Hilton Teachers Association recognizes all members as Teachers of the Year The Hilton Central Schools Teachers Association (HCSTA) 2020 Teacher of the Year Award was presented at the annual staff convocation held virtually on September 8. This year, all HCSTA 2019-20 members and retirees are being recognized for their accolades and perseverance during distance learning.
“The honorees this year possess those attributes of compassion, creativity, flexibility, resourcefulness, tenacity and also that of being a trusted support to parents and students,” said Debbie Montrallo, Teacher of the Year chairperson. “In these unprecedented times, our candidates wear many hats, that of an educator, a confidant, a coach, a counselor, and a friend.”
The Teacher of the Year Committee typically screens nominees and reviews letters of recommendation before selecting the recipient. This year, numerous testimonies overwhelmingly expressed how Hilton’s teachers were consistently accessible to students and parents, and went above and beyond in their duties. dents are welcome to come to Union Church, 14 North Main Street, Churchville, to pick up a box of nutritious food for their families. Drive into the church parking lot and follow the signs. Provided information

Members will be able to reserve a one-hour time slot between the hours of 6:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reservations must be made at 431-0090 at least 24 hours in advance (by Friday for a Monday appointment). Canal system update The New York State Canal Corporation issued an update as the canal navigation season winds down. All locks and lift bridges on the Canal system are now operating daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. This change went into effect on Thursday, September 17. The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14. All recreational and commercial vessel operators should plan their trips to ensure they exit the system by that time. Several canal maintenance projects were deferred earlier in the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The October 14 closure will allow Canal Corporation employees and contractors to begin working on the backlog of projects while the weather is still favorable. This will ensure projects are completed ahead of the 2021 season, which is currently scheduled to begin in May, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Canal users are encouraged to register to receive updates through the “Notice to Mariners” notification program at www.canals.ny.gov. Provided information
