sports & recreation Hilton has strong showing at swimming sectionals The 2021 boys swimming Section V Class A championships saw a hungry Hilton Cadets team show up and put forth an outstanding performance. With 12 swimmers and one diver, Hilton delivered five first-place finishes and state qualifying times in six events. Hilton’s times in both the 200 free relay and 400 free relay were the fastest, not only in Section V but in the entire state of New York. The whole team showed phenomenal effort and competitiveness, with personal best times set in nearly every race. Head coach Jeff Sadowski expended as much energy as his swimmers with his frantic pacing, cheering, and motivating.

The first-place finishes were: 200 Individual Medley - Jared Enser (1:57.10); 50 Free - Justin Enser (21.34); 100 Fly - Jared Enser (51.83); 200 Free Relay - Enser, Morreale, Runyon, Enser (126.92); 400 Free Relay - Enser, Morreale, Runyon, Enser (3:12.59). Both relays also set new varsity records.

With many other great swims and times by all the Cadets, the team was able to move up six spots from last year and place a strong third overall. Senior Jared Enser received the prestigious Swimmer of the Meet Award, and fellow senior Jaden Rosario took home the Monroe County Sportsmanship Award.

To top off his team’s great performance this Sportsmanship Award recipient year, Coach Sadowski reJaden Rosario. ceived the Coach of the Meet Award.

After Spending the 2020 season on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, Jake Welch of Spencerport will be returning to baseball this season. Welch, a pitcher for the York Revolution of the Atlantic League, recently signed his 2021 contract and will be returning to the Atlantic League AAA/AA team as early as the first week of May. Welch is in his fifth season of Independent Professional Baseball. A graduate of Spencerport High School and Notre Dame College, Welch will be part of the starting rotation. because it is a small university in a large city with a degree path in criminology and psychology. She also formed a positive connection with their women’s soccer coach, Betsy Warren, whom Brumsted sees as a positive role model.

“My favorite memory is making it to the Section V finals this past season,” said Brumsted. “As a team, we were young and inexperienced, but we went all the way to the finals. As a captain I did my best to help be a leader, coach on the field, and be a positive role model for the younger players on our roster. I’m so proud of our team.”

Goff played four years of varsity soccer with Byron-Bergen where she is a scholarathlete and was named a Genesee League All-Star her senior year. Goff chose Monroe Community College because of the good criminal justice program and out of her desire to remain closer to home. She is also excited to benefit from joining a great soccer team.

“I would like to thank Coach Hill for coaching me the last four years and for helping me improve as a player,” said Goff.

“I would also like to thank my team for making my senior season one I will never forget.”

Byron-Bergen seniors Bianca Brumsted and Eden Goff are taking their commitment to soccer to the next level by signing letters of intent to play the collegiate game.

Brumsted will attend Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she plans to study Criminology and Forensic Psychology. Goff will attend Monroe Community College in Rochester, where she plans to study Criminal Justice.

“On the field, Bianca is known for her high soccer I.Q. and her fantastic skill level. However, what stands out the most to me is her ability to lead her teammates,” said Byron-Bergen Athletic Director Rich Hannan. “As for Eden, if there is one word to describe her on the field, it’s tenacious.

She can always be counted on to perform at her best and she brings out the best in her teammates as well. I wish them both the very best.”

Brumsted has played premier soccer in Rochester for Empire United for six years.

She also played two years of junior varsity and two years of varsity soccer at ByronBergen. While playing for Byron-Bergen, she was captain her senior year, was a two-time Genesee League All-Star, and was named to the GLOW Super-12 first team. Brumsted chose Chatham University
