. The amount of $95,000 is not needed or necessary to be retained in the Brockport Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund at this time. Upon this transfer, the Fire District will have sufficient monies in the Brockport Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund for the Fire District to complete planned building and facility projects. Accordingly, the Brockport Fire District desires to transfer from the Brockport Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund monies to the Brockport Vehicle and Equipment Capital Reserve Fund to purchase a new fire-fighting vehicle, NOW BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Brockport Fire District is hereby authorized to transfer from the Building and Facilities Capital Reserve Fund the amount of $95,000.00 into the Brockport Vehicle and Equipment Capital Reserve Fund to be used for the purchase of a new pumper fire fighting vehicle.
